The Zenith integrated stereo system model “IS-4041” is made up of a turntable, a deluxe AM/FM stereo receiver, cassette single deck, and stereo 8-track player. This model “IS-4041” was the state of the art music machine in its day. Add Zenith Allegro speaker systems such as two speakers Zenith Allegro 2000 and any other two quality speakers and your four speaker sound system is ready to blow the door off the house. What I used for the other two speakers in my setup are two classic old school Sony speakers, and you have a sound system that is beyond comparison. The four channel sound system was impossible to beat.
This classic Zenith Integrated Stereo System, model was manufactured in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. Part of the secret of this remarkable system is the Zenith Allegro tuning port speaker designs. It lets out the riches sounds, and remarkable tones that the other brands and types of speakers simply trap inside. In fact the Allegro Speakers work so efficiently the comparable size speakers of other brands that are suspension designs need fully twice the amplifier power to equal and Zenith's overall sound performance.
But there is more to great sound than great speakers these Zenith models give you a solid-state amplifier for cool, reliable operations. A HI-FI filter to reduce noise and distortion on older records, and tapes or even weak AM and FM stations. I found an advertisement online from the 1980s where this model was on sale for $249.95 which is an amazing bargain.
The turntable on the Zenith Allegro IS4040 is truly amazing; it has a genuine diamond needle that flips to LP for your 33 speeds, and 45s, and on the other side is a special cut diamond for 78 speeds. The made in Britain turntable plays all three speeds 33, 45 and 78. The Zenith interrogated deluxe AM/FM stereo receiver is tuned to perfection. With a state of the art Zenith 8 track player made in America, and is also an 8 track recorder with fast forward, pause, and program changes built into the wood finish deck.
Glow Worm, The Mills Brothers Greatest Hits, Dot Records.
The Zenith made cassette player also is a recorder with counter. This unit first hit the market for the Christmas season in 1979. Most electronic stores sold out before Thanksgiving of that year and this system was on back order up until 1981in many department stores across North America and Europe.
Also this great system features smooth interactions between the AM/FM stereo, cassette recorder, and a European designed BSR record changer. It has "tape out" and "aux in" jacks, outputs for two pairs of speakers and an un-switched AC outlet. A ceramic cartridge with diamond and sapphire stylist. An 8 track tape player with record and automatic level control, pause and fast forward with the same smart features in the cassette tape player.
Needless to say it is a must have for any vintage electronics collector. These units can still be found on EBay and sell from $95.00 to $350.00 depending on condition and if speakers are included.
Cassette Tape of Orff: Carmina Burana Played on a Zenith Stereo System
This Zenith Integrated Stereo System was made in the late 1970s and early 1980s, in those days this model would sale for $299.95 without the speakers. It features AM/FM stereo, cassette recorder, a BSR record changer, and a Zenith 8 track player. This unit has outputs for two pairs of speaker.
These vintage speakers added to this Zenith system have some of the best mid-range sounds I've heard regardless of era they were produced. The balance between the highs and lows is wonderful to hear and feel. The bass is big in the 2000 series Allegro Zenith speakers and satisfying especially when you add the Sony 1960s speakers in the mix.
South Sea Island Magic, Played on a Zenith Stereo.
With the Zenith Allegro speakers, and Sony speakers attached to this Zenith stereo system you have four channels of sound with a front and a rear speaker matrix. With the awesome original Allegro 4000 speakers in front and Sony speakers in rear you have a mellow, smooth, and deep soulful sound system. It is truly amazing, even at very at low volume levels, you can feel the warm soothing sound. In the higher volume, you neighbors would probably be calling the local law enforcement agency.
Being an armchair enthusiast of great music I know just enough about vintage electronics to love the Zenith Allegro product line from the golden age of Zenith systems of sound. These sound systems and speakers were the last handmade, well made, made with pride, and made in America stereo systems. Just like the vintage Curtis Mathes, Magnavox, RCA and Admiral stereo and speaker products from the 1950s to the 1980s this are no longer being made anywhere in this world.
Paper Doll, The Mills Brothers, Played on a Zenith Stereo System IS-4041
When you add this set of vintage Sony speakers model S 485. You know you are heading to a world of beautiful sound. Both these vintage 1960s era speakers are music warriors. The cabinet measurements approximately: 11.5" x 17.5". these speakers with the Zenith Allegro 4000 speakers produce a sound that is magical.
