Vending Machine Panties?

Japanese Panties Vending Machine

Japanese Panties Vending Machine

Exactly who came up with the idea originally to sell panties in a vending machine I am not usre but they are sold that way in Japan. Here is North America it is difficult to imagine driving up to a gas station running inside and picking up a few impulse items, passing a few humming pop machines filled with coca-cola and other beverages and see a machine beside those selling women's panties. It would leave most scratching their heads to say the least. After all who would need to randomly buy a pair of panties?

To dispel the unusual nature of it I can only guess that due to the sheer number of shoppers in a place like Tokyo, Japan and the population density it is so much more difficult for cashiers to handle everyone in store that automated machines are the only way to help with the load of people. One thing to keep in mind is that for every 23 people in Japan there is one vending machine.

Check out the sneaker vending machine below it's well known to Japan but fairly new to Europe.

The history of the vending machine and their uses today is very interesting on both counts. Many of the worlds most unusual vending machines happen to be in Japan where high traffic areas generate high levels of revenue every year. Below are just a few examples of the thriving industry of vending machines. From live creatures, flowers, meat, eggs, toilet paper, umbrellas and electronics and also women's panties.

Vending machines have made serious advancements in the past decade and many of the advance ones are known as Automatic retail Kiosks. Many of these have touch screens and dispense items such as electronics, I-pods, DVDs and other items. Due to the more expensive items these machines are capable of accepting cash, credit cards and debit cards.

Some vending machines now made to hold live creatures have been very carefully made to keep said creatures alive. Some of these machines hold things like live lobster or live bait for fishermen. In some cases the live lobster vending machines are set up much like the classic claw arcade style game but instead of plush toys you get to catch live lobsters.

In some areas businesses wish to allow people to buy their products when their store is closed this is what prompted such vending machines to hold DVDs, electronics, even I-pods, and sometimes bookstores will have a book vending machine outside their doors.

How often have you been extremely hungry and ran to a vending machine for something only to see pop candy and occasionally food that looks like someone already ate it? Now there are vending machines that will cook fries, burgers and other snacks right in the machine, made fresh without a single human hand!

That pretty much covers it. I don't have a picture for this last bit of info but if your curious about it look it up. During the 1950s - 1970s many airports used to have vending machines that would dispense life insurance policies for travelers before they boarded, just in case something happened.

ilymsvicky - I know what you mean it is hard to imagine someone needing a fresh pair of panties at random, walking down the street or where we would normally see vending machines I can't imagine anyone stopping to buy panties. But maybe it is a bit different there I guess.

I think vending machines are cool. I am one of the few that stop at the vending machines to get my coffee each morning rather than walking all the way to the cafeteria. I'm sure with the hussle and bussle lifestyle in Japan they are in great need for vending machines for general merchandise. But panties? What woman needs a fresh pair of panties all out of the blue, hmmmmm? LOL

Interesting hub. The guy that came up with the idea for the Sub Marine Catcher was one twisted dude. I'd love to try it but I can't see them coming to England any time soon.

I think the machines with the claw to catch live lobster are amazing. My daughter used to be obsessed with these machines and we spent many a fifty pence piece trying to 'win' her a plush toy. As for panties in a vending machine...what next?
