We Never Imagined
Do Vacations Make A Good Present? Just Ask They'll Tell You
People don’t normally think of vacations as a present, but ask your children what they got for their birthday 3 years ago, and then where did they go on their last vacation. I promise they’ll remember more about the vacations than you ever dreamed, and have forgotten about those birthday presents we spent a fortune on only to have it replaced 6 months later for a newer version.
Now a little PMS, oops sorry, that’s short for pictures, memories, and souvenirs :), and I’ve made my point.
Think about the saying, “a picture says a thousand words” then just think of all the reading you don’t have to do by looking at the pictures or slide show. Look closely at the 30 year old Disney pictures you’ll be amazed at the difference.
Check out Splash Mountain before it was even finished and the castle.
OK Now Go Grab The Box, or Boxes
You know the box or boxes of all those old pictures you’ve been meaning to scan and put on a disc for the last 5-30 years. Hey, I just did it so don’t think your by yourself, and if your one of those organizational, everything has its place types, I wish I could just borrow that for about a month or two, (ok honestly I probably wouldn’t want to give it back)
Now take a look at the places you’ve been, and the friends and family you were with sharing those moments. Sometimes we forget about all the firsts we’ve seen or done. Like the first snow fall, the beach, a mountain, or the leaves changing (not until I was 26), or the many other wonders of the world that have brought us such joy This holds true even more when were watching the little ones faces light up when it’s their first trip to the parks, or seeing an animal in it’s natural habitat.
Then there are other occasions it’s just you and a friend because there was the call and the tone of devastation that needed to go away in more ways than one. Although it doesn’t heal the hurt or the pain, at least it gives the opportunity to think about something else even if it’s just for a little while. If it’s a family member there is no better time for that quality one on one when you can say the things you thought you’d never find the time or have the courage to say.
Do They Really Last A Lifetime? It's Kind of Like The Big Circle
Vacations really do last a lifetime you know, they’re kind of like the circle of life. My mom and dad took me, I took my son, the kids took the grand kids, then I took my dad (just a few months before he passed and those pictures will be cherished for generations to come) The grandchildren will take their children before to long, (and hopefully I’ll be here to go with them), and the circle will continue.
It doesn't matter if it's an overnight getaway or a trip across country, making memories makes a difference in our lives and theirs. They also are proven to extend our lives and reduce stress. That's a good enough reason for me right there
So the next time your shopping online for that birthday, graduation, valentine, mother/father's day or Xmas present, remember the PMS and how long it will last.
Oh yeah and don’t forget the camera!

Thanks Peggy I can't help but laugh when I look at the old Disney photos and realize how far they've come. I've had these pictures forever. Thanks again

Oh you are so right! Vacations are presents that really do last a lifetime (except in the case of Alzheimers, heaven forbid.) Great hub and nice things to remember.

Thanks I love Disney and Universal I've been so many times I lost count but when they made it snow I was definitely in awe.

Great post! You're right, I remember so much more about vacations in comparison to present. Plus, I've had the pleasure of visiting Disney World and it is truly magical! :)
