A technology develops when scientific knowledge applies to creating a piece of equipment or machine for practical purposes by engineers. A revolution occurs in the industry when a new technology development or up-gradation takes place. The 21st century is the century that will witness many advanced technological developments in various industries. It will reduce human errors and make the process faster.

5G / 6G / 7G

Earlier we used to compare the speed of light & the speed of sound, but the 21st century will compare the speed of light with the speed of 54/6G/7G as it progresses to the next generation of internet speed. 5G will revolutionize the communication and connectivity speed of electronic devices, thereby improvising the data transmission much quicker in every sector. 4G made internet voice & video calling smoother, but yet to clear the hurdle of IoT, which 5G speed will emulate & make things work at the global level thereby helping various sectors like healthcare, defense & education. 6G/7G will witness tremendous up-gradation in electronic devices with impacting end products like self-driving cars, robot-supported surgeries in the health sector, manufacturing lines, supercomputers, data processing through other planets, and boosting AI & IoT to the next level. By the 2050s 7G/8G technology would be rolled out as per IEEE’s Future Directions. Every electronic device will wirelessly connect and communicate with each other and of course process the information much more rapidly sooner or later.

As the name suggests IoT – Internet of Things, Things that are connected through the internet. The things or devices like smartphones, computers, appliances, electronic items, or any gizmo addressing each other through the internet wirelessly to be precious. The backbone of IoT is the speed of the internet & its information processing hardware like semiconductors, bridges, and sensors to name a few of them. The IoT came into the limelight after 3G/4G network technology. 5G/6G/7G will make this thing possible and much better way.

AI – Artificial Intelligence

AI is where the machine learns itself. With time and past responses to the type of user input commands. Many players like food delivery apps, and cab-hailing apps use machine learning. To make a machine intelligent there has to be lots of space to store the data and process it at the same time and understand the patterns of information processed. The Machine changes the algorithm itself to make the result more favorable and desirable. For example – showing you ads based on your search & interest patterns on the internet, self-driving cars, robots processing your commands and understanding the requirement – December 2021 – BBC News statement – a lot of tech companies are developing robots that can cook meals. In 2021, the First whole-time robotic chef able to cook 5000+ dishes was developed by Molay Robotic system with a team of over 100 engineers. A glimpse of AI can be already found in many sectors. High network speed & electronic hardware would make this feature more commanding.

In the 21st century, it would be unfair to not talk about robots & their developments while talking about the latest technology. Though they came into existence in the 20th century, in production lines throughout and rigidly programmed. The concept aroused from the talking puppets mechanically operated talking animals, or folks in theaters & entertainment shows. Further, with the introduction of sensors, the movements & actions became sensor-based which were combined with programming. In 1991, Cyberknife – an FDA-approved robot-assisted surgery appliance was installed at Stanford University. In 1997, Sojourner – a bot functioning nonstop for 83 days on the surface of Mars planet, thereby navigating the surfaces, routes & obstacles. In 1997, IBM’s Deep Blue Computer, a programmed bot, defeated Garry Kasparov the great world chess champion. Since the 2000s, AI (Artificial Intelligence) based smart bots are making a way in every commercial sector and home is digitally programmed. In 2011, Robonaut 2 – a humanoid bot helping astronauts in space on STS- 133 mission. With AI combined with IoT makes the robot learn themselves and make responses & actions much smarter. From cooking, cleaning, and assisting at home to helping in medical surgeries & production lines, robots are assisting in every aspect thereby minimizing human errors & casualties. Nanobots or nanotechnology is the future of bots & will make tasks like delivering drugs to target tissues, killing cancer cells, collecting hazardous waste like plastic, electronics, and chemicals, and wirelessly transmitting health data to network computers.

3D Printing – a reverse engineering concept. The making of a product without wasting the material, without compromising the quality and strength, and being cost-effective at the same time, that’s the 3D printing. A remarkable example would be the GE – Aviation engineering expert - of developing a temperature sensor, combustors to name a few were developed by 3D printing technology. The complex components which were expensive, time-consuming & difficult to develop were developed by 3D printers in a cheap, quick, and easy manner. The materials like plastic, resins, metals, graphite, carbon fiber, and Nitinol are some of the popular materials used in 3D printers. SLA-1 was the first commercial 3D printer launched & patented by Charles Chuck Hill, a 3D systems corporation in the 1980s. According to fortune business insights – By 2029, the worldwide 3D printing market will cross USD 83.90 billion. By 2050, it would cross USD 200+ billion dollars & at large in the manufacturing sector. 3D printing - One of the imperative pioneers in the fourth revolution of the manufacturing era.

Electric Vehicles – The Only Future

Electric Vehicles (EV) are the only best future option available if the world wants to achieve zero pollutants through vehicles. The EVs adoption is growing fast due to an increase in other fuel prices. The EVs per KM cost is 70% to 80% less than other conventional fuels used as of date. The global EV light-duty vehicle market is expected to cross 30% share & worth $80 trillion by the year 2050. Early innovations happened in the 1800s by an English inventor – Mr. Robert Anderson & in the 1900s by US Inventor – Mr. William Morrison. With other fuel prices soaring high & meet the “Race to Zero by 2050” pledge by the UN (United Nations), likewise supported by many institutions, thereby making an impact on global climate change. The major effect would be on the logistics & transportation costs, which could reduce the prices of goods right away. With government schemes & climate change awareness programs the EVs adoption could become faster.

Self-driving cars

Driverless cars are something you’ll witness in taxis sooner or later. A combination of AI, IoT, and high-speed network 5G/6G/7G will make this thing possible & have a pleasurable experience. Self-driving cars would reduce accidents, and casualties. In the modern era, Google and Tesla, are the first birds in the implementation of the concept in real life, and not far behind is the Jaguar developing self-learning car. In 2021, Bloomberg Quicktake: Now presented AutoX innovation, Robotaxi driverless service which has begun to provide a complete service without drivers in China. According to the Guardian – In 2022, Google’s Waymo – is offering a Driverless ride-hailing service in San Francisco & will upgrade in the major parts of the United States of America. The sensors are installed around the body of the car and communicate with the systems every millisecond, making the change speed, acceleration, and stopping smoothly. At present these models are at level 4 & level 5 certified and are capable to travel predefined routes and roads. By 2050, cars will have more intelligence, precessions & acceptability among roads and people.

Mivan Formwork System in Construction

An Aluminum formwork, shuttering comprising precast walls, columns, and slabs, and popularly known as MIVAN Technology. Since it was developed & used in the 1990s by MIVAN company ltd in Europe. The concrete is filled altogether wherein the columns, slabs, & walls consist of steel & concrete components which give excellent 3s – Strength, Safety, Speed. The major advantage is the time taken to complete the total construction in high-rise buildings becomes very less (casting of 3 slabs in a month is possible) compared to conventional wooden shuttering. The shuttering set can be reused at least 100-150 times without any maintenance, thereafter shutters, plates & bars get somewhat misaligned & deformed, which can be rectified and reused again but gives output with a less finished surface. No brickwork is involved in full MIVAN construction, hence no plaster-work either. Key considerations include uniform layout design, higher initial cost, visible finish lines, and avoidable cracks during casting. Global adoption of technology is growing by 20-30% year-over-year in residential buildings and government projects.
