You can have your body paint..and eat it too!

I must be honest, the minute my husband heard that I was selling - All Natural Chocolate Body Paint in my Etsy shop.....he was stunned. He had NO CLUE where the conversation about chocolate body paint should go so he just left it alone. When he heard that I actually sold one, he was floored. Could his wife REALLY list and sell Chocolate Body Paint with a straight face? Would his mother see my facebook post? The answers were yes and yes.

I KNOW that this is NOT my typical post or recipe. I am usually all about healthy and organic lifestyles, living frugally, and DIY.... but sometimes, even I stray into the bizarre! Okay, honestly, this isn't that bizarre. Chocolate body paint makes an amazing gift for newlyweds, for anniversaries, and even for Valentine's day. It is featured in stores all across the world so why not in my Etsy shop!

All joking aside, this is a REAL post and what I see as a real GAP in the all-natural and organic product lines! Think about it, If you are committed to living organic and green lifestyles, you really do have to do some DIY. Not everything has an organic option on the store shelves!

Feeling a sense of duty to my fellow vegans and clean eaters, I sat down and researched a few variations of recipes for Body Chocolate Paint. Some of the recipes that I found were more like butters and others had a long list of ingredients. Usually not even the chocolate in the product as real! If the label or ingredients listed chocolate "flavors" or the word "artificial" it was out and I moved forward to find a recipe that was easy to make and to safe to eat! I finally happened upon a recipe that was just right! Easy steps, simple and pure ingredients, and safe to eat (no chemicals, preservatives, or junk). The added bonus is that you can make a vegan version by just swapping the butter out for coconut oil.

This recipe makes about 1/2 cup.

For extra fun (like you need more fun)....there are things you can add in!

  • booze
  • hot peppers
  • peppermint
  • espresso

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons butter (use coconut oil for vegan option!)
  • 1/4 cup raw cocoa powder

Directions:

1) Put sugar, salt and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil then remove it from the heat
2) Stir in the butter and mix until incorporated (you may want to use a whisk)
3) Add remaining ingredients. Stir until glossy.
4) Pour into glass container.

I was able to make this in the microwave. It doesn't get any easier than that!

Storage:
I suggest storing any leftovers in the fridge as there are no preservatives. Simply give it a minute or so in the microwave before your next use - PLEASE remember to let it cool before using!

So...much to my husbands dismay, I am proud to supply this recipe to my friends in need and to sell this item in my Etsy shop. Remember when I said his mom saw my facebook post about this amazing body paint...she liked the post. I like to think that maybe she didn't really get what it and assumes it is just another recipe. Oh well, I am not ashamed. Vegans and green eaters need to have fun too!

Heck, I'm lucky if I can share it with my cat! (Not that I'm going there, mind you...it was just an unfortunate choice for a figure of speech. LOL!)

Actually, Heather, I've been studying flash fiction, and I got a whale of a story in mind for a possible fictitious hub...based on your product. It came to me as I was showering this morning, a good place to think about the item in question, and I started laughing hilariously. Only two foreseeable problems--HP might censor me, and, even worse, my readers might not believe that it was purely fictitious. So I still have some thinking to do. But you know me...roadside eBay items notwithstanding, I do have a quirky side!

An appended aloha,

~Joe

Thanks Joe! I can not describe in words the look on his face when he figured out what it was. CRACKED ME UP! I really thought Ebay was going to be HUGE for this item but not yet. My question is....are you sharing this recipe with the wife?!?

Hawaiian Odysseus from Southeast Washington state on October 09, 2013:

Oh, NOW I get it! LOL!

Awesome hub, Heather! And the cutest thing is that hubby didn't have a clue! Like (sigh!) yours truly...

Thanks for the fun and the courage and the moxie! Hope this product flies off your Etsy shelf. Lord knows America needs more fun these days!

Aloha, my friend!

Thanks for reading Rebeccamealey! Believe it or not....it is a very easy to make chocolate sauce for baking as well! I had never attempted to make chocolate sauce before but now that I can make a healthier version (i use a lot of agave and stevia) we are eating A LOT of chocolate around the house!!!

Rebecca Mealey from Northeastern Georgia, USA on October 08, 2013:

Hmm, well I love chocolate, so it can't be anything but awesome. Interesting, I have never heard of edible body paint, and not a lot about any body paint for that matter. Sounds cool! Thanks!
