But today, LinkedIn is much more than building your personal brand.

However, unlike other social media platforms, you have to be careful when posting content on LinkedIn. The strategies and tactics you use on other social media networks don't apply here.
In this article, I'm going to share a few important things you should avoid and follow while writing a LinkedIn post. This will help you give your LinkedIn profile a much-needed boost and make it more search-friendly.
So, without any further ado, let me tell you some of these important things you should keep in mind before hitting the 'Post' button:
1. Be Professional Yet Creative
The number one prerequisite you should keep in mind before publishing any content is staying professional.
The text, image, or video you are going to share should be in a professional tone. The images should also have consists decent fonts, not too vibrant colors, etc.
While writing in professional tone is important, it doesn’t mean you should compromise in creativity. There is a very minute line of difference between being professional and being formal.
You can try to make your post look creative and unique. But make sure overall, it looks professional. So, while creating a post, you should remember to keep it in a professional yet creative manner.
2. Stay Away from Controversial Topics
While creating content for LinkedIn, make sure you avoid writing on any controversial topics.
Although your opinion or thoughts on these topics could matter on other social media platforms, it simply isn’t recommended for LinkedIn.
It is not the ideal platform where you should share those types of posts. In fact, you should also avoid interacting with such content on the platform.
You should try to connect with people in your niche or industry. This will help you gain knowledge and become an expert in your field. It will further help you build your network.
3. Avoid Redundancy in Your Posts
The way you start your LinkedIn post matters the most.
It is the first thing that your connections will look at while scrolling through the feed. Hence, you should make sure it doesn’t have any redundancy words or phrases.
Redundancy in writing simply means a text that seems complex and common in nature.
I’ve personally noticed this thing and even I did it myself in the beginning. While sharing a post, I used to start by saying ‘Good morning’, ‘Hello’, or any other such common greetings.
For most people, this would look very common and they might not be fully interested to read your complete post, even if you've spent hours writing it down.
In the long run, it might hurt your LinkedIn profile reputation. So, you should avoid redundancy in your posts.
4. Don't Write Too Many Personal Posts
Being a professional networking platform, LinkedIn is mostly loved by people who mostly share work and life-related content in general.
Unless you're a noted influencer or expert in your field, you should not share away from your life's story all the time.
You should refrain from writing too many personal posts about your life and struggle. However, as personal branding is getting more popular these days, many influencers and aspiring ones tend to reveal more of their personal lives.
Doing this continuously may put your privacy at risk and also recuiters who is looking for people like you will not appreciate this thing.
People tend to network with only those professionals who mostly share work-related content on LinkedIn.
5. Don't Stuff Too Much Information in a Single Post
While writing a LinkedIn post, remember not to include every piece of information in a single post. Let the user consume content inch by inch, without making them feel overburdened with information.
If you have too much information to share, you can divide your post into two parts. Sharing two related posts will help you build and create curiosity among the reader.
But you have to keep in mind a few things while writing such types of posts
- You have to grab the reader's attention with an impactful story. Stories are the easiest way to make your content relatable and effective.
- Make sure to use the maximum character limit of the post.
- Don't give away all the information in the first post. Try to build an interesting and suspense story that will make the reader check out your second post as well.
- Save the most important part of the second post.
