Vote for Your Favorite Scarecrows at the Fall Harvest Festival on October 18!

Get ready to celebrate fall as the town of Pendleton, SC comes alive with scarecrows. Not your ordinary garden variety, but “characters” that bring the town alive as businesses, churches, schools, children, organizations and individuals work hard to create a fun drive through town.

We have some very creative entries. Did you know that there will be a winner of the People’s Choice Awards, $25 and bragging rights. You can help decide on the winner by voting here online and/or at the festival on Saturday. Scarecrows were erected Oct. 10-13 just in time for Fall Festival on Oct. 18. They will stay in place until Nov. 15.

Contact Organizer Jo McConnell at 646-7400 if you have any questions.

Note: Due to heavy rain we were unable to take the photos on Tuesday so are a day late starting the voting. We had a number of entries who decided that they could not participate after all probably due to the rain all weekend throwing their schedules off. We are thrilled to have the entries below and appreciate all their hard work.

This is the third year for the Pendleton Scarecrow Contest

The first year we held the Scarecrow Contest, we were not sure what the response would be. We were thrilled that so many entered and the next year it was even a greater number.

Now, the entries in the contest do not reflect the additional scarecrows that can also be seen around town that chose not to enter the contest. Many of the scenes have more than one scarecrow so we estimated well over 100 scarecrows can be seen when you come to Pendleton, SC.

The table below shows how each year the number of entries increased so we were expecting it to do the same this year. We initially had 73 entries but due to various reasons some had to drop out or were not able to get their scarecrow ready in time for the contest. There are still scarecrows going up around town so be sure to come by for a visit soon.

Our town is unique, comfortable, sassy, lovable, unpretentious, artsy, historic, community minded, highly praised from the mountains to the ocean, with volumes of volunteers that get the projects done such as Barrett's Place, Trotter's Trail, the Fall Festival, the Scare Crows, the Spring Jubilee, the forthcoming dedication of the Veteran's Park Memorial on November 11, 2014, and why I am truly a proud and blessed citizen of Pendleton, SC. Come visit with us and before you depart I know you will feel why we love our town!
