5 Ways to Remove Unwanted Hair Naturally

Simple Home Remedies for Hair Removal

Unwanted hair has always been a concern for women, and to some extent for men. The amount of money spent annually on hair removal products is proof. Everyone is eager and willing to pay the price to get rid of that excess hair, especially when the temperature rises. You can find many home remedies for hair removal, but doing so thoroughly requires a bit of patience and knowhow.

Pumice Stones and Soap

Pumice is very light and porous volcanic rock that can be used as an abrasive for removing hair and dead skin. Pumice stones have pores that can be used to scrub off unwanted hair and calluses. Use it after you apply soap or another lubricant, or else you may develop a rash or red spots on your skin. Over time, regular use of a pumice stone can help in decreasing hair density or completely removing hair.

Gram Flour and Turmeric Powder

In India, this method is widely used because it's especially gentle on sensitive skin.

  1. Make a paste of turmeric powder (haldi), gram flour (chickpea or besan), and plain yogurt (curd).
  2. Apply the paste to the surface of your skin and let it try (usually takes about a half an hour).
  3. Rub the paste off in the opposite direction of the hair growth and then apply moisturizer.

Do this at least once a week for four months and you will see the difference.

Spearmint Tea

Sometimes hormones are the reason for unwanted hair growth, specifically high levels of testosterone. Spearmint tea can help reduce testosterone levels and naturally decrease the amount of hair. Drink one cup daily in the morning for results.

Honey, Lemon, and Sugar

As a homemade waxing product, this is easy to make and apply!

  • Mix honey, lemon, and sugar (in proportions of 30:10:60: for example, three teaspoons honey, one teaspoon lemon juice, and six teaspoons sugar).
  • Microwave on high until it turns into a paste (or reduce in a saucepan over a high flame).
  • Let it cool (on a plate or a stone countertop) so that you can apply comfortably (don't rush this step and burn yourself!).
  • Apply a thin layer on the area with the unwanted hair. Press it into the skin then pull it off in the opposite direction of the hair growth.
  • Afterwards, clean the skin and apply moisturizer for smooth and glowing skin.

Simply rub a fine sandpaper on the skin with hair. This process can be somewhat uncomfortable and does not remove much hair, but it works for people who are not very sensitive and have light hair growth. Sandpaper can hurt sensitive areas but it's a great exfoliator.

Note: Do not use this method for facial hair and avoid using heavy-grained sandpaper. For those with sensitive skin and/or heavier hair growth, maybe you should stick with the pumice stone (see above).

What about you?
