5 Places To Hide Your Money While Travelling

Thelma is a Filipina expat living in Germany. She is a very creative person, shares tips and DIY about anything she has done in life.

Up, Up In The Sky

Flying to the Philippines from Germany or vice versa

Flying to the Philippines from Germany or vice versa

Living in two continents, I traveled a lot from my home country Philippines to my adopted country Germany. It became a routine to me what to pack in my luggage and what not to. Although I know what to do, I still have to make a list in case I forget some things. I´ll check it then when the final day comes for my final packing.

One of the things I should not forget are the travel paraphernalia where I can hide my money or credit cards.

I was already hold-up before in the Philippines that I´m too careful now. I should not write this hub where to hide the money, but I want to share it with you for safety reasons while you are travelling.

Wear Waist Travel Belt For Your Travel

Waist Travel Money Belt

Waist Travel Money Belt

1. Waist Travel Money Belt

Waist travel money belt is a belt with two separate pockets made of cotton or leather where you can hide your passport, credit cards and money while travelling. Hide this belt under your shirt or under your pants. Never put this belt over your clothes as pickpocketers will know where they can easily slash it off from your body.

This is one of my choices as there´s enough space for my travel itinerary and some of my valuable papers.

Passport Credit Card Money Belt That I Use In Travelling

This Passport Money Belt is a very good companion for my travel because I feel safe wearing this especially that it has RFID protector against electronic thieves. A worthy investment for my travel.

2. Secret Pocket Of Your Pants

Wearing pants during your travel is very comfortable. You can sew a secret pocket with a zipper in the inner side of your pants. You can put your money, credit cards, ticket and passport inside the secret pocket. The zipper secures the content of your secret pocket and don´t forget to close it after putting your things inside.

Wear Money Pouch For Your Travel

3. Travel Pouch

This is a travel pouch with a long thread for you to be hanged around your neck or across your shoulder. There are two pockets with zipper where you can put your passport, cash, credit cards, tickets and some other important things you need for your travel. Hang this travel pouch under your shirt or your jacket where nobody can see it.

4. Bra With Secret Pocket

Some of you might have not heard about it, but I have seen this traveler bra inside the shopping mall in the Philippines. I was amazed and glad at the same time. Nobody from my friends told me about this. I found it accidentally while looking some summer clothes to buy.

As you can see in the photo, there´s a wide pocket in this bra with zipper for sealing the content. It´s made of cotton. It could be warm wearing this when travelling, but it´s safe.

5. Panty Safe With Zipper

This is the weirdest safety travel accessories for a woman that I have ever seen in the Philippines shopping mall. I was even laughing about it. I was imagining how I had to get the money from this panty without getting the attention of the cashier, lol.

I have no photo of this panty travel safe. Just imagine it. The front side of the panty has a pocket and of course with a zipper. You can only put money notes in it or anything you want to hide. Don´t forget to close it. You might go to the loo and will lose the money there. It happened to some Filipino women before who were using this kind of panty for a safe while travelling.

Things To Remember

  1. Don´t forget to close your travel pouch or waist money belt.
  2. Always put your travel pouch or waist money belt under your pants or jacket.
  3. Always hang your neck and shoulder travel pouch bag under your shirt or jacket.
  4. Don´t forget to close your travel money bra after opening it.
  5. Always close the zipper of your panty with safe when you still have money in it.

My New Travel Money Belt Where I Can Put My Smartphone

This is my new Travel Money belt for all the documents I need when travelling. I also put my smartphone inside. Wearing this make me feel safe as well. I also use this when shopping without carrying a handbag.

Some Tips:

  • If you want to use this bra or panty with secret pockets, put the things you don´t need (in boarding the plane) like some of your cash and credit cards inside only after you have been checked up by the securities in the airport. You have to go to the loo to do that.
  • As a woman, it´s easier to use this bra when you wear a blouse where you can open it easily.
  • When you want to change your money to other currency in a bank in the country you are having vacation, don´t put the money in one place. Separate the money. Put some in your hand bag (wallet), waist travel pouch and maybe in your bra or panty.
  • Don´t wear valuable jewelries in your travel especially when you fly to countries like Philippines. Thieves are everywhere.

I hope this hub will help you for your travel. I will be glad if you give some more tips on how you travel safely abroad. Thanks for reading and please leave a comment.

Hi Mary! I hope you can travel to Puerto Rico again and write about your travel. It is also freezing cold here in Germany. Take care and have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 19, 2015:

Hi Paul! Thank you for your visit and for sharing this hub to others. I think many Asian women are doing this on traveling. Have a great weekend ahead.

Mary Hyatt from Florida on February 19, 2015:

I have not done much traveling outside the US, but when I have, I used a waist belt. It's so cold here today in Florida, I wish I could travel back to Puerto Rico! Great Hub with good info. Voted UP, etc.

Paul Richard Kuehn from Udorn City, Thailand on February 19, 2015:

Thelma, you certainly have written a very useful hub which any traveler should read. I have never used the concealed money belt, but I certainly will when I travel to the Philippines. I remember my ex Taiwanese wife hiding some money in her bra when we travelled from Taiwan to the States years ago. Voted up and sharing with HP and Facebook followers.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 05, 2015:

Hi Nikki100! Apology accepted. Your comment a few months ago was good and I appreciate that. BTW, I arranged in my comment settings to view the comments first before I approve them as there were a few spammers who just commented nonsense. You can do that too if you want. Have a nice day!

Nikki100 on February 05, 2015:

firstly, my apologies to you Thelma Alberts and this website and it's users, for me thinking you'd deleted my comments on a previous visit as that was not the case. Me been a newbie to all this I just simply thought that's the norm because some people may have found my comments on my money stashing system either offensive or distasteful. obviously that's not the case either ! silly me ! anyway sorry for that too ! I've rated this site 10 out of 10 , it is really really good and I'll be posting later. The panty stash seems to be very popular with women, going by the comments they've posted. I can definitely vouch for that !!!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 02, 2015:

LOL! Me either Tiki33. But I have heard some in my home country who are doing that when traveling. That´s how I came to know of this panty safe. Thanks for your comment.

Tiki33 on February 02, 2015:

I certainly wouldn't choose to have my money and credit cards in my panties. That's pretty weird. I can do the secret pocket in a pair of pants. It's best to find a reliable hiding place.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on December 30, 2014:

Yes, there is peachpurple. I have bought 2 from the Philippines. Enjoy your New Year 2015!

peachy from Home Sweet Home on December 30, 2014:

i didn't know there is such thing as bra with pouch! Great

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on December 14, 2014:

Yes, one should be very careful especially when traveling. Thank you for your comment ChitrangadaSharan. Enjoy your new week!

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on December 13, 2014:

These are very useful suggestions. One should be very careful while travelling especially to foreign countries. Passport, Visa, money and all important documents must be kept safely.

Thanks for sharing these useful tips!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 02, 2014:

Hi Nikki100,

I have just logged in and I saw your comments. I don´t think your comment here was deleted. I have to approved it first before you can see your own comment. I have not been here for 5 days. Sorry if you thought these comments are deleted.

Your advice regarding hiding your money is good. I have tried that method as well as the other I have mentioned above. Thanks for your comments.

Nikki100 on October 01, 2014:

Obviously the people running this website seem to take offence at certain comments posted on this site regarding situations that have happened to people on their travels, and their ideas of how they hide their money as my comments have been erased from it ! ( my first post as a new member ) and also my last !!! Not much of a website at all ! Please delete my email address from your records !!! Rubbish site that's not worth bothering with !!!!

Nikki100 on October 01, 2014:

Interesting ideas ! I've been pick pocketed 3 times so far in about 18 months when on holiday , But ....not anymore ! My method of hiding money is the best one yet and very simple ! The bulk of my cash goes in a plastic bank bag , I then keep that down my panties or bikini pants ,whichever i happen to be wearing at the time underneath a summer skirt or shorts so you can't even tell it's down there . It's perfectly safe and comfy , if I need to access it I simply go to the toilet , e few notes and change i leave in my purse or pocket. Has anyone else tried this method as I certainly recommend it .

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on September 27, 2014:

Hi Nikki100,

Welcome to Hubpages! Yes, write your hubs and I´ll be checking these soon. Thanks for your visit.

Nikki100 on September 27, 2014:

Hi there all, just joined up so I'm a bit of a newbie ! Very interesting ideas ,I have a few of my own that I'll post shortly .

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on August 28, 2014:

Hi VirginiaLynne,

I was doing what you did to be safe but traveling with pants is comfortable for me. Thanks for your wonderful comment. Have a nice day!

Virginia Kearney from United States on August 27, 2014:

Great information. I use the waist wallet and the neck wallet (with purse under my clothes). I put only what I need to show or use in my neck wallet and everything else on waist. To be really safe, I wear a dress--hard for someone to get that! However, that sometimes makes it harder at airport security.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on July 10, 2014:

LOL! I don´t have that panty safe with safer but I´ll buy one and will take a photo of this for posting it here. Thanks for your visit ubanichijioke. Have a great day!

Alexander Thandi Ubani from Lagos on July 10, 2014:

A very informative hub. I like it but what about the picture for the weirdest "Panty Safe With Zipper"? lol

Good job!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on May 14, 2014:

Thanks for your wonderful comment tobusiness. This is indeed very interesting for the airport security if you already have the cash and credit cards inside your bra when they check you before flying.

Jo Alexis-Hagues from Lincolnshire, U.K on May 13, 2014:

Some very creative ideas, this could make going through airport security very interesting. Great hub, ingenious ideas. Voting up and very useful.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 05, 2014:

Yes, they are rebeccamealey. I don´t know who founded those bra and panty with pockets, but I surely know that those great ideas are very useful for travelers like me. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 05, 2014:

Yes, I prefer bra pocket than waist travel belt. I think it´s more safer than the said belt. Thanks for your comment Suzanne Day. Have a lovely day!

Rebecca Mealey from Northeastern Georgia, USA on February 04, 2014:

These are great ideas! Love the bra and panties, and I think someone had a great idea to think of producing them! Thanks for letting us know!

Suzanne Day from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on February 04, 2014:

I have used a waist travel belt and found it twisted up a little bit when I was sweaty in a warm country, so I switched to a bra pocket, which worked wonderfully! Voted useful.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on February 03, 2014:

Thanks moonlake for your nice comment and shares. You are right. If you put your money in different places in your body while traveling and get rob, you still have something to buy for your ticket for going home or to the police station. Have a nice day!

moonlake from America on February 03, 2014:

Very good ideas. It's always a worry where to put money when traveling at least some of it so you don't end up completely broke if something happens. Voted up and shared.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on December 20, 2013:

I was laughing too, when I first saw the panty with the secret pocket. It would be so funny paying the cashier from the money inside of that panty. ...I have not heard of the money being rolled up and hide it into the hair. Very strange indeed. Thank you for your visit. Have a lovely weekend, Fiona Jean Mckay!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on December 20, 2013:

Thank you Christy Writes for your comment. I hope you´ll use one of the tips in your future travel. Happy weekend!

Fiona from South Africa on December 15, 2013:

I had to laugh at the panties with a secret pocket - I can't imagine that the cashier would want to take the money from there. Here in SA, we often stick our money in our bras but they're just ordinary ones, not like the one you had there. We also have a problem here with pickpockets so I've seen money come from some strange places - one woman even rolled it up tightly into her hair to hide it!

Christy Birmingham from British Columbia, Canada on December 15, 2013:

These ideas are impressive! Sewing a secret pocket into your pants is a great idea - good to know about these options for in the future if I travel!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 21, 2013:

Thanks for your visit JPSO138 I´m glad that I introduced to you those things. You might need one of those when travelling abroad with your wife. You don´t even have to go abroad for using those things, our country is one of the most dangerous countries when it comes to pickpocketters. I read this somewhere. Have a great day!

JPSO138 from Cebu, Philippines, International on November 20, 2013:

Though I may not be wearing any of the undergarments, I am happy to know that they do exist. Honestly, this is the first time I came across on things like this. Happy to have read your hub. Generally, this is very informative indeed.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 19, 2013:

Thanks for your visit vespawoolf. I´m sure you have an adventurous travel in the U.S.A. and you could not wait to go home, right? It´s always like that with me when I travel. Yes, I think the best hidden place is the bra and the secret pocket of a pants. Have a safe drive home! Take care;-)

Vespa Woolf from Peru, South America on November 18, 2013:

We are on the road and have spent the past 2 months in the U.S. Soon we are heading home to Peru so I really appreciate these ideas. I especially like the hidden pocket in pants or bra. Very clever! I think those would be the safest places to keep money and cards. Thank you for your helpful tips!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 08, 2013:

That´s a good thing to know that you used panty with zipper. I have one, but I have not tried using it as I feel so warm just thinking about it, lol. Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate that. Have a great weekend tattuwurn!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 08, 2013:

I agree with you about the stealing habits started with a young age. I think that´s because of poverty and luck of good guidance from their parents.

We have also those travelers services in Germany where I live half of the year. The stolen cards access are blocked immediately the moment you report the lose.

That is a wonderful secret of hiding your cash in an ankle section of a knitted sock. I have not heard of this before. I might use that in the cooler places, but not in the Philippines where I mostly used sandals. Thank you Marie Flint for your visit. I appreciate that. Have a great weekend!

Marie Flint from Jacksonville, FL USA on November 05, 2013:

This is a very useful hub, Thelma.

I'm sorry you have to be so cautious when traveling, though. I guess thieves have learned the habit of stealing from a fairly young age. Where love and abundance should be reality, these types of people have obviously experienced otherwise. Why else would they steal?

As for other places to stash some cash--the ankle section of a knitted sock works fairly well, as does between the arch of the foot and the sock or shoe. I happen to have a very high instep, so there's plenty of room beneath my arch for a roll of bills.

In the United States, we have Traveler's Express services. If your card is lost or stolen, they replace it quickly. Access to funds on the stolen card is blocked. Since I've never been out of the States, I don't know how useful this service is out of the country.

I wanted to make a few edits, but they were minor. Good job!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 04, 2013:

Thanks europewalker for your comment. I appreciate that. The bra with secret pocket is one of my favorite. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 04, 2013:

I´m hesitant to use the pouch around the neck as the robber can still see it Glimmer Twin Fan. The robbers in my home country grab a necklace or an earring from your body so, why not the pouch around the neck as well? Thanks for your comment. I appreciate that. Have a great day!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 04, 2013:

Thank you MsDora for your visit. Yes, it is always scary to travel with money, but we have to. It´s scary for me to travel in the big cities with commuting jeepneys in the Philippines as I and my friends were robbed before and the pistol was pointed in our direction while the jeepney continued to travel. Horrifying experienced.

europewalker on November 04, 2013:

Excellent hub Thelma. I have always used a travel pouch. All of your suggestions are good. I especially like the bra with the secret pocket.

Claudia Porter on November 04, 2013:

This is extremely useful for travelers. I am always amazed at how many people I talk to that have been robbed on trips. I always carry a pouch around my neck, tucked under my shirt. It would be horrible to be overseas and without money or a passport. Well done.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 03, 2013:

Very helpful. It is always scary traveling with money. Never knew some of these hiding places even existed. Just think; they make it easy to remember where you put the money. Voted useful.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 02, 2013:

You are right MartieCoetser. In the Philippines where I am this time, the big cities are dangerous when you let your gadget like cellphone be seen to other people. You´ll never know who´s in front of you when your commuting with a jeepney or when you are in a shopping mall. Thank you for your comment. Have a great Sunday!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on November 02, 2013:

Hi Dolores Monet,

Yes, you´ll never know so keeping the money in different locations is a good idea. Thanks for your visit and have a great Sunday.

Martie Coetser from South Africa on October 28, 2013:

Thanks for these tips, Thelma. I would even use 2-3 of them at the same time, just for in case.

Down here people get killed for a cellphone. I believe the only thing one can do is to not encourage thieves to mark you as their next victim. Keep what's precious out of their sight and hopefully it will stay out of their mind as well....

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on October 28, 2013:

Great tips, Thelma! I like the belt and also like the idea of keeping money in separate locations. You never know!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 24, 2013:

I think those bra and panty compartments are only existing in the Philippines. I have no idea if those are also used in another countries. Thanks for your visit Victoria Lynn. Have a great day!

Victoria Lynn from Arkansas, USA on October 23, 2013:

What great tips! I didn't know about the bra and panties with the secret compartments! Neat!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 22, 2013:

I use that as well Vinaya Ghimire. It´s a great hiding place. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Vinaya Ghimire from Nepal on October 20, 2013:

I usually use secret pocket in my pant to hide money while traveling.

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 19, 2013:

Thank you for your visit. I´m like that too. Since the hold up I´m also more careful than before. Have a great weekend Nell.

Nell Rose from England on October 17, 2013:

Hi thelma, this is great advice, I know paranoid I get when traveling abroad with my money, so all these ideas are really helpful, nell

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 17, 2013:

Yes, the waist belt and the hidden pants pocket are easy to access. You were not the only one who was imagining it drbj. For me using a panty safe is a kind of a joke, but they are really used by some of the women in the Philippines. Thanks for your visit. Have a nice day!

Thelma Alberts (author) from Germany on October 17, 2013:

Thank you DDE for stopping by. I hope you will be travelling soon. Have a lovely day!

drbj and sherry from south Florida on October 16, 2013:

I have used both the waist belt and the hidden pants pocket before while traveling, Thelma, and they were the easiest to access. Had to laugh while imagining a traveler trying to get to his or her panty safe. Thanks for the reminders, m'dear.

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on October 16, 2013:

5 Places To Hide Your Money While Travelling, great tips and definitely helpful to all travelers. I will keep this in mind when I start travelling. A well advised hub.

Hi Suzie!

I have not seen that bra here in Germany either, only in the Philippines. I sew hidden pockets in my pants before when those waist belt was not yet popular for travellers. Thanks for your comment and for your votes and share. Take care;-)

Hi Thelma,

Nice one! Great tips and ideas which are really useful. I love the bra idea but have never seen them on sale here. I have used hidden pockets and the pouch around the waist many times successfully. Great write, Up +++ shared!

Thelma, this is a very useful and well-written hub. I prefer to wear a waist belt. I haven't heard of the bra and the panty. I was really astonished. But it's always good to know about other options as well. Thanks for sharing.

Very helpful options, most of which I did not know were available! This could make it fun going through airport security if you forget and put coins in there.

Hi srsddn! Thank you for your visit and for giving a comment. I was hold up in my home country while inside the going jeepney. Thanks God I did not put my important papers in my handbag. Thank you for your visit and for giving a comment. Be careful in your next travel. Have a great week!

thelmaalberts, Very useful information. I wish I had it when I was a frequent traveller. Passport, credit card and cash need to be very safe while travelling and I have faced the music at London airport once. Thanks for posting the videos also. Useful.
