What are the benefits of traveling? Should I really spend my money traveling the world alone? Why is holidaying so important for a family with children? Should I travel abroad to overcome the stagnancy in life? Why does traveling help to de-stress and relax? How can traveling help in finding life's direction and purpose? This posts finds the deep rooted answers to these questions about how traveling offers an unparalleled life experience. These points should be just the reasons, motivation and inspiration for you to book your tickets, pack your bags and fly away to your next overseas vacation.
1) Reduce stress and anxiety by traveling
Professionals face the stress of meeting deadlines and performance targets. Students face the stress of getting good grades and completing school projects. Parents face the stress of meeting mortgage payments and ballooning household expenses. Couples face stress of worrying about their partners flirting with others among many other common relationship problems. Friends face the stress of betrayals and peer pressure.
Apparently, stress and anxiety are known to be a part and parcel of modern life from which no one is exempt. Traveling helps to dilute this stress and helps you take your mind of all the sources of anxiety and worries about life's innumerable problems while you are away. You will feel ready to get back to your life and face challenges head on after a long trip.
2) Make friends jealous by posting traveling pictures on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest
Uploading cheeky selfies or pictures of partying is not the only way you can make your friends jealous on social networking sites. You can make all your friends on social media burn with extreme jealousy by posting pictures of your travels on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
Regular updates will create a buzz and your life will seem glamorously exciting to other people. It will become impossible for your friends to ignore you and your profile from their social media feeds. You can even keep your friends updated by tweeting while you travel.
3) Meet new people and make new friends while traveling alone
One of the reasons why people love traveling alone is because it is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. This is the reason why backpacking has become so popular and trendy.
You can make new friends even while traveling with a group but the thrill of meeting random people is amplified when you are alone.
4) Traveling offers exposure to new cultures and customs
Living a life without seeing the rest of the world is as good as living a life in a box. Traveling can give you a unique insight into what the rest of the world is all about. Exposing yourself to new cultures and customs is all about experiencing traditions, languages, rituals and folklore first hand.
Some people tend to argue that these things can be experienced even by watching documentaries or by looking at pictures online, but that is far from the truth. Just like it is impossible to recreate the sound of innumerable dialects of a single language in India, it is impossible to replicate the intricate ritual, taste and tradition of a Yum Cha meal outside China. Similarly, nothing comes close to the experience of driving along the French countryside and tasting some of the world's best wines.
5) Traveling adds romance into a relationship or marriage
Traveling undoubtedly adds a lot of romance and excitement into a relationship or marriage. Couples in a relationship can choose between feeling the thrill of romantic weekend getaways or long holidays to exotic destinations.
Even married couples can use traveling as a tool to give their mundane lives a romantic reboot. A wife can flirt with her husband by parading her bikini body on the beaches of a remote island. A husband can pamper his wife with exotic couple's massages and elaborate wine tasting sessions. The possibilities are endless.
6) Traveling gives the mundane routine of life a break
Most people choose to travel to new places because they want a break from what they are doing. Traveling can help you to recharge when life becomes hectic and boring because of a clockwork routine of going to university, reporting to your boss at work or picking up kids from school.
Everyone needs a break from life's routine whether they are stressed or not. Experiencing a different place and different people will stop your body from being corroded away by the mundane routine of your life.
7) Create amazing lifelong memories by traveling
Not even a billion dollars can replace the memories of experiencing an adrenaline rush while scuba diving in Cape Town or the culture shock of eating locusts in Thailand. No amount of material wealth can come close to the cute moment of hugging a koala in Australia or a bitter-sweet experience of getting fleeced at a Moroccan market.
There are some things in life that money can really never buy. One of them is love, and another is memories. Traveling adds heaps of lifelong diverse experiences and incidents to your life's memory bank. It will make you feel richer on a whole new level.
It may be very difficult for someone to understand the value of this benefit of traveling. But ask any sixty year old about his journeys when he was young and there will be a sparkle in his eyes as he shares some of his magical travel memories.
8) Add to the picture bank of your life
Apart from adding to your life's memories, traveling also helps increase your life's photo bank. These pictures will chart out your entire life story as the years pass by. This is why you will notice that a typical family album almost always contains pictures of family vacations.
Looking at pictures of your travels after many years will help you to revive the nostalgia and the exact feeling that you had while you were on your holiday.
9) Find direction and purpose in life
The concept of traveling for inner solace has gained wide acceptance. The reason why traveling can help in finding purpose in life is because it gives the traveler extra time to introspect, think and reflect.
Traveling will make you experience an environment or meet new people who can offer a fresh perspective to life. This may be just the food for thought that you needed to chart out the direction and purpose of your life.
10) Traveling heals emotional pain and agony
Many movies and novels have popularized the idea of traveling to heal emotional pain caused by various life events. Classic scenes of a girl going overseas to get over being cheated by a man or a guy packing his bags for a backpacking trip to get over the loss of a loved one have caused a spurt in impromptu traveling done to heal emotional wounds.
The reason behind this portrayal is simple. Traveling takes you physically away from the root of life's emotional turmoil. The feeling of being in a place far away soothes the mind and heals the soul.
11) Understand humanity and broaden your horizons by traveling
Traveling is not just about taking pictures of beautiful sunsets and trying out different cuisines. It is also about understanding humanity and the world in general.
From the way Nature distributes resources in various counties to understanding the real cause of anger and turmoil in sensitive areas of the world, traveling broadens your horizon. It helps you to have a better understanding of humanity and life in general.
12) Traveling overseas is a chance to have fun and let off some steam
Having fun and letting off some steam may become impossible in many people's life when they are overburdened with responsibilities. Traveling may be the only getaway which offers an opportunity to have some carefree fun. For example, traveling overseas to a party town may be just the break that a single mom deserves after working tirelessly to keep up with her job and the children.
Traveling overseas gives you the chance to get rid of your inhibitions and bring out your fun-loving personality without the fear of social repercussions. If you are travelling alone or with your trusty friends, this is your chance to embrace the naughty side of life before you return to the same old nine to five rat race.
13) Spend quality time with family by traveling together
One of the biggest benefits of traveling with family comes in the form of stronger family bonding. It is important to include short vacations and long holidays in your calendar because that may be the only way you can spend some quality time with your family.
In a typical family environment the husband and wife are busy with their work and household responsibilities. Kids are busy with school, studies and friends. Apart from short dinner table conversations and rare weekend trips, there are few opportunities for the family to bond without worrying about the dreaded Monday morning.
This is where traveling comes in the picture. It offers an opportunity for the family to spend time doing nothing but relaxing and enjoying each other's company. This is the time when parents can bond with their children and siblings can do stuff together.
14) Traveling is a learning experience for kids
Traveling can be one of the best forms of education for children in addition to their classroom learning. It can be an eye opener for kids as they step out from the comfort zone of their homes and venture to new lands with their families.
From learning how to be safe in unknown environments, learning how to read a boarding pass correctly to learning about different food etiquette, traveling can be an immensely rewarding experience for kids. This is the life education that books and coursework cannot impart.

This is a very interesting article about the benefits of travelling. There are benefits of both travelling along and with other people. Whenever my son comes to visit me in Thailand, he never fails to bring another person with him. This hurts me in a way because I would like him to spend more time with me than his friends while visiting. Voted up and sharing with followers.
