#1 Creating a hosting account

First of all, you need to create an Hostinger account which shouldn't take you more than five minutes. After doing this, you need to activate it by following the link in your email. When your account is finally verified, log-in and click on the Hosting tab. From it's sub-menu, select New account. A new hosting account would be loaded which would give you the type of account to choose from such as free, premium and business. See screenshot for reference.

You can access a list of free domains from the dropdown box just to the right of the textbox where you enter your subdomain name.

It is advisable not to use the domain because you would have security problems when saving your final url link as your website on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and some social networks. This is because users of this free domain has abused it to the point at which these social networks now find it as a threat to security.

#2 Placing your order

After choosing a hosting plan, choose a subdomain name for your website as well as a password (you can also use an automatically generated password by clicking on the generate button just at the right hand side of the password textbox). Click continue, then place your order after entering the correct captcha code and ticking the "I agree to terms and condition" tickbox on the next page. See screenshot below.

Hint: If you find it difficult to see the images clearly, click on the image for a preview mode. If this doesn't help as well. Make use of the Ctrl and + button on your keyboard to enlarge the image view and Ctrl and - to bring it back to the normal size.

You should now be taken to a new page. Click the details button to see some information about the newly created website (e.g. website URL, website preview, IP address etc.) as shown in the screen-shot below. Note that when you preview your website, it will not show any reasonable web-page because you have not imported your website yet and do some of the necessary steps I will show you as you read along.

#4 Importing your website

Scroll down and look to the left-hand side of the page until you come across the Website show/hide box. you can also find it from the account section. Click the + sign inside the small box to access further actions.

Now click the import your website button. When the new page opens, get your website files ready. Make sure they are zipped (Since all the website files are stored in a folder and sub-folders, zip the main folder and upload it to the import website field by dragging and dropping or following the normal procedure of locating your files).

Note: This may take a very long time to upload completely. The speed of upload depends on your Internet connection speed and the file size of the website document to be uploaded. When the upload is completed, you will see a file upload confirmation message being displayed.

#5 Testing the website so far

Immediately you run your website after uploading, you will see the message in the screenshot below. This is because we need to delete the default.php file as our page automatically activates the default.php file.

#6 Deleting the default.php file in the Public.html folder

Click the browser back button once if you didn't test the website in a new tab. Scroll down to the files tab at the left-hand side of the screen and choose the File Manager 2 sub-menu button. When this is loaded, open the Public.html file, tick the default.php and htaccess file then press delete.

After deleting, you will receive a delete confirmation message on the webpage. Click on the back arrow to go back to the dashboard.

When you test your website, it might look like in the screenshot below. If this is the case, don't worry as we are almost done with everything.

Index view of the unfinished website

remember to continue clicking the link until you get to the index.html page (or whatever name you called your website homepage). When you get there, run it and copy the link using Ctrl and C as this would be very useful in the next step. It will save time as well.

Don't worry, we are almost done

Make sure you remove the http:// or https:// of your copied link after pasting to avoid duplicates. replace the http:// with a www. you will get an error if there are duplicated https.

#7 Redirecting - Final step

Our website is almost complete except we do not want it in the format from the screenshot above. To counter this problem, go back to the Domain tab at the left hand side of the dashboard. Click open the redirects sub-menu button. In this section, you need to be careful not to make mistakes about the link.

You need two links here: the original website's URL link and the one you copied some moments ago (if you forgot to copy the second link, just go and re-read the texts before the poll).

Now insert the URL you copied into the "redirect to" text box. After this is done, run your website. It should be perfect without any errors.

Taiwo Kareem (author) from Salford on April 07, 2016:

I guess you are using a template rather than an actual pure html. Are you using JSP, Django, Ruby on Rails etc @fahad

Hi Subhadeep, I'm not aware that you need a server name before you upload your website as all the important things are done for you. All you need is choose a subdomain and your website name

Subhadeep on January 01, 2015:

What should be the server name to connect the database?

Nice hub. You really explained everything so well on how to import your website.

I like this as a lot of companies do still use Dreamweaver to create a website and then just want to upload their website to a hosting site.
