A bubble bath is great for your mental and physical health. A "bubble bath" is defined by the addition of special solutions to the water in the bathtub to generate bubbles. One health benefit of the bubble bath is that it provides a great environment for you to relax. The warm water combines with bubbles that have scents personalized to your desired mood. Relaxing scents are lavender and vanilla, while energizing scents are peppermint and citrus.

Once the water is filled to the desired level in the tub, add essential oils for further relaxation. Essential oils are highly concentrated essences of aromatic plants. A great recipe for a relaxing and calming bath is:

  • 2 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Cedarwood
  • 2 drops Bergamot

As the water moves in the tub, the scents of the oils rise with the steam of the water. Lay back and enjoy the warmth of the water and the calming scent in the air. You are enjoying the health benefit of aromatherapy to help heal the mind.

You are healing your mind as you take time to mentally rejuvenate from your busy day spent working, juggling family priorities and maintaining the home. Perhaps the bubble bath is taken at the end of the day to give you time to unwind. Days are busy for many people as they engage in a speed race going from one task to another one.

Another health benefit of a bubble bath is the improved condition of your skin. A soak in a bubble bath can leave with smoother skin. The water softens the skin, which creates an easier surface to exfoliate away any dead skin cells. Tools to help you exfoliate your skin while in the tub include:

  • Loofah Sponge
  • Pumice Stone
  • Foot Scrubs

Use the loofah on rough patches of skin, such as your elbows. Rub the pumice stone gently along the hard skin that develops on the ball, heel or soft underfoot areas of your feet. Foot scrubs are available in a variety of scents to match your scented bubbles, whether your bath is relaxing or invigorating in nature.

After your bubble bath, pat your skin with a towel gently and apply body lotion to add moisture back into your skin. A great health benefit physically of a bubble bath is the improvement of the softness of your skin.

As well, the warm water of the bath can help alleviate any sore muscles; here is another important health benefit. Add Epsom salts to your bubble bath to further soften the water and help get rid of your body aches.

Another health benefit of a bubble bath is that you focus on you . You draw attention to your sense of self.

While the rest of the day may be spent caring for other people or being busy completing daily tasks, the bubble bath is time to take care of you , and only you. You have time to reflect on the day's problems or simply clear your mind of any anxiety-provoking thoughts. You work at strengthening your mental health.

Before dipping into your bath, try telling the other members of your household that you will be in the tub and are not to be disturbed. When you clearly carve out the time for yourself, you are not worrying if you are taking too long in the bath or you do not feel other outside pressures to hurry up your bubble bath time.

An invigorating bubble bath, such as one that uses citrus scented soaps, can actually improve your train of thought. As you lay back in the bathtub, you may find yourself feeling more energized to work on a current project or have a new idea for a work assignment. I know I enjoy a bubblebath. I wish I could take one nightly it would be heaven. I feel so relaxed during and after nothing can phase me. I really enjoy baths. Bubble baths really do have a super relaxing quality. The bubble feel great, I even like the way they sound. I have fry skin also and ading oils really makes a great difference.... Thanks for reminding us that finding time to take a bath is worth it!

Ahh.....I used to enjoy them...not so much anymore. For one thing, being older, it is harder to lower myself into the tub and get out again. For another, our tub is terrible. It's way to short for a good soak. If you want your shoulders underwater, you have to stick your feet on the wall above the faucet; if you want your knees soaking, you are sitting straight up, wet and getting chilled from the waist up.

The last time I tried to take a bubble bath, I had a curious cat try to paw the bubbles, and he fell in! I had to scruff him fast and yell for my husband to come with a towel to dry a pissed-off cat! LOL

(These days--maybe we need to be careful about using the term "bath salts" ;-) ... what next!?)
