Why Is Facebook Stealing My Baby Photos?

I am a website developer, eBay trading assistant, work-at-home mum, writer and crafter.

Why Is Facebook Stealing Baby Photos?

Why Is Facebook Stealing Baby Photos?

Is Facebook Stealing Baby Photos?

Recently, some people discovered a community Facebook page called Babies.

On this page may appear photos of your children or your friend’s children.

Many parents have been quite worried since their children’s photos have been appearing in a place where they did not upload them - naturally they are quite concerned about who else can see these private images.

Luckily there is a simple and safe explanation as to why privacy protected baby photos are appearing on this page.

And no, Facebook is not stealing them.

Ownership of Facebook Community Pages

Facebook owns and operates these pages, no one else!

Facebook Guides

What Type of Page Is This? – Community Pages

Facebook has a special type of page called a Community Page which it uses to display generic information relating to general topics. A community page is on a topic too broad to have one particular editor or owner. Examples include town names and topics like “Toast” or “Flowers”. These pages don’t do updates, but can be “liked”.

Usually a community page will have an extract from Wikipedia giving a brief description of the topic. It will also show friends who like that topic (this can also be because they have listed it as an interest in their profile.) The page will sometimes show an aggregated feed of any post or photo relating to that topic that has been mentioned by your group of friends or posted to a group you are a member of.

These pages are pull their content – both Wikipedia and feeds – automatically. They cannot be edited or changed other than by Facebook. The only thing that can be edited by a user is to suggest a change in the category the age is in or to suggest an official related page (for instance to associated the Coca-Cola official page with the Coca Cola community page.)

Highlighted Red Box

The text in the highlighted red box reads:

"This Page is automatically generated based on what Facebook users are interested in and not affiliated with or endorsed by anyone associated with the topic"

Why Are My Baby or My Friend’s Baby Photos on A Community Page

This page uses a very simple aggregation (information gathering) algorithm to display any photo your friend has taken with the word “baby” in the photo description.

Who Else Can See My Baby Or My Friend’s Baby Photos?

The only people who can see these photos on the Baby Page (or any other similar page) are those who you allow to in your privacy settings.

For instance:

  • If you post a photo with the word baby in its description with the “friends only” privacy setting on, anyone who is your friend will see that baby photo on the baby page.
  • If you post a photo with the word baby in its description and your content is set to “public”, all your friends and anyone who follows you (if you have the follower option enabled) will be able to see the photo.
  • If you post a photo with the word baby in its description to any group you are a member of, any person who is a member of that group will be able to see the photo on the community page.
Scroll to Continue

To understand how content aggregation works, take a look at your newsfeed. You can see dozens of updates from friends – but only you and that person’s friends can see those updates. Essentially, this community page is like a “newsfeed” of all your friend’s baby photos.

Don’t worry – your images can only be seen by those who you’ve set to see them in your privacy settings, or those who are in groups you’re a member of where you have posted personal photos!

Did You Know

If you have tagged anyone on any of your photos, EVERY friend of that person can potentially see it too; subject to your friend's privacy settings.

The ONLY images that will show in the photo feed on these pages are those images that you have allowed your friends to see and your friend's friends based on their own privacy settings. Also any photos posted to a group that you are a member of!

Does Facebook Own Your Photos, Videos and Content?

You will be very surprised to see just who owns your online content and what you are actually signing up for when you join Facebook and other social networking sites.

What is important however is that you have complete control over who sees your content.

If you are not sure how to check your privacy settings, or want to update them to restrict them, take a look at this quick guide!

The Essential Walk Through Guide: How To Check and Adjust Your Facebook Privacy Settings

This is a MUST READ guide on how to check and set your Facebook Privacy settings. Keep this and refer to it regularly as a way to maintain your control!

Similar Community Pages

Are you aware that there are many similar community pages on Facebook of the same nature.

Here is one on dogs which shows friends who like dogs and related pages, plus photos of friends and dogs.

And another on Motorcycles!

Are you being added to Facebook groups without your permission?

Did you know that you can be added to a Facebook group without your permission! Yes, you can. This is potentially a huge invasion of privacy. And unless you are notified about it, you may never know. Make sure you read this guide on Facebook Groups!

Important Update

Update: It appears that Babies community page may have been taken down, probably due to Facebook's automatic reporting system, not because of its content. There are a number of other pages appearing with similar content. Make sure you adjust your privacy settings, remove tags off photos you do not want shared, remove all comments from the photos and THEN delete those you want to.

1. This article was written by a mother based on her knowledge of Facebook and is in no way associated with Facebook or have direct contact with them.

2. Although some of these baby topic pages have been taken down, there are different ones in different languages.

I am disgusted to have a friend come to me to tell me that my daughters are on this site and i have removed them and to find family members on their as will , i think the security needs to be better then this as there is so many pedophiles on here and over the country and having a good kick from our children, i have reported the page as i am not happy at all!

It seems that there are many similar sites still live on Facebook under different names. Not sure which ones people are referring to however I have seen mention of an infant one and newborn babies one...again cannot confirm. But regardless people need to adjust their privacy settings NOW and get all of their associated facebook friends to do the same. Here is a guide to that

shelley on May 10, 2013:

Didn't the article say the site was removed? Ppl need to stop putting pics on if they don't want them using by fb, pics of my baby was on there but Ive read the article properly, just need to make sure any of my fam n friends have the right setting, but if the site has gone why are ppl still moaning!!

Yes. You may have strict settings but if a friend does not it means it could be shared much further.

Jr on May 09, 2013:

Right I think i get it now, Can someone confirm please - even if my photos are set to friends only, a photo of my lad could still be uploaded to this page if a friend does it, and has looser security on their photos? Is that right? My heads ringing lol just finished work and walked through the door to this. Cheers :)

Lindsey on May 09, 2013:

Omg! Seriously, I'm sat laughing here. The OP explains it all, and so does plenty of other comments. Why are people still not getting it???? Thick as pig shit!

Robert Catton on May 09, 2013:

A- ONLY members of FB can see the pics

B- It is clearly stated in the EULA you supposedly read when you sign up to FB that they can use anything you type, link or upload for their own advertising purposes. How the flip do you think they stay online??

C- To advertise yourself socially is the very OPPOSITE of privacy. Common sense.

Are you all stupid or what saying Facebook shouldn't store your pictures who do you think stores your pictures every time you upload a photo ? FACEBOOK!! Its just a type of news feed if your setting arnt set to private then anyone can look you up and look at your pictures! If you look up dogs on Facebook scroll down you will see all photos of friends dogs with the caption dog!! FFS

Thank you for letting me know but regardless of the title, the content is still the same. The content clearly states that Facebook is not stealing anyone's photos. Hardly anyone is reading the content are they anyway. Thanks for your efforts by the way :)

Sora Pilgrim on May 09, 2013:

Also I'm not sure if you're aware of this but if you post the link of this page into Facebook it still comes up with the title "Why Is Facebook Stealing My Friend’s and My Baby Photos?"

Not you're new title "Why Is Facebook NOT Stealing My Friend’s and My Baby Photos?"

You're probably better off redoing the title completely. Maybe "Your baby photos are safe, if you have the right settings." I don't anything that will hopefully stop people jumping the gun.

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 09, 2013:

Katie - who are you posting this question/statement to? The page in question is a Facebook Page. It has nothing to do with any individual. I am just reporting it to alert everyone. Address your concerns to Facebook direct. It is their page and their terms and conditions.

Sora Pilgrim on May 09, 2013:

Ok I'm going to try and explain differently.

You know your news feed?

What if you could filter all the different articles from it.

Let say you want to know what all of your friends are saying about a certain football team. What would you do? Go through the whole of your newsfeed? Click on every friend and search their page? I highly doubt that.

What these "Community" pages do is quite simple what it says on the tin. It takes all the PUBLIC articles of your Community (Your friends, your family, work acquaintances etc.) and puts it into one place.

But now let's get onto the main point. What is Facebook? It is a social website. They want you to build more and more interactions between other people. How are you likely to do this, by being introduced to other like minded people.

Just look at all these comments on here. I bet none of you probably know each other. But you're joined together via your hatred for something you do not understand.

So facebook have taken advantage of that and they added into the news feed anyones photo that has it's privacy settings set to public.

There are loads of pages already like it but due to this one being babies everyone is going crazy about it. It reminds me of this news story back in 2000 about a small village mistaking a paediatrician professional title with the word "paedophile" and then mobbing her.

Katie on May 09, 2013:

So u take pictures of my baby and then block me from the page??

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 09, 2013:

Emma - the site you are referring to is a Facebook site.

Moral of the story

Don't use the Internet if you don't understand the t&c's

Evo on May 08, 2013:

I find it difficult to believe that there are people out there who are actually defending this site, and as for the repeat publication of these words "automatically generated based on what Facebook users are interested in"....who in their right mind is interested in photo's of other peoples babies and children? If you defend this then there is something seriously wrong with you as an individual, maybe you get some kind of kick from it. If I see a retaliatory comment to this then I will assume that you are one of the sick wierdo's that our children should be protect from.

Ebony merrdith on May 08, 2013:

Nbf everyone is gonna start deleteing pictures of their own children because of this group...and tbh you shouldn't have to delete all your photos of people that's your life..this group shouldn't even be made tbh..iam not happy the fact that my neice an nephew are on that group...their mam is gonna take this furter if this group does not getting off facebook..

Why do this knowing full well people are going to kick off, especially when it comes to there children, can you blame them ? I'm not happy at all and will be deleting all my pics of my daughter as a result I put my pictures up of the progression of my daughter for family and friends to c as I live away from them, NOT for them to be put on a community page

Louise on May 08, 2013:

What there saying About only friends being able to see ur photos is a lie I have always had it so only friends can see my pictures and people I don't even know I can see there pictures and they can see mine so that's not true when they tell us that. This is why I will not put photos of my child on the Internet with no clothes on or in a nappie I always make sure she is clothed. After all u don't know what pedophile is out there on that page or any for that matter

Lindsay on May 08, 2013:

This is wrong. Can someone please tell me the name of the group I wish for the photos of my son to be removed please

Christian on May 08, 2013:

I agree with Kate 100%. Thank you.

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 08, 2013:

Totally agree Kate - that is why this was written; for awareness for all of us. It was complete news to me also.

kate on May 08, 2013:

point being- when people are told something is private after they have changed settings and all that, it should damn well stay private. And why shouldn't people be able to upload pictures to share with family and friends that live all over the world? Plus, when I signed up to facebook and checked that terms and conditions box- nowhere did it state that MY pictures become FACEBOOK'S property. That's just bull-and yes, I read it-and no it's not right because a proportion of the older generation don't know all these things so they innocently upload a picture of, say, a grandchild and suddenly people are saying they can see this childs picture on some group or page?! It's pretty scary for all involved so facebook should NOT be doing crap like this regardless of weather anyone other than your self can view it or not. They shouldn't be meddling with people's things-the end.

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 08, 2013:

This article clearly states both via the image attached and in a separate text box that the community pages we are discussing here are ".... automatically generated based on what Facebook users are interested in and not affiliated with or endorsed by anyone associated with the topic..."

Therefore these pages are not owned by any person. They are auto generated Facebook pages.

To those that are swearing and making inappropriate rude comments their posts will be removed. If you have an issue with the Facebook pages you are seeing report them directly to Facebook. This is NOT the place to abuse anyone. This is simply an independent article discussing the facts of a current topic. The information here in this article is all taken from Facebook and Facebook Terms Of Use agreements which any user who is on Facebook will have agreed to.

Karla on May 08, 2013:

Was never worried as I could only see my friends pics if you are that dumb don't use facebook If you are that worried don't post pics on facebook

Bob on May 08, 2013:

You do realise that any picture posted on the Internet becomes public property and if this was to go to court you would all be laughed at. Post pictures at your own risk. Don't want others to see them, the simple answer is don't post them

Ellie on May 08, 2013:

HRH, in my experience, if you are in a group with people you are NOT friends with, they can't see your pics at all. I'm a member of several groups - some open, some restricted, and some totally secret. I've never been able to see the pics of someone in a group that I'm not friends with, so I'm quite sure they wouldn't be able to see mine.

HRH on May 08, 2013:

Ok you all realise that this article was written by a Facebook user, not Facebook?

I had one photo of my son, set to only me. Guess what? Others could see it.

If you are in a group with people you are NOT friends with, they can still see your pics, even if your privacy settings are set to friends/family only, others can still see them.

So calling people names is disgraceful. While it is ok for some, others are rightfully cranky. FB pages of groups are losing lots of members because of this.

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

You know how a microwave works.

Please enlighten us all. Explain how a microwave makes cold food, hot. Once you're done I'll explain what this has to do with everything.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

You really need to watch how you talk to people. I'm so sick of arguing with you. How about you start listening to other people. I did read what you said and I see that you're insulting people by saying "Do you know how a microwave works" EVERYONE KNOWS HOW IT WORKS. That comment WAS insulting and I didn't skim it dear like I said I have been on this page all day reading your hateful remarks to others. You are rude and that is why no one is listening to you!

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

I hate to break to you but you must also have a low level of intelligence as well.

You're obviously skim reading when you used the quote "Do you know how a microwave works?" I not asking if they know how to operate a microwave. I'm asking if they know how it works, the mechanics behind the machine. I'm asking if they understand why the food goes in cold and comes out hot. Most people don't know. I'm cool with that. It's not something that is common knowledge. I was using it also as a metaphor. The microwave is this Facebook feature of making communities. People don't understand how it works, how it gets to it's final result. But unlike the microwave (that people still use even though they don't understand the concept of resonance(that's what makes the food hot)), a small amount of willingly ignorant people are jumping on the bandwagon to get the Facebook feature shut down. A feature that will be great for millions upon millions of other people get either understand how it works or don't fully understand the ins and outs but know that their photos as long as they are set to PRIVATE will not be seen by anyone else.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

The page has been removed this was earlier today. How can you talk to people the way you do? Seriously.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

I have been reading through the comments. I have been on this page for hours reading and what i see is comments being deleted and people trying to explain how they feel and they're getting insulted. "Do you know how a microwave works" "These people are idiots" All of that was stated. Its rude. All I want is for those of you who have been being rude to see that some of us completely get what you've been saying but I want to be heard to. Why is it so easy for you to believe that EVERYONE is lying about what they see. That EVERYONE is over reacting. Look at the amount of people who have made posts. Yes, in the beginning people were confused and I get that. I was too. And yes, I see now what everyone else was saying. BUT I also know that I have tested this with other people and we proved that there is a flaw and that some stuff that is private is being seen by people that they're not friends with.

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

If they read the article correctly then there would be no need to insult.

But I feel that we are too soft on the idiots of the world. If I make a mistake I want someone to correct me on it. I know for instance that my spelling and grammar have been appalling these last couple of comments. Yet no one has pulled me up on it.

Also when I was insulting left and right the page was still down.

You I'm afraid, seem to be talking out of your backside.

If you really can see other peoples photos why don't you post the link on here and prove it?

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Christian- please read through all my comments not just the last one. The girls comment I was referring to isn't up for you to see so please read through.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

This was earlier today. Ya know when people were voicing their consirns and you were insulting them left and right.

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

Christian, I don't know what the previous comments were so I will leave it at that. But how are you testing this?

The Babies page has been temporarily removed. There isn't a way to test it. Unless you're doing it via the Dog or Motorcycle page. Which I doubt.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

And if you would stop insulting everyone who posts something disagreeing with you then maybe people would listen to you.

Ellie on May 08, 2013:

One more time. I truly do understand that many people posting here are concerned about their privacy and their children's safety. I get that, I do. As I said somewhere ^^ up there, I am a 60 year old grandmother of two beautiful boys, and I would do anything in my power to keep them safe.

However, what I'm seeing here is mass hysteria. Those of you who are shouting the loudest really haven't read the article properly.

The basic facts: If you can see a random stranger's picture, it means that the random stranger's privacy settings are set to public. Just because his/her settings are public, it does NOT mean that he/she can see YOUR photos. As long as you make sure that YOUR privacy settings are FRIENDS ONLY, there is NO danger that anyone other than your friends will see anything at all. Nobody has stolen your photos. It's that simple.

Christian on May 08, 2013:

Well if my comments would stop getting deleted you would know. I am saying that her and another person were attacking an individual who was just expressing their concerns just like everyone else. We're all entitled to feel whatever we want doesn't mean we have to be rude about it. I have personally tested this along with others and we can clearly see pictures that we know are set to private by other people. We have tested this different ways, I have deleted friends just to see if they could see certain pictures and they can and I have mine set to private. You people need to understand that some of us understand what you're saying but you won't listen to us. There are flaws in that page. We're not all lying to you. You act like everyone who disagrees with you is wrong. We're not. You're not either. But just as you want us to listen to you try listening to us!

Caz Hooper on May 08, 2013:

OMG the utter stupidity of all of these comments! It actually hurts to realise how stupid people can be. READ THE ARTICLE and you will see that only your FRIENDS can see your pics, unless you have your settings to PUBLIC!! And if you see random peoples pics, how bout you click on their facebook pages, and you will see that their pics are set to public and that is why you can see them. NO ONE can see your pics unless you have already given them permission to do so. Its like banging your head against a brick wall!!

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

Concerned Aunty T, you're not reading it right.

The reason you are seeing other people's (strangers) photos is because the photo you are seeing are not set to private. Just because you're a good little parent and set your photos to private doesn't mean that all other parents are the same. If you don't believe me then right click the photo and open it in either a new tab or window. Below the bottom right of the photo will be the name of the album it is in and just below that will state WHO THE PHOTO IS SHARED WITH. I can bet it's not set to Private.

Now the reason There are many different names for the "same page" is because THEY AREN'T THE SAME PAGE. Facebook searches for the names of page in the comments or descriptions. If enough of one word appears then a community page is made based around that word. A couple of example have been given already (Dogs and Motorcycles) there will be many more.

It's not a stupid feature. You and the people who are overreacting are stupid. It is based on the Twitter feature of Trends. Facebook finds what most people are talking about and then compiles it into one place so every can be social (remember it is a social website) and talk to each other about different hobbies or argue over who has the cutest child (yeah I went there). Now the people who need to jump off a cliff are the idiots who don't understand it, yet are still calling for it to be removed. Do you understand how your microwave works? No? Well by your logic that microwave should be thrown out the window into the street. Maybe by actually jumping off a cliff we can remove all the low IQ carriers and have a better selection for the Human gene pool.

And it's not the equivalent of some breaking into your home, taking your photos and posting them up for everyone to see. Using your analogy it is actually the Maid coming in to do a tidy finding photos that you've put on display but really hidden and moving them to a more predominant are in the house. NO STRANGER WILL GAIN ACCESS TO YOUR HOUSE AND SEE THE PHOTOS. BUT YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO SEE IT AS IT NOW ON THE MANTELPIECE INSTEAD OF IN THE AIRING CUPBOARD.

What is left that you don't understand?

Amy on May 08, 2013:

This is not an opinion lead debate. It's factual. But anyway the reason why I'm commenting is to try to help these angry and confused parents understand that their children's photos are not up on some site. Also I like the idea of the news feed page thing and all of this complaining about something that people haven't understood properly is going to ruin it for everyone else. And as I stated early I DO have a child. I guess I'm just a not educated enough to understand words such as "fink" or "cum" or "av". Maybe if I understood this form of English I'd understand the statement.

Concerned Aunty T on May 08, 2013:

After reading this article and understanding it, yet I have many many concerns and my suspicions.

Firstly the article states photos are of your friends and friends only. Well..'surprisingly' I came across some other people's photos whom I have no connection to. So explain that one? Who's to say, my photos of my nieces and nephew aren't just shown on some random's page. Assuming majority of parents settings are private for a bloody reason(Grrr)

Secondly, if this page was created for information on babies why constantly change the name, firstly it was babies, infants and now new borns? If it was so innocent and with the number of complaints I'm sure it's receiving why not just shut it down altogether? Instead of shutting it down and creating a replica with just a different name every time.

It is utter stupidty that Facebook even created this new feature. It was definitely a bad move and it's totally understandable to why parents/aunties/sisters/godparents are appalled. With the amount of sick bastards out there it's our responsibility to keep them safe. So to the inconsiderate cunts who think this whole matter is hilarious and that we are over-reacting need to jump off a cliff. Parents post photos up of their child for their friends and family to see hence the settings. So it is bizarre to see these private photos up for the public. It's an total invasion of privacy and it certainly sends a chill down my spine.

It's as if someone broke into my home stole my photos and posted them online. That's the equilivent. Photos in my home are private for only my friends and family to see, same goes with Facebook photos.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Sora- I understand why every parent was outraged to begin with I would be angry too. However, this article (they are commenting on) explains full well what the page is about and if by some chance they still are confused, there is a handful of people on this feed trying to explain in every different way what it all means but no one is listening.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Oh and Britt the answer to your question "do you know how many sick people are out there?" .. No I don't know the exact number but I have studied child protection and I do know the statistics/ ratio of sexual molestation and it sickens me. If you do not know these facts than I do not suggest you look it up because you will only worry more.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Sora- I totally understand that people didn't get it to begin with and they were outraged. If I thought what they were I would be angry too but the fact is this article that people are commenting on explains everything so there is really no reason for these comments. If the article did however confuse them a little and they didn't understand what it is trying to tell them there is a handful of us trying to explain it in so many different ways so they do understand but they either just don't get it or have chosen to ignore us. It's starting to really frustrate me.

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

Amy and all of the others who understand how this system works on facebook. Thank you. I don't think I could handle the thought of living in a world full with idiots that over react for all the wrong reasons.

Sora pilgrim- WELL SAID.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Britt, don't preach to me about worrying about every single little thing when it comes to children. My son is 2 and a half and I still wake up all hours of the night just to make sure he is breathing but there is nothing to worry about with the page. pretty much the way it works is a mini news feed. When you post a picture or status on Facebook and it comes up on your news feed do you complain saying "Facebook stole my status or photo" no because you know the only people who see this is the people you choose to allow to see it. It's Exactly the same only it only shows photos that you or your friends (or people who choose public)have posted over your Facebook life that contain a certain word ( in this case baby, babies ).

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

Sally your inability to read is ticking me off.

Carrie is telling exactly what to do to prevent your photos being visible on this page. Yet you rebuke her. You've got it stuck in that tiny little mind of yours that FACEBOOK HAS STOLEN MY PICTURES, OMG!.!!!1

THEY ARE NOT. You can see your own photos because they are just that, your photos. I can't see them, Carrie can't see them, damn it God probably can see them either if he has a Facebook account, unless of course he was on your friend list and your PRIVACY SETTINGS allow him to see your photos.

I think the biggest thing that needs to be said is that DIFFERENT PEOPLE WILL SEE DIFFERENT PHOTOS ON THIS PAGE.

Go to the Dog page on Facebook, here's the link:

The first photo is a Labrador. I know this as it's the image pulled from wikipedia.

What I don't know is the following sections:

The list of friends you have that like dogs. I've only got 4 people on their, you may have the same, you may have more or even less. But I do know that their names will be different.

Then the all important PHOTOS. My first one is of a cat jumping at a bridesmaid. Do you see that? If you do maybe you have the same friends as me. The next photo is picture of my friend with a puppy on his head asleep. If you say you can see that, then you are lying. He has only shared this photo with a very selective group of friends.

GO ON DO IT. TAKE THE TEST. See how you've gone and blown this all out of proportion. Just like when that Children's Doctor got run out a village just because the other name for Children's Doctor is a Paediatrician and people got confused and thought she was a Pedophile.

I know you want to protect your kids from the evils in the world. But right now the biggest evil you have to face for your kids is your own Stupidity.

fay on May 08, 2013:

if your worried about weirdos seeing your pictures, don't put them on the Internet, send them to your family and friends by email or text message.

Britt on May 08, 2013:

We only get worked up because its our children. When a parent sees that their child's photo is somewhere it shouldn't be they're going to overreact. Do you know how many sick people there are in the world? We get what you are saying, we get that the photos may not actually be on the page but its still scary for those of us who worry about every little thing when it comes to our children. We just want to protect them.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Seriously, you all fire each other up and don't actually read the comments telling you that this page doesn't have your children's photos! There is no delete option BECAUSE the photos are not on the page. The page is acting as a news feed.

steph on May 08, 2013:

to have your baby's photos removed you have to delete them yourself off your page or delete the word 'baby' from the caption!!! is anyone actually reading this or just scanning??

only you and your friends can see the photos if you have it set to private and if your page is set to public then you put the photos on the Internet for the public to see. don't want your photos on the Internet for everyone to see?? don't upload them in the first place!!

Sally on May 08, 2013:

Okay Carrie you're starting to tick me off. ITS OUR CHILDREN AND OUR PICTURES AND THEY ARE ON THERE WHEN WE DON'T WANT THEM TO BE. Its as simple as that! We shouldn't have to remove them from our facebook pages so they won't appear somewhere else. If we wanted them somewhere else we would post them there. If you're perfectly okay with the page then stop wasting your time posting comments and do something else with you're life but the rest of us will continue to say something until the problem is resolved.

Amy on May 08, 2013:

Everyone settle down. The page is not taking your photos. How it works is.. When you look on the page you can see your friends images they once posted on there page. These photos are not actually on the page but its kind of a link to your friends picture. The reason you can see strangers photos is because they have set their photo to public. ONLY YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS CAN SEE YOU PHOTOS. Calm down.,

Carrie on May 08, 2013:

Ok in plain English now-

Your privacy is in no way affected! If you don't want your pics on these groups then remove them from Fb,its no different to them being on your own personal profile! Why are you people not understanding something that couldn't be any clearer?!

Britt on May 08, 2013:

We have the right two protect our children. I didn't even "like" the page and it had picture of my child on it. This is not okay. And we ALL read this article before posting comments and it doesn't matter what they're saying, I can see picture of other people's children on it and they're also joining in and complaining about it. Its our right as parents to say something. So if we want this site removed or the pictures of our children taken off of it then they need to do that. We should be asked if we want photos of our babies on there. They shouldn't just be able to take them without asking. ESPECIALLY when some of us have our stuff set to private and its STILL on the site. In what world is that okay?

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

I believe you to be wrong. I had this situation happen a couple of different times with different friends.

Each time they wanted to show me a picture they were tagged in (either by themselves, by the uploader or by another friend) and I was unable to see it as I wasn't friends with the uploader. Even with the tagged friends who have all their settings on public.

This is why I believe (i.e know) you to be wrong. If you don't think that is right then do a little test with your friends on facebook. Find two willing participants, Friend A and Friend B. Get Friend A to unfriend you (temporarily, I hope) and tag the Friend B in a recent photo (so you don't have to go far back into the other friends photo history), it can be any photo as this is only a test. Also make sure that Friend A has set the photo album settings to private. Then go and look at Friend B's photos. The album that's called Photos of Friend B. You will not find the photo that Friend A has tagged of Friend B. Guaranteed.

San on May 08, 2013:

does anyone know if we delete our account or photos if they will also be removed from that page?

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 08, 2013:

Yes Sora that is true. A friend who tags themselves or is tagged will not automatically make the image public, but it depends on their privacy settings. If they have their settings to public or friends of friends it allows your image to be seen on a far wider scale than you ever imagined.

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

Why are people saying they can see their child's photo on this page? These very same people probably didn't even know about the page until they read this article. And as the edit of this article states the page has been momentarily removed.

So, as I said, how are they seeing their child's photos on a Facebook page that doesn't exist?

And for those of you who have seen your child's photo on this page, well of course you are, it collects photos from any source that allows you to see it. Your own albums can't be hidden from yourself. What you need to do is get someone who is not friends with and ask what they see. THEY WILL NOT SEE YOUR CHILD UNLESS YOUR PICTURE SETTINGS ARE SET TO PUBLIC.

Also I'm not sure why this site states otherwise but even if your friends tag themselves into a photo doesn't mean it makes the photo public. It's still hidden and only who allow in the settings can see the photo but this time with an additional tag.

andy on May 08, 2013:

Did anyone even read my previous post :-S it doesn't matter what your privacy settings are strict super sctrict anyone can access your photos private or not via a Facebook app.. If you grant them access to your photos they can access your photos any time they want.. Its how Facebook works

think of any Facebook apps you use they could have distributed your photo around the internet anyway.. That's why you agree to Facebook terms and conditions that make your photos acessable and usable for free by everyone regardless of your privacy settings

Ben Birkett on May 08, 2013:

I'm not happy that you didn't ask my permission, to take my kids picture. It's not write and very worrying

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 08, 2013:

Everyone...remember that your settings may be private or custom, but are your friend's settings strict too? If not, through your friends, your images may be seen by their own friends etc... This is NOT new information. It is the way Facebook has always been. Don't shoot the messenger.

Stephanie Louise wotton on May 08, 2013:

This needs to stop now I have seen loads of photos on this page of my children.... It made me feel sick!! This need to be fix right away! Facebook has no right in doing this. This page also needs to be shut down right away! I can't sleep I fell that angry!

kay on May 08, 2013:

it is still wrong!! And my hotos don't even have the word baby anywhere in them, not desription, title, headline, nothing at all, so why are my children still on it?? My settngs are ALL custom, where i have deselected the friends of anyone tagged option, yet still, mine are on these pages? I am disgusted!!!

Take our children off, remove this 'topic' it is wrong.

i am very tempted to delete my entire account!

s.reid on May 08, 2013:

If the page is like another nrwsfeed then why has it had 4 different name in24 hours??? I will b deleting all my pictures of my daughter from my fb page an will not upload anymore i never asked 2 join this page so there shouldn't be any pic of my daughter on it

Andy on May 08, 2013:

just reading through and people are on about privacy.. but not a lot of people think about apps that they use check this article:

When you allow any Facebook application to access your account, you are giving them temporary (up to about 15 minutes) to access and use your data. For example, if I grant an application access to my Facebook wall data today, they can’t see it tomorrow. Unless… the app specified that they get access to my data at any time. In that case, they can see all my wall postsa and photos tomorrow, too. Without my consent then.

For the developer and whoever had the app made, they get a oAuth token that allows them to act as you on Facebook given the parameters of whatever you gave them access to. Their app requests a thing called “offline_access” in their code… which is exactly what it means. Access to your account when you’re not online.

your worrying about facebook sharing your pictures to sick people.. when probably half of you have gave sickos direct access to your photos any time you want.. im deleting all apps off my facebook i might even close my facebook account.. facebook have give anyone with a little technical knowledge full access to your photos anyway...

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

But if you have set your photo privacy to Friends then must mean you want your friends to see it. Also if you tag your friend in it then we must also believe that the person tagged is in the photo. Why would you want that tagged person who is in the photo not to be able to see that photo?

Also what's stopping said friends going onto your facebook page and then hunting through your photo albums?

Nothing. If you don't want people seeing your photos stop posting them up and delete the ones you have.

WorkAtHomeMums (author) from Australia on May 08, 2013:

Even if their settings are on friends it means all their friends can see the images. Anyone tagged can see the images. And so on and so on. Remove any tags and comments and delete the photos.

Xx on May 08, 2013:

Has anyone got the link please

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

H and Shell.

If I was a parent I would still understand as I know how computers work.

Also H, how is your Ex still seeing the photos, the page has been temporarily removed. Also from the sound of it you are not on talking terms with him so how would you have found out.

I really wish I could still see the page to prove that you are wrong. But the only way to do that would be to take a screenshot AND THAT WOULD BE INVADING ON OVER PEOPLE'S PRIVACY. I would consider doing it for the Dog page but there is no way for me to post pictures anyway so there's no point.

Also Susan Kemly, you can delete the photos, just go into your photo album and delete them there.

And last but by no means least, thank you Ellie. You give me hope in the Human Race again.

Susan Kemley on May 08, 2013:

If this page is so innocent then give us the option to delete our pics ourselves if we don't want them on here we can delete lots of other things so why not our photos

Ellie on May 08, 2013:

If you can see a random stranger's pics on "that page" it's because that random stranger has set THEIR pics to PUBLIC.

If YOU have set YOUR pics to FRIENDS ONLY, then ONLY YOUR FRIENDS will see your pics when they go to "that page". How hard is that to understand?

I still think all these outraged comments are funny, and I just can't believe the utter stupidity of some of them.

I'm NOT a sicko, or a weirdo, or twisted, or small minded, I am a 60 year old grandmother. Just calm down people, and stop making yourselves look like complete and utter idiots. OK?

Donna on May 08, 2013:

Yes Amy it bothers me too but not to the extent where im going nuts about it...... Say for instance i uploaded a naked picture of my boyfriend and labeled it 'babe-baby-bbe' none of YOU people on this blog would see that picture, only my friends would! If they say that only my friends see it then only my friends see it, however if my friends wanted to look thru MY baby pictures then they can without FB deciding what pictures of mine to add and what not if that makes sense, im far from happy but what can we do about this, probably nothing other than take all our pictures down and go over to twitter!! FB causes far to many problems over the las few years, is it worth it...... Im seriously considering closing down and heading over to there i im honest :-/

morgan on May 08, 2013:

even if it is a program algorithm or anything like that it should not be on there my neices have appeared on there and i no both of them have there privacy settings high and its veiwable to everyone on the page as people have noticed people they aint even affiliated with. Privacy settings are supposed to be there to stop these kind of things why is facebook making programs to take baby pictures its against human rights no matter how many of u on here think people are being stupid and shouldn't put pics up if they don't want them seen you people are the ones who need your heads checking i don't have a child and im appalled at what its doing the pic of my sis half naked jus after giving birth isd not something she wants circulating round other pages its for Friends and Family to look at under no circumstances can anyone justify what there doing for one there children they can't fight for themselves and kick up a fuss about it can they if facebook doesn't sort this problem they will be gettin a big ass lawsuit from a lot of angry parents

Shell on May 08, 2013:

I don't care what it states its a joke, shouldn't be happening. People have set them to private but there's children's pictures are still ended up on this site, in one respect it's a laughing matter cuz it's an absolute joke that this can be acceptable, those of you who aren't parents shouldn't even have the right to comment on this thread, cuz if the boot was on the other foot maybe then you might understand.!!!

gemma on May 08, 2013:

Not happy atall remove all pics NOW!!!!

anon on May 08, 2013:

Where can you find the pictures to see of mine are on there?

unhappy on May 08, 2013:

if this is a fb related page then why don't they (fb) just take it down to stop upsetting us all.......OR its not fb related crap cos its in a new name now and again all my private set pics....not friends set that's PRIVATE SET pics have turned up again and with ppl I have no connection with at all I do not want to see half dressed kids thanks so take the pages down NOW

Amy on May 08, 2013:

You can see random babies on here cause they are pictures your friends might have uploaded with the word baby on them!

I am

Bothered that my pictures are being used like this but none of the pictures are in any way showing my son without suitable clothing, they are neither indecent or sexual.

Bronwyn on May 08, 2013:

I think it is disgusting as we can see strangers pics so if we can see there's they can see ours I don't can what you say.....if we wanted all to see our pics we would have put them up for all to see... You need to take them off you have no right to take anyone's pics without there permission invasion of privacy....take down this page everyone is outraged by this so take it down....unhappy...

Sora Pilgrim on May 08, 2013:

I'm really sorry, actually I'm not, but anyone who says that this 'page' needs to be taken down is an idiot. That's right I'm calling you a fool. I can even explain why.

Do you understand?

This is just a generated page based on your news feed. If your friends or family post a picture and tag it or describe it with the word baby it will appear here.

Think of it like this:

We both do a search on our OWN computers for files linked to Babies.

Our results will differ massively.

I have Baby photos of my baby Niece

You may have Baby Photos of your child or relatives.

Why would you see my photos if they are on my machine and vice versa?

You wouldn't.

The same is happening on this page, it's just searching through facebook and putting it in one place. Now if you have set your profile to private and made sure that all your photos have the update privacy settings but you still feel that "PEDOS" will be able to see your photos then you're going to have to start unfriending people. Because only people you friends with via Facebook can see these photos, so therefore you believe some of your friends must be "PEDOS".

Now if you're still screaming "I DON'T CARE TAKE THIS PAGE DOWN STILL" here is the next thing I'm going to tell you.

Delete your account.

If you're so worried about this somehow leaking then everything you post is at risk.

At least don't post any photos up and the same goes for other websites.

Law is still not set on who owns what in a digital domain so invest in External Hard Drive and backup your photos the old fashion psychical way.

Very unhappy mum on May 08, 2013:

I hav jst bn informed by my friend about this page. I was very upset to hear that there was scan photos of my baby boy who was sadly born asleep almost a year ago on it. This is absolutely disgusting that there is photos of babies that have been posted without the parents consent. I don't care what any1 thinks, in my opinion its wrong and an invasion of privacy. I hav my facebook private and only allow my friends and family access to my private and personal stuff. I am glad this page has been shut down!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dani on May 08, 2013:

I find it very funny that some people on here are saying its the mums fault that their children photos showed up on the page either they don't have kids themselves and don't have a clue or are plain stupid

My children were on that page and I didn't give permission for them to be, all my photos are private and are there so family/ friends can see them and incase I lose my other copies I will always want them somewhere

I think it is very cold for people to be saying mothers are stupid for panicking simply because of the world and technology we live in now, you can do anything with technology and pedos know this

I don't care what this article says I was horrified to see the pictures and the police were also informed from a friend of mine who said they had been getting several calls tonight about the page and that it WAS a threat which they were dealing with

If you can't understand why mothers have panicked then don't open your mouths it is ridiculous to even say anything and call a mum stupid for panicking over there own children YOU are the ones who need to get a grip

I could see photos of people's children who said they were private who I don't have on Facebook so obviously this article isn't stating the whole fact
