Travelogue to Rwanda: My Experience in the Kigali Region

The Kigali region of Rwanda is one of the most culturally diverse in the country, and its population is vibrant with both history and modernity. If you’re planning a trip to this part of the country, here are some suggestions on what to see, do, and eat while you’re there. You can read all about my experience there in my Kigali travelogue!

Arrived in Kigali

I arrived in Kigali, Rwanda on a hot day in August. The city was bustling with activity and the air was thick with humidity. I was met at the airport by my tour guide, Moses, who took me to my hotel in the city center. After settling into my room, I met up with Moses and we set out to explore the city.

The Grand Hotel

I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Hotel while in Rwanda and I must say, it was a true delight. The hotel staff were some of the most professional and hospitable people I have ever met, and the room was impeccably clean and comfortable. The food was also fantastic - I highly recommend the eggplant dish! Overall, my experience at the Grand Hotel was wonderful and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The Activity

I arrived in Kigali, Rwanda early morning. The sun was just peeking over the horizon, and the sky was ablaze with colors. After checking into my hotel, I set out to explore the city. I walked for hours, taking in the sights and sounds of this bustling African metropolis. From the bustling markets to the beautiful parks, there was so much to see and do in Kigali. I even had a chance to visit some of the local villages and meet some of the friendly residents. Overall, I had an amazing experience exploring this beautiful country and its hospitable people.

Rwanda is one of Africa’s most scenic countries, and it has a lot to offer. Whether you’re visiting for business or pleasure, there are so many activities to take part in. The rain forests, majestic mountains and lush valleys are perfect for hiking and exploring. You can also enjoy some amazing scenery on a safari tour of Rwanda’s national parks.

Visit Park

I had the opportunity to travel to Rwanda and explore the Kigali region. This area is known for its parks, and I was able to visit several of them. The first park I visited was Nyungwe Forest National Park. This park is home to many different species of animals, including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys. I was also able to see plenty of birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The second park I visited was Akagera National Park. This park is known for its wildlife, including lions, elephants, and rhinos. I was also able to see a variety of other animals, such as buffalo, antelope, and zebra.

I loved being able to visit parks while in Rwanda. It was a fun way to get up close and personal with nature. The only thing I would change about my experience is more time! There were several other parks that I didn’t have time to visit, so I wish I could have explored them as well. Hopefully, one day I’ll be able to return and see all of them again.

Lunch at a Local Restaurant

I had lunch at a local restaurant called Sese Seko today. The restaurant is named after former President Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire, and it's one of the most popular places to eat in town. The food was great, and I even got to try some traditional Rwandan dishes like ugali (a type of cornmeal pudding) and mutetela (a type of vegetable stew). After lunch, I walked around the city for a while and did some shopping at the local markets. I even bought some souvenirs for my family back home. Overall, it was a great day exploring the Kigali region!

Dinner at Etoile du Congo (Steak House)

I had dinner tonight at Etoile du Congo, a steak house in Kigali. The restaurant was dimly lit and very romantic. The waitstaff was attentive and the food was absolutely incredible. I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked to perfection, and it came with a delicious red wine sauce. I also had the chocolate mousse for dessert, which was rich and creamy. Overall, I had an amazing dining experience at Etoile du Congo and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kigali.

Tourist attraction

Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of Rwanda’s most popular tourist attractions, attracting visitors from all over the world with its beautiful scenery and rich wildlife. Home to more than 130 different species of bird, as well as gorillas, chimpanzees and leopards, Nyungwe is a fantastic place for wildlife enthusiasts to explore. The forest itself is also home to a number of medicinal plants used by local tribes, who inhabit parts of Nyungwe.

Parc National des Volcans is located in north-western Rwanda, and is one of Africa’s most important volcanoes. Home to three of Rwanda’s seven active volcanoes – Karisimbi, Bisoke and Gahinga – Parc National des Volcans is a fantastic place for volcano-lovers to explore. It also attracts climbers from all over the world, who want to test their skills on some of its 300km (186 miles) of volcanic rock walls.

Nyamirambo is an extremely popular tourist attraction and one of Kigali’s most vibrant suburbs. Home to a wide range of markets, shops and restaurants, Nyamirambo is a great place for visitors to explore traditional Rwandan culture. It also has a fantastic nightlife scene, with lots of trendy bars and nightclubs.

Don’t miss a trip to Kigali’s Nyamirambo Market, which is one of Rwanda’s most popular tourist attractions. Home to an amazing array of African crafts and textiles, as well as numerous restaurants and bars, Nyamirambo Market is a great place for visitors to meet local people. You can even learn how to make your own Rwanda drum at one of its workshops!
