Tiklas Waterfalls, One Of The Beauty Spots Of Gingoog City Philippines

Thelma is a Filipina Expat living in Germany. She shares her Philippines life and travel experiences about her beautiful home country.

Tiklas Waterfalls

Tiklas Waterfalls is one of the beauty spots of Gingoog City, Philippines. It is in the Province of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. Mindanao is the second largest island in my home country and is situated in the southern part of the Philippines.

Having a picnic day at Tiklas Waterfalls should be planned ahead for there are many things to prepare as the drive to this place is around 2 hours from where my family lives.

Preparation For The Picnic

  1. Hire a big jeepney for a day to fit all the family members of 20 persons including small children.
  2. Shopping for the food to bring like meat, fish and charcoal for a barbecue. Cooked rice, bread, water to drink, fruits, chips, etc...
  3. Plates, knife, cutlery and a lighter to make fire.
  4. Clothes for swimming and handtowels.
  5. Money for paying the jeepney driver and for the entrance fee.
  6. Toilet paper
  7. Picnic Bags for carrying the food and the cutlerries

The Picnic at Tiklas Waterfalls

The day was bright and sunny when we drove to Tiklas Waterfalls for another family reunion as my sister and her family came home for a visit after 5 years of not coming home. On that day, one of my nieces had her 6th birthday so we had a double celebration. Our drive to Tiklas Waterfalls was so loud and funny as it was a rough road in going to Gingoog, for there was and still is a renovation on the highway all through our drive. We kept on laughing as we always got off from our seats due to the rough roads. We were also singing a birthday song for my niece. I think it was the happiest birthday celebration that she had.

It took us about 2 hours drive from where we live to Tiklas Waterfalls main entrance. From there, we had to walk 350 meters to the waterfalls. For me, it was a lovely walk. Strolling with my cameras in the middle of the forest. Right beside me the hills and on the left side the bananas, coconuts, wild herbs and flowers and the streams of the water that came from the waterfalls. The streams of water passed the huge and small rocks. Beautiful butterflies in different sizes and colours flew from plants to plants. I heard birds singing and chirping. As we came nearer, the sounds of the waterfalls became louder.

Before we reached the waterfalls, there was a cottage where we had to pay the entrance fees of 20 Pesos for adults and 10 Pesos for children up to 12 years of age. For the cottage, we paid 100 Peso.

Tiklas Falls Resort

Tiklas Waterfalls is awesome. It is bigger than Busay Waterfalls in Macalang. It is on the right side of Tiklas Falls Resort. The water falls just like a curtain hanging in front of it. It is surrounded by an amazing well preserved nature sponsored by an American couple.

After paying the entrance fees and for the cottage where we spent our reunion picnic, we crossed the bridge bringing with us the foods and other things we needed for our stay. The cottage we took was up the hill where we had the scenic view of Tiklas Waterfalls and it´s environment.

There were 2 swimming pools. One for the kids and the other for the adults. Two showers were on both sides of the swimming pools, where everyone took a shower before swimming. My small nieces and nephews did not wait for their parents to swim. They were far too excited to wait for their parents, who were busy organizing the food and drinks on the tables. My brothers were preparing the fire for the barbecue. We had marinated the meat and fish at home.

Anguswas with us, too. I put him on a leash to prevent him from peeing everywhere he likes. While waiting for our barbecue, some of us went swimming while I was busy taking photos and filming.

Happy Moments

We spent the whole day at Tiklas Falls Resort. It was an unforgetable reunion picnic with my big family. The food was delicious. The drinks were, well for the men in the family was just enough not to make them drunk. The children were happy and so were we adults in the family.

We arrived home at seven in the evening, tired and exhausted not because of our picnic but because of our long rough drive back home.

Good morning...This would be a great adventure. Hiring a jeepney and traveling along with a large group of family would be half the fun. And then to picnic surrounded by the falls and the serene surroundings would top it off. The sound of the falls and their power reminds us that nature is indeed awesome. Thank you for sharing. ps

It's therapeutic to visit a waterfall like this. Here in Camarines Sur, we also have a version of that at Mount Isarog (dead volcano).

I have to re-visit the place in order to document my travel.

What a great experience you have there, especially with your family and friends.

Thanks for sharing!
