As it turns out the free VLC Media Player is not only great for playing video, but can also cut and trim any videos too. VLC will allow you to select a certain part of your video and cut it out saving point A to point B to your PC.

There is an easy way to cut different video parts using the free VLC Media Player. Here's how to do it.
Opening VLC Media Player
Step 1: Open VLC Media player and load a movie. I will use WorldStart's Guide To Windows 8.1 for this guide.
Enabling Advanced Controls
Step 2: From your VLC screen, use the menu bar to enable the Advanced Controls by clicking View > Advanced Controls.

Once the Advanced Controls have been enabled recording toggles will then appear just above the play mode buttons.

Selecting the Beginning of Your Clip
Step 3: Move the progress bar to your chosen start frame.

Step 4: Click the Record button to mark your selected start frame.
Step 5: Click the Play Button.
Ending the Recording
Step 6: Simply click the Record button when you want to stop recording the the portion of the video or audio you need.
How to Split/Cut video using VLC Media Player
Accessing Your Edited Video Clip
Step 4: Your trimmed video will be saved to your "My Videos" within your Documents folder in Windows. Go To My Documents > My Videos (default video folder) to access your newly trimmed video. This is the folder where VLC Media player puts the recorded files.

Hi there,
When I play the trimmed video in VLC then it plays the audio first and then the video without the audio. Why is this?
