The number of smartphones is increasing day by day all around the world. While most of the users know the basic usage of smartphones, many of them are unaware of some hidden tips and tricks.
Many of you are already aware of the general tasks that you do with your smartphone. These may include booking tickets, watching videos, sending messages to your loved ones, or any other tasks.
But apart from these general tasks, there are certain tips and tricks that you can utilize to make the most of your smartphone. It will also help you entertain yourself or increase your productivity in general.
I’ve discovered these tricks and hacks on my smartphone through continuous usage and observation. So, it is possible that you probably didn’t know them before, unless you're a smartphone freak like me.
So, without any further wait, let's discuss 6 of those most unrevealed smartphone tips and tricks below one by one:
1. Dial Phone Number without Touching Your Smartphone
Do you know that you can make a call from your smartphone without touching it? Well, it is possible in many ways. But here, I'm sharing a way that most of the people may not be aware of.
Let me stop beating around the bush and show you how you can do this. But before that, you should make sure that you have a smartphone and a laptop connected with the same internet connection. After you’ve done that, here’s all you need to do:
- Open any website that has a phone number listed on any web page.
- The phone number mentioned there should be clickable.
- When you tap on that number, a new pop-up will open on the right corner of your Google Chrome browser, showing ‘Make a call from’ option.
- Here, the name of your smartphone should appear.
- Then, click on your smartphone’s name and after a few seconds, the number will be dialed automatically on your phone’s dialer.
Isn't it cool? I’m sure you must not have known about this trick earlier.
So, now whenever you see any phone number on a website you want to make a call, you know how to do it without touching your smartphone.
Additional tip: If you want to make a call without dialing the phone number or calling the person, you can do this through the Google Assistant. You just need to set up the assistant with your voice, after which, you can call anyone in your contacts.
2. Read Out Aloud Text
The next trick I have for you can bee useful for most of the users. Using this trick, you can make your smartphone read out aloud the text written on any web page or article online.
It is mostly useful if you like to listen text rather than reading it. It can also be a helpful trick for people who want to limit their screen time usage and contribute to their digital wellbeing.
But the question is how do you do it? How will your smartphone read out aloud the text on your screen or webpage? Well, it’s quite easy. Let me explain it for you below:
Now that you’ve done that, there’s nothing much to do:
- Just open the webpage or article that consists of text you want to listen to in your web browser (Chrome recommended).
- After this, simply hold and tap on the ‘home’ (middle) button of your smartphone to activate the Google Assistant.
- After heading a short beep of Google Assistant, simply say ‘Read the current page’ or ‘Read out aloud.’
- When you have done that, a new window will automatically open up and the voice of Google Assistant will start reading the article on your smartphone’s current screen.
Below is the sample screenshot of this useful smartphone hack.
As per your requirement, you can even slow down or fast forward the speed of the dictating voice on your smartphone. So, isn’t it amazing? I'm sure you've found this trick valuable.
3. Find the Meaning of a Word by Single Tap
This tip is somewhat related to the previous one but it deserves to be counted as a standalone trick. It is most useful for people who like to read blogs, articles, or any kind of text online. However, it can be used by anyone who wants to find the meaning of a word.
If you like consuming contextual content online, chances are you might come across some new words. And to find the meaning, you either search on the internet or browse through the dictionary application on your smartphone.
But, doing this will waste a lot of your time and also disturb and distract you from reading that valuable information.
The secret of this trick lies in your Google Chrome browser. If you're a smartphone nerd, you've probably already guessed it. If not, here's what you need to do:
- Just open the webpage, blog, or piece of the text you want to read on your Chrome browser.
- To know the meaning of a particular word, simply tap on the word and it will show up the meaning at the bottom of your screen.
- Yes, it’s that simple and you don’t need to do anything special for this trick.
Below is the attached screenshot of how easily you can do this.
I have been using this tip for quite a long time now, and I found it extremely useful for learning new words and their meanings. And I hope it will also help you in the same way. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and try out this smartphone trick right now.
