What to Expect at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Resort
Ko Olina is on the west side of the island of Oahu. The Marriott has a big presence at Ko Olina with the large property of the Ko Olina Vacation Club. There also is a Marriott in Waikiki. Expect your stay at the Vacation Club to be far from the bustle of Honolulu, and many times more relaxing. It is about 30 minutes to Honolulu from the Ko Olina resort area.
Also expect nights of colorful sunsets, quiet walks and music at the grill next to the shore walk. Here you have tropical flowers, fountains, wide stone-look walkways and a long open lobby that looks over pools, manicured lawns, and perfect palms. I have seen five Marriott clubs and this one is more tropical paradise, inside and out.

Ko Olina Marriott Vacation Club Resort
I have experienced the Waiohai Beach Club, Kauai, and the Maui Marriott at Ka'anapali, and this Marriott resort has more to offer for a hawaiian visit, even if the general atmosphere is quiet and low key.
First, every Tuesday is the Fia Fia Show. No need to go anywhere else for a tropical paradise show with fire, dance and music. It is very family oriented and High Chief Sielu Avea is funny and entertaining for both adults and children. We have only taken part in the free Monday preview. Chief Sielu Avea at right, high in a coconut palm.
Each evening there is musician entertainment at the Cafe in front of the lagoon.
Our last visit the lobby included an artisan's craft show one morning during the week. I heard from my relatives that the artisan show was still present in 2012.
The man made swimming lagoon directly in front of the resort has tropical fish, sea turtles and no waves to deal with. Snorkel equipment available for rent. There are three other lagoons to explore walking distance away. Only a few miles from the resort, in front of the power plant, is very good open ocean snorkeling that is accessible from the beach. We experienced that location from a catamaran trip, but enjoy on your own everyday of the week for the cost of a short 10 minute drive from your parking space.
Two restaurants on sight. Drink servers visible all day and evening, just bill to your villa.
Lush Tropical Plants
For comparison the grounds are not as spectacular as the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki, but the bustle is down at Ko Olina and visitors are more inclined to strike up a conversation. Staff is friendly, as well. You will not see shopping boutiques at the Marriott.
This spot is where the Fia Fia Show is hosted. The shot is from the lobby. In my observations this property is the showcase for Vacation Club Sales. The other properties in the system are not as pretty as far as decoration and landscaping. All the locations are very manicured and kept clean and neat, however. The Palm Beach Aruba Vacation Club, for instance, is a majority of machine sheared bushes, a turn off for me.
Grounds and Architecture Highlights of Marriott at KoOlina
Main Living Area of Your Villa
The furniture is not very comfortable and the fold out bed is even less comfortable. The regular beds are comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and nicely tiled. Plenty of closet space and washer and dryer.
The kitchen is open to the main living space with a marble counter, bar seating dividing the two areas. Everything is updated and looks nice. The halls to the villas are interesting and have tropical carpeting.
Balconies for each bedroom with table and chairs plus lounge for the bigger balcony.
Choice in villa prices by view: oceanfront, oceanview and mountainside in three towers. A fourth tower is planned in the future.

The Sunsets at Ko Olina are Spectacular Most Evenings
We have seen the green sea turtles in the lagoons at Ko Olina. It is wondrous to see them while snorkeling. This is the lagoon directly in front of the new Disney resort in Hawaii. All four man made lagoons are an easy stroll from the Marriott.
The wide shoreline walk the whole length of Ko Olina Resort. This is a plus. I noticed very soon that the walkway in Maui is only wide enough for two people. Every time my husband and I approached another couple coming in the opposite direction someone has to dodge. Very annoying.
Ko Olina's walks are very peaceful.
Did You Find This Helpful?
If you are interested in sightseeing this location is not in central Oahu, but even getting to popular beaches on northeast only takes about an hour. The whole island can be experienced from this locale.
10 minutes distance is Kapolei for everyday needs, food market, pharmacy, movie theater, Costco and fast food.
I hope this is of help in planning your family Hawaii vacations.
