Visit Port Aransas
Port Aransas is located in the southern edge of Texas along the Gulf of Mexico.
People come from far and near to hang out on the beach all year long. The area often has visitors because of the many annual events taking place at different times of the year.
The busiest time of year of course if Spring Break and Summer because who doesn't want to be on the water during those scorching Texas days?
Once you're done lounging on the beach check out these fun activities.
Parasailing is available in Port Aransas but be advised you'll need to make a reservation in advance. Tours typically range from an hour to three depending on how much parasailing you want to do. I have to admit I was too afraid to get that high up in the air but it was safe enough that I allowed my teenage daredevils to do it.
Dolphin Encounters was one of my favorite things to do but that's because I am a huge fan of dolphins. Any chance I get to see them I will do it. Dolphin Encounters takes you out on a two story boat that allows you to look for dolphins from high up and from the bottom deck. The season will determine the likelihood of you catching a glimpse of them. When we were there last we were overjoyed to see a mama dolphin leading her baby around.
Fishing in Port Aransas
Pier Fishing is fun for the whole family. Grab a pole, some bait and a folding chair and head to the pier for a day of fishing.
Fishing Excursions differ from pier fishing because you are able to fish offshore and in the bay. Throw your line in the water and possibly hook a Speckled Trout, Black Drum, Silver Perch, and more.
Deep Sea Fishing. Go out on the water for hours on end to catch some of the Gulf's biggest fish. Tuna, Swordfish, Tiger Sharks, Bass and Red Snapper are just some of the game you'll hook.
Camping on the Beach
Camping on the Beach in Port Aransas does require a camping permit and you'll want to make sure you are there before the offices close to get one.
Keep in mind, as we had to learn the hard way; there are two different beach permits for the one long beach. There is a divide and what that means is one half is owned by the county while the other half is owned by the city. Both have their own permits.
Of course, during the day you aren't limited to the areas you can visit; this only applies if you will be staying overnight and determines where you can pitch your tent.
There are not assigned camping spots so that's another reason you'll want to get there early, especially if you are trying to camp near the water.
Showers and public bathrooms are found on the beach.
Horseback Riding on the Beach
Horseback Riding on the Beach is available right down the road from Port Aransas in Corpus Christi. There's something relaxing about taking a horseback ride at sunset where land meets the water.
Fly Kites or Build Sandcastles
Flying Kites. This isn't only for kids and there are even kite flying contests on the beach.
Build Sandcastles. If you are in the area during the sandcastle contests be sure to stop by because it is a great time seeing what some people have built with only their two hands, sand and a little water.
Spend the Day on the Casino Boat
The casino boat is a great (and inexpensive) way to spend the day on the water, about 9 miles off the coast. Free lunch, slot machines, and dolphins swimming by, it doesn't get any better than that!
Fun on the Water in Port Aransas
Jet Ski and Kayak Rentals are available to rent for more fun on the water.
Surfing. Yes, believe it or not Texas is known for some pretty great waves in the Gulf of Mexico. There are also training classes in case this is your first time!

Best Restaurants in Port Aransas
My family and I visit Port Aransas often and when we are there we are sure to visit these establishments each and every time. Here is a list of our favorite Port A restaurants.
Our favorite spot of course is the Chicago Style Pizza from Port Aransas Pizza which is located at 407 E. Ave G, Port Aransas, TX 78373. Of course pizza isn't the only thing on the menu. Give them a call for FREE delivery at 361-749-5226.
There is something for everyone on this scrumptious menu. Captain Kelly's Deep Sea Headquarters located at 440 W Cotter St Port Aransas, TX 78373 has a wide menu from seafood to hamburgers. Not only will you get great food but you'll have an awesome view eating from the deck that overlooks that water.
Moby Dicks is not only a restaurant, you'll also find a beach shop. Located at 517 South Alister St. Port Aransas, Texas 78373, this awesome eatery serves grilled delights like hawaiian style chicken breast; salads, steaks, and seafood plates. They are also open for breakfast! The best part of their menu to me? The turtle cheesecake :) Check out their menu.
Virginia's on the Bay is located 815 Trout Street Port Aransas, Texas 78373. They are best known for their mouth watering Texas seafood, they also serve steaks and chicken. Kids are always welcome and are privy to their own kid's menu! Here is the full menu.
The next time you are visiting the Gulf of Mexico via Texas and are in the Port Aransas area; be sure to stop by one of these places for some great food!
Take a Sunset Cruise in Port Aransas
At the end of the day and after a day full of family fun, take a relaxing Sunset Cruise on the Gulf. Take in the starry night sky as the waves beat gently against the boat.
Just relax, there's more to do tomorrow!
More Fun on the Beach
When travelers think of Texas they picture cowboys and tumbleweed not fishing or surfing the waves in the Gulf of Mexico.
Still, there are many more things to do in Texas, starting in Port Aransas.
Situated in the southern part of the Lone Star State lies a vacation or weekend getaway along the coast of the Gulf from Padre Island to Port Aransas to Corpus Christi.
Take in the sunset on the beach and build a fire to roast marshmallows for smores. Pitch a tent for primitive tent camping but don't forget to buy your permit. (You'll need one for parking and another for camping.)
Grab your fishing pole or take in the waves on your boogie board.
Need something fun to keep the young ones occupied?
1) Take along your own mason jars with lids and have the kiddos collect shells.
2) Fill the jar half full with beach sand, put in their hand picked shells and screw the lid on.
3) Now they have a memory that they made with their very own little hands. The pride shown on their face will brighten your day too!

What About You?
Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on May 20, 2018:
Thanks for telling us all about the many things that can be enjoyed if visiting Port Aransas, Texas. Where we live in Houston we are more likely to visit Galveston. As a child living in South Texas I often visited Padre Island. There are many fun places all along the Texas coastline.
