GoToobs come in 3 sizes:
- 2 oz (the ones with the suction cups shown here)
- 3 oz (no suction cups)
- 1.25 oz size (no suction cups)
Why on earth would I pay this much for a travel container? When it's the last travel container you'll ever need.
I bought my first GoToob travel bottle from REI after several years of lusting after them. The silicone part is lovely and squishable; the feel of the bottle alone makes it worth the price because there's nothing else quite like it.
The flip cap snaps in place, has discrete, but handy content ID indicators (for soaps, lotions, etc), and has a cleverly designed no-drip valve on it; it will keep liquids and gels in place, even sans cap, unless the silicone part is squeezed. That means as long as you pack your bag right (ie place your toiletry bag along the harder edge of your suitcase rather than laying it flat on top of everything), the bottle won't leak during transport, even after being manhandled by airline employees and being exposed to the high pressure inherent to air travel. I've never had one of my 4 GoToobs explode in flight.
While all of this is quite lovely, the real cincher is that Humangear (the maker of GoToob) back their products with a lifetime warranty. I'll admit, I am skeptical of such things, but I have firsthand experience. Here's what happened:
You'll notice the 2 oz. GoToobs (shown in the photo on the above) have a suction cup on them. It was designed to stick to the smooth wall of a shower or mirror, it would seem, but the suction is not strong enough to withstand a full bottle for long. It's a design flaw because when the bottle falls, the cap can crack. It happened to me, and it has happened to dozens of other folks if you check the Amazon reviews.
Here's what those people don't know: GoToobs have a lifetime warranty. This means that no matter what happens to your GoToob, no matter whether you drop it, break the cap, have your dog use it as a chew toy, or run over it with your car, you can have the bottle or cap replaced free of charge.
I know this because I emailed them (at firstname.lastname@example.org) and explained my plight: 3 of my bottles had cracked caps because they dropped after the suction cups on the bottles failed; could they send me 3 replacement caps?
Within 12 hours I received an email response, and within 4 days, I received this bounty:
That's FIVE replacement caps, a brand new 2 oz GoToob, and a small GoTubb "for my trouble." After I received this package, I went up north to visit friends, and I could not shut up about these stupid toobs. I figured it was much more productive for me to write about my experience, so here we are!
Because they are a unique "travel luxury" item but still quite practical, I like to give Humangear travel containers as gifts (think graduation, stocking stuffers, wedding/"honeymoon" gifts, a gift for a co-worker, Father's Day/Mother's Day). If you do gift them, just be sure to tell whomever you're giving them to that they come with a lifetime warranty!
PS: The silicone is food grade, but silicone does not behave the same way plastic does. You can visit the Humangear website for a list of compatible materials for the "toobs."

I've seen them before but never realized they came with a lifetime guarantee. That definitely adds to the value.

I used to travel from Denver to Alabama many times and had several "explosions" in my makeup bag. This is truly a unique item that will aid in future travels.
