A Samsung sound bar is a great way to add some kick to your TV's audio without having to go all-in and get a full-blown surround sound system, which could result in you having to hang five or even seven speakers. Samsung sound bars are relatively painless to hook up, and even support HDMI pass-through so you can route sound from a video device directly through the sound bar and into the TV. Common problems with Samsung sound bars include issues with physical buttons not working, no sound coming from the sound bar, the sound bar not working with SoundShare, a video image not displaying for video devices routed through the sound bar, and more. Use troubleshooting to see if you can resolve these issues on your own before you reach out to costly professionals for help.

Controls Not Working

If you find yourself pushing any of the physical control buttons located on the Samsung sound bar and those buttons aren't responding, you may be experiencing an issue with static electricity. To resolve this, disconnecting the power cable that connects to the back of the sound bar, waiting 30 seconds, and then reconnecting. Additionally, test other buttons on the sound bar to make sure the issue isn't with just one specific button.

No Sound

  • Ensure that the audio cables connected to the Samsung sound bar are connected to both the correct outputs on the source device and to the correct inputs on the sound bar. More and more devices (the Xbox One, for example) have multiple HDMI connectors -- one serving as an input and another serving as an output -- and it's important to make sure you're connected to the right one.
  • Make sure none of the connectors are loose.
  • It sounds silly, but make sure the Samsung sound bar isn't muted and that the volume is turned up.
  • Make sure the sound bar is set to play audio from the appropriate input.

Remote Control Not Working

  • Ensure there are no objects between the remote control and the Samsung sound bar. You should have a clear path between the two devices.
  • Try changing the batteries in the remote control. Alternatively, ensure that the batteries currently in the remote control aren't loose. If the batteries in the remote control are loose, re-seat them and try again.
  • Ensure that you're within the range where the remote control can communicate with the Samsung sound bar. The suggested range by Samsung is 15 feet.

Sound Bar Won't Pair with SoundShare

  • Just because there is a SoundShare button on the remote control for your audio device doesn't mean your TV supports it. SoundShare is a feature that's only available on Samsung TVs. Check your TV to make sure it also has the SoundShare functionality.
  • Even if your TV supports SoundShare, if the firmware on your Samsung TV is outdated the feature may not work through your Samsung sound bar. Update the firmware on your Samsung TV and try activating the SoundShare feature again.
  • There may be an internal issue. Try switching between different modes on your TV and try using SoundShare again.

Speaker Audio Reversed

If the left and right speakers on your Samsung sound bar sound like they're reversed, there's a good chance you got the wires crossed at some point when you were hooking things up. Check the audio cables connecting the sound bar and the source device and ensure that everything lines up.

Picture Not Appearing on TV for Device Routed Through Sound Bar

The Samsung sound bar (like the Xbox One) also has HDMI IN and and HDMI OUT connectors. If you're routing a video device through the sound bar and to your TV, ensure that all of the cables are firmly connected and also that they are connected to the right place. For example, you'd need to connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT on your video device, and then connect the other side of that cable to the HDMI IN on the audio device. From there you would need to connect one end of another HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT on the speaker, and the other end of that cable to the HDMI IN on the TV.

Hollie Crowell on March 07, 2018:

Our sound bar tends to be off from the actual mouth talking on the tv screen. They are not in sync and we have to turn the tv off and wait a few seconds. It usually syncs up after that.

I have a samsung HW-J450, it was working fine for the last 2-3 years but last week it kept changing from D.In (which is plug in) to bluetooth, displaying "utv3 r43" error code, i tried to plug in in hdmi and keeps doing the same thing, tried changinf cables (both hdmi and digital) tv setting are good and xbox settings too...

Max Dalton (author) from Greater St. Louis, Missouri on February 05, 2018:

It sounds like it lost the Bluetooth connection. Maybe the device you were listening to connected to another Bluetooth device you were paired with and dropped your sound bar.

Sound from bar does not match lips on Tv

Max Dalton (author) from Greater St. Louis, Missouri on September 18, 2017:

Hi Brady. Check the audio out settings on your TV. Make sure you actually have your cables connected to an audio in section on your sound bar and an audio out output on your TV. It sounds silly, but you may just have the cables connected in the wrong place. Also, make sure you're set up to play sound from the audio input you're connected to on your sound bar. I hope that helps.

Some programs come through soft so we turn it up, then the commercials blast you out! Some commercials are softer, but not all. Is there a way to adjust it so the sound is the same all the time? I'm tired of continually turning the sound up and down.

Hello. My sound bar stopped playing sound, and only is displaying a search option. Please help.

Max Dalton (author) from Greater St. Louis, Missouri on March 14, 2017:

Hi Donald. Can you tell me a bit more about the circumstances? Also, are you experiencing this if you connect the sound bar to another TV?

Max Dalton (author) from Greater St. Louis, Missouri on March 14, 2017:

That would be one starting point. Is the problem the same for all audio inputs? I'm only asking because if you're only experiencing this with an over-the-air antenna and you just moved to a new place, the signal probably just isn't good. Do you have another TV you can connect it to? I'd try that first before you spend any money.

Jamie on March 08, 2017:

Sound bar intermittently turns itself on and off. Will not stay on for an extended period of time. Does the power cord need to be replaced? Worked well in my condo. It is awful since the move into my new home. Everything else is in working order. When it's working it sounds great! Suggestions.
