Give someone you love a smoother shave

Double-edge safety razors are back in style! Get the smoothest shave, while protecting your skin, with one of the best-rated safety razors.

My father shaved with these when I was young. (Well, except for the years that Dad used straight razors!) It's interesting to see the old technology come back in a new form, as its merits are recognized again.

Shaving is so often a tedious chore instead of the relaxing ritual it should be. Cartridge and disposable razors are either too flimsy or too expensive over time, and often you have to press so hard to get a smooth shave, you end up with razor burn, acne, and other irritations.

Whether your beard is heavy or light, and even if you have sensitive skin, you can get a BBS (Baby Butt Shave!) with one of these good safety razors. And you can share the great feeling by giving a loved one a brand-new classic razor for his birthday or Christmas.

1. Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor

If you want a well-balanced medium-weight razor, that shaves neither too lightly nor too aggressively, the Merkur 180 is the one for you. Its long handle with pronounced knurling is easy to hold and control. The head on this three-piece razor unscrews to quickly change the blade, and also makes it very easy to rinse out soap and hair. And finally, the shiny chrome finish and solid appearance equal a razor that looks as good as it shaves.

This razor has a medium-weight shave, neither light nor aggressive.

Comes in a nice presentation box and includes 5 Derby safety blades - perfect for gift-giving! Edwin Jagger brand safety razors are made in Sheffield, England.

3. Merkur Futur 700 Adjustable Safety Razor

The Merkur Futur combines elegant design with the flexibility of an adjustable head. You can change the level of your blade to go from the mildest shave to the most aggressive. Experiment to find which setting works best for you! The longer handle makes the razor easy to control, and the head snaps off to make changing blades or cleaning quick and easy. A satiny finish completes a razor that's both beautiful and practical.

This light but well-made Feather has an easy-grip polymer handle, and delivers a smooth, mild shave. Excellent for those with lighter beards or sensitive skin. The Feather company also makes surgical instruments, and their razors reflect the same serious quality. I have three of the razors on this list and my favorite to shave with is the Edwin Jagger. Just feels like quality.

I added a Parker 99R and a Shave Craft 101 (IKON) to my collection. Both are very nice razors.

Pick up a razor blade sampler pack to find the right blades for you. Everyone face is different.

Should get one of these razors for my husband. He shaves daily. Great lens with lots of information.

Have always used electric razors, but am thinking about safety razors to get a BBS!

Sicilian on June 03, 2013:

I own and use a Gillette adjustable razor ( my favorite) a chrome super speed a gold super speed a Weishei chrome super speed (very good razor; very well made) and a Parker 65R. The parker has an ornate carved non slip handle. It is a well made three piece razor that gives a very good shave. I use Wilkinson Sword blades I buy at Walmart. I like Shark chrome blades as well as Sharp blades.

Great lens. This is like a blast from the past. Good information on the lens and a good selection. I think if I wanted to spoil myself it would be with the Merkur
