Woodland Park is centrally located in Lexington, Kentucky. When it comes to beating the boredom blues in Lexington, residents of all ages come to Woodland Park because of the large variety of recreational activities it has to offer. Located along East High Street between Clay Street and Kentucky Avenue, Woodland Park is located in a historic district close to local shopping opportunities.

The main focal point of Woodland Park that is open all year round is the skate park. This park is for skateboarders only. It features a bowl, rail, mini half pipe, pyramid, and much more. Many teens and young adults love to hang out here as they share their passion for skateboarding. Each year Cosmic, a local skateboarding shop, hosts Cosmic Invasion on June 21. This is a skateboarding competition that awards amazing prizes and has various vendors on hand. Many people enjoy meeting professional skateboarders and the free Monster energy drinks. There are also live bands at this event.

During the warm months of late spring and summer, the Woodland Aquatic Center opens up and becomes the main attraction of Woodland Park. It has three pool areas to choose from. There is a lap pool, a pool for the younger kids, and a swimming pool with spiral slide, large pirate boat, and four diving boards. Two of the diving boards are low dives, one diving board is a high dive, and there is another diving board just a little higher than the low dives but not as high as the high dive.

Admission to the pool is $4.00 for children under the age of 15 and only a dollar more for everyone else. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 11am to 8pm and Sunday from 1pm to 8pm. This is a no smoking pool. If you are planning to spend the day at the pool, you can also buy healthy food without having to leave the pool area. They have fruit, yogurt, salads, grilled chicken, bottled water, and much more. Prices are affordable and range from $0.75 to $3.00 per item.

Skateboarding and swimming aren't the only sports options available at Woodland Park. There are two tennis courts, a racquetball court, basketball court, and a baseball field. There are also a horseshoe area as well.

There is a good size playground to bring the kids to. The playground equipment is a made from a combination of plastic and wood. There are several swings including ones for toddlers and those who have special needs or are handicapped. There is also a green tunnel slide, monkey bars, a rock climbing wall, and seesaws. In addition to all this there is a separate play area designed for toddlers.

Many people enjoy coming to Woodland Park for picnics. There are several picnic tables throughout the park. There is also plenty of open grass area for more traditional blanket picnics. There is one pavilion perfect for birthday parties and a gazebo. Woodland Park is a pet friendly park and you will often see residents at the park with their dogs.

There are trash cans throughout Woodland Park and recycling is encouraged. In between the two tennis courts are drink vending machines. The skate park is located by the tennis courts and has public restrooms.

Whether you are out with friends or family, Woodland Park is a great place to enjoy the nice weather of Lexington, Kentucky. In fact, there are other events throughout the year that occur other than Cosmic Invasion. Some of these include the Woodland Art Fair, Shakespeare performances, and Ballet Under the Stars. There are also several small, local shops surrounding the park. However, keep in mind that parking is tight to say the least. They have a small parking lot that fills up quickly. Many people park along East High Street, Kentucky Avenue, or Clay Street. The best time of day is morning to early afternoon. Regardless, residents are never disappointed when they come to Woodland Park.
