5 Cool Office Gadgets for Work at Home

Life Changing Or Just Plain Cool?

Nowadays, everyone seems to be working at home. Some of us have actually chosen to work at home while others commute to a formal office with an employer. Many employers are allowing workers to work at home several days per week to save on gas and all the expenses associated with working on-site. With that in mind, I have compiled a list of cool office gadgets that make our lives easier. Yes you can call them life-changing in that if you consider 20 years ago, we were all commuting 10 hours a week, and miserable. So please enjoy my list and reflect upon how technology can change our lives for the better. Most of which can be purchased at your favorite gadgets and gizmos store.

Cute Office Desk Accessories

This multi-purpose gadget serves as a time management tool and pencil holder in your home office. It tells the time and temperature, has a music alarm and timer while organizing small items like paperclips and tacks.

Small Desk Fan

This 13" tall fan tower fan sits right on your desk. It has 4 easy-to-use switches, on and off speed control, oscillating control, energy saving mode and wide coverage. While you are in high-speed sweat mode, working hard at your desk, other family members are not freezing. Even easily transports to other areas of the home where you may be working on your laptop.

Multifunction Holder

This Keyboard organizer is great for small offices with limited space. It hides the keyboard when it is not being used. The gadget also has a cup holder and smartphone holder that can be mounted on either side.

Mug Warmer

This simple little gadget keeps your hot liquids warm while you work. The coffee mug warmer plate sits right on your desk taking up less that 6 inches of space. If you are like me, when I sit down to actually work, I am seated for at least 4 - 5 hours. Since I do not have an assistant in my home office, this is the perfect device to keep your coffee warm.

Send Voice Message Via Email

This is a cool for those of us who are blessed with a great voice. This tiny device just sits on your desk. Whenever you want to send an e-mail, just record your message with the record button. The voice message is converted to an MP3 and uploaded to your computer. Then it is sent as an e-mail attachment. Perfect for the person in management who cannot be at the office to explain assignments.

Final Word

Gizmos and gadgets exist to make our lives easier. I advise you to use the technology this way. So often we purchase these devices to make our lives easier and only end up busier. So please enjoy your new freedom and relax.

I know. I was looking at them to sell, but I was not able to find any that I could make a profit on.

Krzysztof Willman from Parlin, New Jersey on October 24, 2015:

I'm actually looking for small office gadgets and some of these are really interesting especially the mug warmer. One of my pet peeves (first world problems) is having my coffee get cold when I'm working, so it would be a nifty little gadget to look into.

The only thing I would include are toys. I find that when I have little things to play with, it helps the writers block or momentary lapse of thought pass a little faster. Great list!

@DDE Just some cool ideas to make us writers a little more comfortable.

I thought I had read this; I remember the title and thinking I have to read it, but obviously I didn't. These are cool gadgets, and although I'm not real keen on buying gadgets, I would buy the desk fan and mug warmer for sure. Thanks for some cool ideas.

@dahoglund Thanks for the idea. I have been looking to update this hub. A cool pencil sharpener should do the trick.

Don A. Hoglund from Wisconsin Rapids on October 24, 2012:

a good organizer for writing materials etc would be helpful. One not mentioned is a good pencil sharpener. sounds a bit retro but I like pencils for making rough drafts.

Nancy Yager (author) from Hamburg, New York on October 05, 2012:

The vote was a tough choice between the mug warmer and the desk fan, in fact, between all of them except the voice email gadget... I can just imagine talking to myself in my home office and accidentally sending my mumbling about longing for a warm cup of coffee or a cool breeze off to a client!

Frank Slovenec from San Francisco, CA on September 06, 2012:

I love gadgets that have value for improving work or play...your thoughts on office gadgets are cool..I work from a home office, actually I have had a home office for many is interesting how, sometimes, the smallest addition to the office improves productivity...right now I am looking for a reasonably sized corner desk..maybe a new business as we have been looking for a year..if you have any advice please feel free to offer it..

Nancy Yager (author) from Hamburg, New York on August 26, 2012:

Yes, I thought that was cool. Some of us are voice-gifted and people oriented and some of us just are not.

Michelle Liew from Singapore on August 26, 2012:

Hi Lipnancy!! I love the idea of the voice email sender. It's cool, especially if you have many mails to deal with! Thanks for this hub, I know now what to add to my home office!

Sending voice through email is very catchy, instead of typing we can quickly say what we want, very interesting article and items.

Janine Huldie from New York, New York on August 17, 2012:

Loved reading about all these different office gadgets and never heard of the Voice email sender, but that really does look very interesting and may have to look into that for my husband. Voted up and shared too.
