Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island is an isle located at the northernmost part of Cebu, a perfect place for relaxation while enjoying at the white fine stunning beautiful beaches. It is considered as one of the famous tourist destinations in Cebu.

The first time I’ve visited the island was way back in 2018 together with my closest friends who were from Manila. We had our diy trip at that time considering that we are on a budget and first-time traveler. We met at the Cebu North Bus terminal at around four o’clock in the morning. Take the bus bound for Hagnaya Port and ride on a vessel to Sta. Fe Port.

After four years, I’ve went back to Bantayan Island on a tipid sulit trip with my partner. Since we own a single motorcycle, our budget was only for the gasoline, fare on the vessel/boat, entrance fees if there’s any and food. I also booked our accommodation earlier thru Airbnb.

This is actually not our first time for a long ride because we visit Daanbantayan last August 2022. You might be wondering if the two mentions above are the same. Daanbantayan is a municipality located at the northern tip of Cebu while Bantayan Island is an island located in the Visayan Sea where your need to take a boat in order to visit the place.

We woke up at four in the morning and started our trip by four forty-five in the morning. Our target was to arrive at our destination at eight am. We are coming from Mandaue going to Hagnaya Port in San Remigio. Along our way, we had our first stop at Danao, Cebu looking thru the sunset and had our breakfast at Jollibee Sands.

When we are already in Medellin, we decided to visit the Bamboo Forest. It is the newest tourist attraction around the area that is giving us the Korea and Japan vibes. This resembles the bamboo forest in Kyoto Japan. This will also give the visitors a solid Korean drama atmosphere. With an entrance fee of 30 pesos, you can spend the whole day taking pictures in this bamboo scenery while enjoying the fresh air that it also gives

After one hour of enjoyment, we decided to continue our ride to Hagnaya Port.
In Hagnaya Port, there are porters who will assist you in getting tickets. If you don’t want to fall in a long line, you just need to pay an additional small amount. But since we are on a budget, we decided to fall in line. It takes 30 minutes before we got our ticket.

What to visit in Bantayan Island?

1. The Ruins: Cliff Jumping Spot

Normally, when you hear about the ruins in the Philippines, you would think of our past history during the Spanish colonization in the country. But The Ruins in Bantayan Island is the remains of a German’s expat’s house which was destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. More than just a tourist spot covered with graffiti, it is also a perfect spot for cliff jumping during high tide.
