How to Use and Activate Globe Micro Sim for ipad 2 and 3

ipad 2 3G with wifi

ipad 2 3G with wifi

This hub is about how to activate and use Globe micro sim for the ipad 2 and 3. I mentioned 3 in advance because I’m gonna add it here anyway. When you don’t have a wifi, 3G network and 4G network is an amazing alternative especially while you’re on the road, or in a remote area. For Globe prepaid and postpaid subscribers, there are 2 ways on how to set the APN of the new ipad 2 to run the 3G and 4G network. Know them here.

So you are smiling like crazy and excited while unboxing your new ipad 2 with wifi and 3G or ipad 3 with wifi and 4G. Yeah you chose the latter because you knew you’re not always surrounded by wifi. And you are someone who is always on the go…camping, traveling sometimes planking. (laughs) Turning on your new gadget, you hit the internet already. How you are loving Safari so much but then it says, connection failed. And you realize you don’t have a wifi at home. Not a problem, that’s why you bought the ipad 2 with 3G in the first place or ipad 3 with 4G recently if you are so hip.

First let me tell you what you need to connect to the internet without wifi using your ipad 3g or ipad 4g. You’ll need a Globe micro sim. This is gonna be your best friend. Micro sim is different from the usual sim cards used to mobile phones. It’s micro and designed for tablets like that of the ipad 2. Some people though cut their sim cards to fit the sim tray of the ipad 2 3G or ipad 3 4G. For postpaid subscribers I think they give it for free. How much is the Globe micro sim? I bought mine just for 40 pesos. It’s Globe Tattoo microsim and can be used for call, text and internet. How cool! Instead of cutting your sim cards, why not buy a micro sim and use it to your ipad or iphone 4 right?

By the way, Globe is offering an ipad 3G plan of 999 with micro sim for postpaid. You will be having unlimited internet. Your 3G network is active all throughout the plan which expires after 2 years just like any other postpaid plan. But if you don’t prefer that, here are the ways on how to set your APN settings to keep your ipad 3G running and connecting to the internet. I know when ipad 3 is released here in the Philippines, Globe will definitely offer flexible plans for the ipad 3 with 4G too. And ipad 2 will be so lower in price for that matter.

How to activate 3G on the ipad 2:

There are 2 ways on how to activate your 4G and 3G in your ipad using Globe microsim.

First Option:

  1. Turn off Wi-fi before browsing using the Micro Sim (tap Wifi menu and turn it OFF)
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Reset then tap Reset Network Settings
  4. Tap Cellular Data
  5. Tap APN (Access Point Name)
  6. Type the following in the box
  • internet.globe.com.ph (for postpaid)
  • http.globe.com.ph (for prepaid)

It's also the same as how to activate 4G in the ipad 3.

Please remember that you have to repeat the steps every time you remove the sim from the tray. For prepaid users, there are PowerSurf services available to have unlimited internet browsing per day, or week or just use your regular load which consumes P5 per 15 minutes of surfing the web. If you want unlimited internet using 3G, bite the plan 999 for ipad 3g.

Second option:

Another way on how to activate the settings of ipad 2 3G is by downloading the Globe App for ipad. It’s available via itunes of course. There is also Globe App for iphone users. When you have the Globe App, you can activate your 3G network, check your load balance, and do other services available for Globe users.

How to Load your Globe MicroSim for ipad 2 and ipad 3

Jojo71 on October 03, 2012:

Is there any ipad apps for smart, i've seen one for globe and the icon is displayed in the screen?

twentyfive (author) on October 02, 2012:

you can go to Globe or Smart or Sun assistant center and retrieve it or you can just change your sim and replace it with another one.

jerome on September 27, 2012:

I lost my sim serial at the sim card, how can i retrive it using my ipad 3

twentyfive (author) on September 10, 2012:

roaming is for call and text, I'm not sure if Globe allows load for roaming outside the Philippines for the ipad. Anyway, wifi is everywhere especially to Canada and USA

Ramil on September 06, 2012:

hi. I m using iapd 2 with globe micro sim. Im going out of the country, can i still use it, or is there globe roaming for the globe microsim?

twentyfive (author) on August 29, 2012:

the ipad with 3G and 4G is not designed primarily for mobile functions reading the mobile number and storing contacts, exchanging data using the sim number. You can just buy an iphone in case you r main usage is for texting and calling. The 4g and 3G thing is just an additional feature in the ipad and using a SIM card is needed for that.

If you want to exchange SMS using sim number as your identification for contacts, you can use Skype SMS or Gtalk as an alternative or iMessage. With iMessage make sure though your contacts have iphone or ipad. Have a sweet day! :)

Love on August 28, 2012:

How can i send or read text messages using my sim number on my ipad 3 wifi 4g. Thanks

twentyfive (author) on August 23, 2012:

ipad 3 with 4G service is coming soon and will be available in the Philippines but it's gonna be via Smart LTE. I've made a page about that at philpad.com

Anyway, you can SMS, text or call anyone using services like Viber, Gtalk, Skype or simply use Facetime and iMessage in your ipad those 2 are automatically installed in your ipad 3

Happy on August 22, 2012:

Hindi po ba magagamit ang Ipad 3 4G na pangtext or pantawag that will be charged in our network (Globe) . Is there any hardware, application for that?

twentyfive (author) on August 21, 2012:

JeanGrey on August 18, 2012:

twentyfive (author) on August 01, 2012:

http.globe.com.ph for the APN settings..

thanks so much.. I'm now connected! ^__^

twentyfive (author) on July 05, 2012:

yes you still need wifi or internet in registering your number in the app. If you couldn't connect to the server, check your internet connection, maybe it's slow and intermittent..

SLimmy on July 05, 2012:

hey do i need internet pa ba pag mag register ng number ? nadownload ko na ung Glovbe service in ipad apps so pag nagreregister ako ng number ito lumalabas "Could not connect to the server"?? anu meaning nun? please help thnx!!

twentyfive (author) on July 04, 2012:

it's good for games too hey

ckanyuto on July 04, 2012:

i don't use my ipad. i have no use for it.

Jude on July 04, 2012:

you must add http. to your apn settings for it to work. ex http.globe.com.ph

not http://globe.com.ph

twentyfive (author) on June 21, 2012:

Maybe Supersurf 999 is not applicable for the new ipad Globe services. There is no official app or feature that let an ipad user to send SMS via regular cellphone number as it is an ipad not an iphone. The mobile platform doesn't run with it. And I don't see a point in installing one since it's a tablet. You can contact anyone by wifi or Globe internet service.

Niño Angelo on June 19, 2012:

Why is Supersurf 999 not in the list of services in the Globe iPad app? :) And how do you send text messages using the microsim? Like a regular phone not the iMessage/Skype/Viber app. :)

twentyfive (author) on June 14, 2012:

Yes you need to be connected to the internet in downloading the Globe Service App, wifi is the best way for this

Lol on June 14, 2012:

do you need to be connected to the internet to be able to register on their promo using globe services app?

twentyfive (author) on June 12, 2012:

Try switching OFF the power of your ipad then switch it ON again. Download the Globe Service App and activate your sim again. Globe just changed this more improved way of Microsim. After downloading, turn wifi Off and check if you can use your 3G already or 4G whatever you are using

tessa on June 11, 2012:

bkit gnun khit naactivate q na ung globe microsim q eh ndi pa din sya gumana,, ang lumalabas pa din ay"you have not activate cellular data network. you are not subscribe to a cellular data network... bkit po gnun? tpos unli na din po aq ng 1 day.. help nmn po... thanks

twentyfive (author) on June 10, 2012:

@Aspher yes you can use the ipad for call and txt even without a 3g or 4G. Just have the wifi and you can skype anyone or iMessage anyone. If you want to text someone using your sim number, you must have the ipad 2 with wifi and 3G or ipad 3 with wifi and 4G and insert the microsim in the tray

@Mix just connect to wifi if you don't have a sim.

Mix on June 09, 2012:

I don't no how to use ipad becouse i can't use conneting, don't has sim

L on April 19, 2012:

Using the prepaid micro sim that is inserted in the iPad 2, where can you type in or select when you want to register for unlimited internet?

twentyfive (author) on April 17, 2012:

@Leo Your ipad 3 runs in 4G so we have to wait from network service providers here to offer that. Actually ipad 3 is not yet released here in the Philippines. I was hoping this April but it looks like they will release it on May since their official website has no date yet compared to countries like Thailand and Malaysia, both are releasing ipad 3 on the last week of April. Globe was the one who released ipad 2 last time. I'm sure the plan for the 4G service is in the oven already. What we can do now is wait til they released ipad 3 in here. In the mean time, just use your wifi. :)

@Xang You can use Powersurf.Just type POWERSURF15 and send to 8888 (valid for 1 day for 1 hour of surfing) Powersurf 30, 50, 99, 299 and 499 are available too.

If you want to use unlimited internet surfing you can use Supersurf instead. Just type SUPERSURF50 and send to 8888

Supersurf 50 is valid for 1 day

Supersurf 200 is for 5 days

Supersurf 999 is for 30 days

Make sure your ipad's Cellular Data is turned on. Go to Settings to check it. Install M.Globe app to make it all easier for you :)

xang on April 17, 2012:

if you're using prepaid sim, how can you register to unlisurfing?

LEO18 on April 11, 2012:

HI, hope you can help me with this one

meron kasi ako ngaun na ipad3 wifi+4g from UK(maybe u need to know kung saan galing) nasync ko na sya but i am having difficulties connecting sa 3g. na follow ko na yung steps 1-6 and napalitan ko na din ung APN. di ko alam kung paano gagawin. this is my first time to have an apple device thanks

twentyfive (author) on April 11, 2012:

yes Rocky :) and now ipad 3 is here for the 4G so it's really awesome to have it too. LTE is so coming I know

Rocky on April 11, 2012:

That's right 3g is a good alternative.

twentyfive (author) on April 10, 2012:

Smart got the strongest signal everywhere especially now that they developed and added LTE networks. I don't always use a microsim for my ipad though because wifi is so strong naman. ipad 2 is so fast and connects easily to wifi what more the ipad 3 :) Globe is fast too but it's my second choice. Sun microsim, hmmm I think they still need to add more networks and coverage to stay at the top.

Ferniculous on March 31, 2012:

nice post. just bought ipad2 yesterday and i am searching the net on which microsims to use... globe, smart, or sun?? which is best? thanks.

twentyfive (author) on March 19, 2012:

@Pauu You can call someone using the ipad by having viber or just simply use Skype. Text using iMessage or just simply use Gtalk.

@Anabel hi. Try disconnecting any wifi connection. Then restart your ipad. Be sure you typed the correct APN name for prepaid if you are using prepaid plus you have enough load.

anabel on March 15, 2012:

i did those steps but it says:"you have not activate cellular data network. you are not subscribed to a cellular data service". i bought this micro sim from globe store this morning. my signal has already Globe signal but not functioning.

can i call and text with this??

did you check your wifi if it's on? hope you have fixed the thing

roseroie on February 08, 2012:

already activated my sim using globe apps for ipad using wifi... its so fast and i have already checked my balance. and also registered to a supersurf50 promo. all successfully registered as what the apps is displaying.it displayed my available load balance and my sim number on the main screen of the apps. I turned off my wifi and im very happy that I have already activated...when i got home from SM im so shocked to see that when I tried to connect to the internet...blag...there it was a word no NO CONNECTION ERROR...Globe what is that? I have tried what you have posted but to my dismay nothing really worked....

Cathy Nerujen from Edge of Reality and Known Space on January 12, 2012:

Wow, are they really no limit broadband? That is impressive. In UK they say there is no limit, subject to "fair usage" and not exceeding a certain amount of yada yada blaaah. LOL. The network there seems better. I will emigrate there.... can you recommend a place for me? Hehehe..... Mwaaaaaah. :D
