Wurlitzer Jukebox History

The early days of Wurlitzer as a company date all the way back to the 17th century, and this jukebox exploded in popularity in the late 1940s.

Wurlitzer introduced the model 1015 Jukebox in 1946. With its rounded top and bubble tubes, this particular model established itself as the MOST attractive jukebox of all time. In fact, 56,000 of these machines were built and sold in only 18 months between 1946 and 1947.

Wurlitzer family traditions in music can be traced back to the 17th century. Ancestors had immigrated to America in 1853 and had already made a name for themselves in Saxony as manufacturers of and dealers in musical instruments. Rudolph Wurlitzer founded THE WURLITZER COMPANY in 1856.

At first he imported musical instruments and opened sales outlets in all big American cities, starting the production of pianos in America in 1880. Later the youngest son, Farny Wurlitzer, bought a patented music box mechanism in the early 30s, and took on the inventor named Capehart, along with a brilliant designer named Paul Fuller. Wurlitzer quickly took over 60 percent of the booming jukebox market.

The "golden era" of the jukebox continued until the war years. Much later in 1986, Deutsche Wurlitzer GmbH brought the "One More Time" nostalgia jukebox with modern technology onto the market.

He also introduced other modern electronics and Compact Disc technology. Extremely popular in upscale commercial venues and residential game rooms, the 1015 Jukebox look remains the icon of the most sensational jukeboxes ever.
