VN250 Problems & Solutions

I have had a couple of minor issues with the LG Cosmos VN250 phone. So far there have been 2 problems, one related to charging and the other related to the interface freezing when trying to save a picture. Here is a description and solution to those problems.

LG Cosmos Charging Problem - We had a couple of instances where the phone did not seem to charge. Turns out the USB power connector can be a little tricky. We found this out because we plugged in the phone to charge it overnight and the next day there was no charge. This happened on the wall charger but I suppose it could happen on the PC Charger as well.

Turns out the connector is touchy sometimes but the simple solution is to make sure when you plug in the phone to the charger that the battery icon in the upper right hand side is charging when you put the phone down. By slightly wiggling the connector until the icon shows charging seemed to do the trick.

If you don't know what I mean by the batter icon charging it is an animated icon of the battery at different levels or charge to make it look like the icon is filling up. It looks like the batter is filling up from bottom (left) to top (right). Since we have done this there have been no problems.

LGVN250 Frozen Interface - While trying to save a picture to the SD memory card, the phone seemed to freeze. We could not make a call, receive a call or get any of the buttons do do anything. The front just showed the words "Saved to Card" and would not update.

We tried powering the phone off but none of the buttons worked. Tried charging the phone by plugging it into a PC. No effect. Could not make or receive a call. It was just frozen and none of the keys did anything. We tried different combination's of buttons but that had no effect. Problem was this happened on a Sunday night after the store closed so we could not get any help from a technician. We were expecting an important call and were desperate.

Here's what worked; (Warning I do not know if this will damage your memory card or phone interface. I am only telling you what worked for us. Please consult your LG representative to seek out other solutions.)

  1. Unplug the MicroSim card
  2. Hit and hold the End/Pwr button until phone powers off
  3. When power is off, replace MicroSim Card
  4. Repeat step 2 until phone powers on.

This worked for us. Seemed to save the picture so there was no lost data and other features of the phone worked OK. My sense is this would be fixed as part of an update for the software. I have no idea if this may cause problems but it was a desperate situation. I'll need to look into this and see if there is a more elegant solution.

Anybody else had problems with this Phone? If you fixed them let use know.

Post them in the comments below so we can keep using our phones!

Over the Air Software Update

Here's a new tid bit that may help a few people.  Turns out you can do an over the air software update for the Cosmos VN250.  Procedure looks simple and can be done where ever there is coverage.

Above is the link but for those who don't want to click, here's the process, right from the manual

Manual Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) upgrade - LG Cosmos VN250

  1. Navigate Menu > Settings & Tools > Phone Info > Software Update > Check New.
If an error is received wait 3 minutes then retry.
  2. Press the center of the 5-way navigation pad to choose OK.
Software download will take 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Press the center of the 5-way navigation pad to choose OK.
Software download will take 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Press the center of the 5-way navigation pad to choose OK.

Good Luck and I hope this may help some of you.

Battery Drains Overnight

I recently came across someone who's phone was draining overnight. I've seen this question come up quite a bit here. It seems for some, if you have an SD Card and you are storing your wallpaper on the SD Card, the it tends to drain the battery. Seems some of the microSD cards and the VN250 OS don't play nice.

Suggested Fixes

If you have this problem, you have two options, get a new SD card or store your wallpaper on your phone. I've also seen hints of an update of software solving this problem too but I'm not as confident in that solution.

for the last 3 days my cosmo2 reads searching for service. I can not call out or receive calls texting is the same. I have been to Verizon store and like always they can't help they don't ask any questions just try to sale me a new phone. How can I fix this problem.

For some reason I didn't see this comment. This is probably a keyboard issue. Did you perhaps get some liquid on the phone? If so look up the rice trick to dry out your phone.

Tom T (author) from Orange County, CA on March 09, 2013:

@ Zach - sounds like the lifetime is up on your phone. If a firmware update doesn't solve your problem you probably need a new phone. I've had some success on Ebay but make sure you get a phone with a clean ESN (means it is not a stolen or lost phone.) Good luck.

Okay, i've had my cosmos (i think it's the original one) for like, 2 or 3 years. it never really had problems until about 6 months ago. It's very annoying. Every other message i receive is either all boxes or blank spaces. I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. It's pretty embarassing to have to ask friends to resend messages, and even more when you have to request that several times. I really don't know what's up. Should i just get a new phone?

denise82 on November 22, 2012:

I recently replaced the battery. Now when I use the keypad to text, the Z, B and N key provide a series of letters, numbers and symbols before the Z, B or N. I've been backspacing out the additional letters but I would love to fix this problem. Any ideas? Thank you!

Mine won't charge. I plugged it in today to find that it'll do the boot-up thing where it shows the verizon logo and pretend to turn on, then loop back. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in after waiting a bit. I've tried doing it without battery. still does it. anyone have a solution other than buying a new phone?

profsc on July 15, 2012:

Dropped my phone and the slider is now very loose and a little gold piece of metal (the spring?) now sometimes sticks out between the slider and the phone body. Is this something I can re-attach if I take the phone apart? How do you take the two pieces of the phone (slider, body) apart?

Thanks for any suggestions--

Bre on July 06, 2012:

My screen now turns a blue-ish color as well as flips the image backwards AND upside down. What should I do??

Tom T (author) from Orange County, CA on June 27, 2012:

@David G - If you use a photo as wallpaper on your main screen it will drain the battery real quick. As for the new battery, not sure what to say because if it is compatible should work. You could try removing it and resetting the battery.

Tom T (author) from Orange County, CA on June 27, 2012:

@Bre - My guess is that the battery is getting a little long in the tooth. 2 years is a good run for a battery. Probably need to replace the battery.

@Koda - Sounds like it is the end of the line for your phone. When odd things like shutting on/off and black screens appear, it is not likely a software issue nor a battery issue.

@ Mike - If you get water on your phone, all bets are off. Look up the rice trick and give it a try, It is you best shot other than a replacement.
