The Enterprise Building: Something Old, Something New

The Enterprise Building (Formerly known as the Anderson Building)

The Story

The Enterprise Building is part of a time in San Bernardino when the downtown area was a thriving, fun, and exciting place to be for families, couples, and youth.

The malls, restaurants and cafes, boutiques, and various plaza’s and beautiful parks, along with the Historic district nestled in the downtown area, all bustled with the patronage of it’s citizens who enjoyed an array of activities. Much has changed over the years with the economic downturn over the past decade, and the loss of many businesses due to that downturn, that drove San Bernardino to bankruptcy.

Coupled with political scandals, and a mass shooting several years ago, and the rise of a homeless population of people taking refuge in the ever increasing abandoned building lots, and parks, along with a current global pandemic COVID-19, the citizens were unnerved to the point of heading to neighboring towns, and of course now mostly quarantined at home as all cities across America have become virtual ghost towns.

The people who staff The Enterprise Building have joined forces with others in the city that serve the downtown area, such as the San Bernardino Downtown Revitalization groups, and are harkening visitors and its citizens back to a renewed time when San Bernardino was fun for all to visit, to dine and to shop Once COVID-19 quarantine has passed.

There is a proposed plan to redevelop the Carousel Mall, which closed several years ago, and was once the “Jewel of the city’s central corridor”.

”San Bernardino is on it’s way back to being the vibrant city it once was” says Stacia Guillen, Event Coordinator and Office Manager at The Enterprise Building.

Guillen and The Enterprise Building owner, Alan Stanly, are busily refurbishing the building that was built by the Anderson family in 1927 and is one of three of the oldest landmark buildings in downtown, that also can boast for establishing San Bernardino’s 1st Brewery. The state of California recognizes the building architecturaly as a Landmark calling it a “Point of Interest”.

The building currently has independent businesses that occupy several of the office spaces, and they are also accepting applications for available offices in the building.

The building hosts family oriented community events, such as their Hall of Shadows: Escape Games, as part of their revitalization work. And they have a great venue that is available to rent out for receptions, parties, business conferences and the like called, The 320 Premiere Hall.

Across the street from the Carousel Mall and Enterprise Building is the landmark California Theater that hosts theater, orchestral concert series, and movie premieres, and it is located right next to The Regal Cinemas multi-plex movie theaters.

Much ado at The Enterprise Building and the surrounding venues with current and planned events to be harkened to. Whether you are looking for office space, or fun time out with the family, this COVID-19 crisis has given us all a pause to not take our lives for granted, nor beautiful downtown San Bernardino.

The Andreson Building is presently undergoing a renovation and renewal program into The Enterprise Building. The building will have 6 floors of rentable space and will be home to a shopping and food court center (E Street Plaza, at The Enterprise Building TBA). The offices and corridors and general décor of the 1930's era are being taken into consideration to keep the essence and soul of the building with a new art deco and modern style interior. While the area around the Enterprise Building has undergone a complete change, this fine old gentlemen office building will continue to play its original role as a quality business and office facility at the focal center of the community; a fitting monument to the Andreson family for their century of service to our community.

This sounds like a very worthwhile and interesting project. I hope that post COVID-19 it will be able to make progress.
