The Jim Rodgers Hiking Trail at the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park Leander Texas

The Jim Rodgers Trail is about 1.8 miles. This trail is a little hard to find as it is located on the back side of the park. There are two entrances; one has a small gravel parking area the trail entrance is marked with a charming cedar post entrance. This entrance can be found across from the football field. The second entrance is located across from the Splash Pad play area, with no parking. You will have to park in the parking lot near one of the soccer fields and walk along the street to gain access (there is also a cedar post maker here).

Pros and Cons—Wear proper hiking, running, walking shoes as this trail is lined with cedar clippings. Take some water as there are no water stations on this trial. This trial is great for some quiet solitude, and for those who want to enjoy nature. You will find an array of beautiful Texas wildflowers like the Tuber Vervain, Texas Thistle, Prickly Pear Cactus, and the Indian Blanket just to name a few. For the bird watchers (Audubon enthusiast) you can find delight in seeing the Summer Tanager, Cedar Waxwing, Field Sparrows, and Western Scrub-Jay, Mockingbirds, Western Bluebirds and more.

I even stumbled upon a fawn sleeping in the tall grass, and when I snapped the photo she jumped up and whaled for her mother. What a great day!

There is also a running trail that encompasses the park, winding along the baseball and soccer fields, with gravel, tree shaded pathways. (See park map).

Friendly reminder: Please clean up after your pet. I did not see any pet waste stations - remember to bring the pet waste bags and water for your dogs.
