Beautiful Pictures and Photos of Guernsey Scenery
I am lucky enough to be able to live in the beautiful Channel Island of Guernsey, which is so much more than just an offshore centre of finance. There is so much more to Guernsey as people who have visited here will testify.
Guernsey is an island rich in history dating back many centuries, surrounded by beautiful clean sandy beaches, friendly locals, an abundance of tiny country lanes bordered by grassy banks complete with flowers and plants growing over them, beautiful countryside, as well as reasonably priced hotel accommodation, frequently offering superb Guernsey sea views.
Don't dismiss Guernsey as anything less than a perfect holiday destination, as we are English speaking, have no VAT, no terrorism, little crime, lots of places to see and activities to partake in, a mild climate and great restaurants, (frequently with locally caught fresh fish on the menu).
With the current exchange rates being as bad as they are, more and more people are looking for ways to go on holiday and stretch their money further, and what better way to do this than to travel to an island like Guernsey as opposed to travelling abroad! In Guernsey we have our own pound notes, but they are the same value as English pound notes, in fact we even accept English currency in all of our retail outlets, hotels, restaurants etc. Our own notes are of equal denominations to the GBP so there is little room to be confused.
This hub is not written to tell you all the merits of Guernsey though, it is intended to actually show you the beauty of this island via pictures and images for you to judge for yourselves. Let me know what you think!
This is the second such hub I have displayed of Guernsey photographs and images, the first can be found if you click here.

Hi Marcus,
For a good hotel or choice of hotels I would recommend
The Old Government House (OGH) in St Peter Port
The Cobo Bay Hotel at Castel
La Grande Mare Hotel at Castel
or
La Fregate Hotel in St Peter Port
http://www.lafregatehotel.com/
For a good fish restaurant I would recommend
La Fregate Hotel again (as above), although they do offer excellent food in general and you don't have to have fish.
Le Nautique Restaurant in St Peter Port
http://www.lenautiquerestaurant.co.uk/
Pier 17 in St Peter Port
or
The Hotel de Havelet in St Peter Port, where you can eat in either their Havelet Grill room (which I prefer) or in their other restaurant the 'Wellington Boot'

I hope this helps and that you have a lovely holiday in Guernsey. If I can be of any further help please let me know.

Hello there.. My grandfather who lived on Guernsey was Dr Richard Gibson OBE, and stayed on the island during WW2. By coincidence we are visiting Guernsey in late July. Can you advise on a good hotel, and a good fish restaurant for an evening out? Many thanks in advance,
Marcus Gibson

Hi there The Loan Arranger. I used to go in the Rockmount all the time until they started to take the mickey with their prices. Now I go into the Atlantique Hotel's Victoriana Bar just a bit further around the West Coast at Perelle Bay. Just as good, but the beer about 20-30 pence a pint cheaper. Alternatively the Venture Inn up by the Mallard near the airport is great, serves top class food, yet still offers stuff like a pool table in the public bar and Karaoke at weekends. If you go in either next time you are over ask who "Cindy and Richard with the fishing lake" are. If we are in there someone will point us out.
So pleased you love Guernsey too :)
The Loan Arranger on July 15, 2010:
Hi Misty, Some great images there of the beautiful Island. I run my business from Guernsey and am over at least once a month so I know how lovely the place is. Am looking forward to our visit this month, a quiet drink at the Rockmount or a noisy one at The Swan in town.

Stunning, breath taking photography. What a lovely place to live. Loved the images and narrative. Thank you for a beautiful hub.
Cindy Lawson (author) from Guernsey (Channel Islands) on November 05, 2009:
Hi PJK, I couldn't legally sell any of them apart from the ones of the lake, as the lake ones are the only ones I can take credit for. Those pictures were taken on a normal digital camera that cost about £160 to buy originally, nothing special.
Thanks for popping in, always great to see you visit my hubs :)
pjk_artist from Turkey Point, ON on November 05, 2009:
Wicked Pics! You should frame and sell most of these. I love the fishing lake...makes we want to be there. Did you use an expensive camera?
Cindy Lawson (author) from Guernsey (Channel Islands) on November 05, 2009:
Thanks beth811, it is a beautiful island you would love it :)
Thanks Jane@CM, I think I will end up here forever, although I will say house prices are expensive here, everything else is lovely though.
Hi Jiberish, thanks for dropping in, God certainly paints the best pictures of all I agree, you simply can't beat nature for beauty. :)
Jiberish from florida on November 04, 2009:
Beautiful, breath taking. You are so lucky to live in such a place. It just goes to show that God was an artist. Thank you for sharing!
Jane@CM on November 04, 2009:
OH.MY.GOSH - I want to live there forever. Stunning photos!
Beth Arch from Pearl of the Orient Seas on November 04, 2009:
I am already exhilarated by these beautiful images alone, how much more if I am really there!
