14 Must-Try Cocktails Bars in Leicester Square

As an avid partygoer, I am always on the lookout for fun new games to play.

Leicester Square in London.

Leicester Square in London.

If you are in the mood for a drink or two while exploring London, then head to Leicester Square. This vibrant area is home to some of the best bars in the city, serving up delicious cocktails that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. From classic tiki bars to chic rooftop lounges, there is something for everyone in this lively square.

Here are what I consider some of the best cocktail bars in Leicester square:

Nightlife in London’s Leicester Square

1. The Alchemist

Address: St Martin’s Lane 63-66

What I really like about The Alchemist is that they take their mixology seriously - with over 30 unique cocktails on the menu (such as the "Bubblebath"), all of which appear to be expertly crafted. They also split out all the different cocktails into categories on the menu such as "No or Low Alcohol" and "Chemistry & Theatre - Light", so you can get some guidance if you're looking for a certain type of Cocktail.

Overall, The Alchemist can be a great way to start your night as it offers a wide range of creative cocktails. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and can make recommendations based on your preferences.

2. Blame Gloria

Address: 20 Bedford St

When I arrived it was crowded but for good reason. The drinks were creative and delicious. I ordered the "Karma Chameleon" that is actually 'colour changing' and it did not disappoint. It's frequently visited by 'hen and stag groups' but everyone is welcome and it's a great place to start your night.

If you're looking for a place to enjoy some cocktails with friends, or even if you're just looking for a place to have a drink before heading out for the night, Blame Gloria Cocktail Bar is the perfect spot. With its creative drinks and delicious food, you're sure to have a good time.

3. The Escapologist

Address: 35 Earlham St

If you are one for alternative decor like me, you're going to absolutely love The Escapologist - the underground cocktail bar itself is as 'unique' as its cocktails. My friend put it best when she said when you feel like you're part of a hidden club whio are up to no good.

The cocktails are good but the actual bar itself is probably the main attraction. If you're on the hunt for something totally different to what you would normally expect , you will definitely find it here. If you're not too adventurous, don't worry, they have more classic drinks on the menu too.

4. Old Compton Brasserie

Address: 36-38 Old Compton St

What I really love about the Old Compton Brasserie is a proper London ambiance. The minute you step in, you feel like you're properly in London. It's everything a London cocktail bar should be. Lively, fun and offers creative twists on traditional dishes.

The drinks menu is excellent (check it out in the "sources" section below). They have a fantastic selection of cocktails, mocktails, and alcohol-free drinks. I was also really impressed with how they accommodated gluten-free dietary requirements that my friend had at the time of frequenting. Well recommended!

5. Cafe Pacifico

Address: 5 Langley St

This is a super fun tiki bar that is perfect for those who enjoy tropical cocktails. When I was there the drinks are served in flaming ceramic mugs and the atmosphere can be probably best described as 'festive' to say the least.

6. The Ivy Market Grill

Address: 1a Henrietta St

This chic grill restaurant has a great selection of cocktails that are perfect for sipping on while enjoying the views of Covent Garden. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and can make recommendations based on your preferences.

7. Dirty Martini Covent Garden

Address: 11/12 Russell St

This is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a sophisticated cocktail bar. The bartenders are very skilled and use only the finest ingredients. There is also a menu of small plates if you are needing something to nibble on.

8. Eve Bar London

Address: 34-35 Southampton St

Although this is not a bar I have visited (at least that I can recall) it comes highly recommended by my friends for a more calming and relaxing atmosphere. The menu here is pretty extensive, and the drinks are apparently very good (the "Found in the Kitchen" is apparently a good one!). It can get quite busy so it could be worth considering booking ahead if you want to visit on a weekend.

10. The Rooftop

Address: 2 Spring Gardens

This is a great choice if you want to enjoy a few drinks with a view. The bar is on the rooftop of Trafalgar Hotel in the historic square. The cocktails are delicious and the staff are very friendly. There is also a menu of small plates.

11. Slug & Lettuce Leicester Square

Address: 5 Lisle St

I've not been to the Slug and Lettuce in Leicester Square, I have frequented the two ones situated in York. They are both a good place for those who aren't interested in anything too over the top. No crazy interior nor a particularly wild menu to boot.

What I like about Slug and Lettuce is that they do the 'basics' really well. So if you want a reliably good cocktail at a decent value, then I think the Slug and Lettuce here will more than serve you well.

12. Mr Foggs Society of Exploration

Address: 1A Bedford St

This is a great choice if you want to enjoy a few drinks in a more relaxed setting. The Society of Exploration is a speakeasy that comes with a life-size Victorian steam train, a map room and a library as well as the world’s first mechanical mixologist. The cocktails are delicious and the staff are very friendly. There is also a menu of small plates if you need something to eat.

13. Zebrano Bars

Address: 18 Greek Street

This bar is perfect for those who want to enjoy a few drinks in a more relaxed setting. The cocktails are delicious, the staff are very friendly and there are DJs playing music. There is also a menu of small plates if you get hungry.

14. Mrs Riot

Address: 10 Henrietta St

Mrs. Riot has a really funky vibe (the clue is in the name) with pops of colour everywhere your head turns, whether its the Purple chairs or Black and White Zig Zag flooring. This bar is perfect for those who want to enjoy a few drinks in a more relaxed setting. The cocktails are delicious (pretty reasonably priced as well) and the staff is very friendly and attentive. There is also a menu of small plates if you get hungry.

The Bottom Line

Whether you are looking for a sophisticated cocktail bar or a casual place to enjoy a few drinks, Leicester Square has something for everyone. There is an excellent selection of bars and restaurants to choose from, so you will find the perfect spot for your night out.
