I learned the art of frugality from a Depression Era survivor. Join me in learning how to live on less. Save money, have fun, and be secure.
Having recently purchased the Sharp LC-26DV27UT 26" LCD TV/ DVD combo, my perspective on a number of things is quite positive. In short, this is a superb television. I was interested in image quality, affordability, and ease of function. On all three counts my expectations were exceeded by this sharp high definition tv.
The screen lights up with 720p HDTV. The color is very strong and vivid - a feature that is most impressive. The response time is outstanding. For TV signal and DVD, there has been no hesitation at all. I owned a CRT TV and bought this one when it fell apart. I waited too long to buy this new Sharp flat screen. Not only is the color outstanding, it is sharp and crisp.
My new Sharp LC-26DV27UT is connected to a VHF/UHF antenna on the roof of my covered patio. On first start up, I immediately got more channels scanned than I had with the old set. The internal tuner has enabled me to view more channels than ever. If you have cable, simply connect it to your home coaxial cable and the TV. The connection is on the back on the right side of the input/output area.
There is an auto setup feature that kicks in the first time the TV dvd combo is powered up. I found that the default settings were most excellent; there seemed no need to adjust anything. I can use the remote anywhere in my living room. This Sharp lcd 26 is usually purchased for bedroom use, but my living room is smaller than some and the unit is more than capable. If you are looking to downsize from an lcd 32 or lcd 37 for the bedroom, this Sharp lc will satisfy your need.
There has been no problem with the audio. In most 26" HDTV sets, it is not unusual to read about complaints that the volume isn't high enough. That is, at 100% volume it is difficult for some people to hear with background noise. I have found that at 75% volume within 12' is plenty clear for me. There is input/output for surround sound speakers if desired.
One other feature that I appreciate is the friendly design of the remote. I would venture to say that most people would be able to operate the remote with little need to consult the manual. When the manual was consulted for info on view modes, the instructions for setting by remote were excellent.
The LCD panel is built with glare protection. There seems to be no problem with sun pouring in a window and bouncing off the screen. I have 3 standard windows and a patio sliding glass door and all of them undraped do not affect the picture. The hd tv dvd is also equipped with a V-CHIP for concerned parents.
The Sharp LC-26DV27UT can be used as a PC monitor. It is equipped with a receptacle for a 15 pin mini D sub-connector (standard monitor connection). Audio can be hooked up with a stereo mini-jack cable (standard computer audio connection). In addition to playing DVDs, the TV DVD combo can playback MP3/WMA/JPEG files. This enables the viewer to listen to music cds, watch slide shows, or view single photo images.
As for affordability, the Sharp LC-26DV27UT can be had for less than $400. This is great value when compared to other HDTV combos which can range in price up to $800.
The Sharp lcd hd tv is 9 9/16" deep, which obviously takes up a lot less room than the old CRT. I can get behind the set easily with the same entertainment center I have owned for years.
My center measures about 3 ' x 4' x 1 1/2'. This set would fit nicely on a wider or taller piece of furniture. When guests come to the house, to my surprise, the Sharp tv dvd combo is what they see first, not the old clocks and tile flooring. The set is framed in a glossy black plastic and is very elegant in style. There is a stand which requires 8 screws to connect post to base to TV. And, this requires only 2 sentences and a drawing in the manual - it's a snap.
In my opinion, the Sharp LC-26DV27UT is the beste 26 lcd tv on the market. If you want a great picture, want the combo to look good, and want a remote and manual that are easy to use, the Sharp LC-26DV27UT can't be beat!
