Tree tattoos are among my favorite tattoo designs because of the many ways a tree can be designed, and the other elements you can add to it if you want to make it into a scene.
Even if a tree stands alone, with only a few additions, embellishments or characters included, it seems to always looks great if you have a good tattoo artists doing the design and work.
In the case of this gallery of tattoos, I'm going to focus on what I describe as Gothic tree tattoos.
All of these tattoos have similarities, and are easily identifiable once you see what they are and how they affect the look and feel of the tree.
Taking that into consideration, they do offer up a completely different tattoo than many of the other designs offered.
- Compelling Tree Tattoos
Tree tattoos are probably my favorite themes of body art. I'm not sure why it is, but when I look at the variety of tree tattoo designs, they really capture my attention, and as a piece of art in and of themselves, are very enjoyable to look and and.
- Gothic Bat Tattoos
Bats are always a fascinating subject matter because of their connection with horror and darkness in the Western world. That attracts those who live the live of a Goth, or those who enjoy the art associated with it, including of course bats. ...
- The Truth about Temporary Tattoos
With tattooing become an extremely popular practice by a growing number of people, temporary tattoos offer a great alternative to those who don't want something permanent on their bodies, looking to have fun or want to try it out before being...
Gothic Tree Tattoo Design
A Gothic tree design, to me, must have several features to fall into that category. Now there will be some subjectivity in the description, as the true Goth lifestyle is one created by the individual, or those who agree to agree together. That extends to all areas of life, including tree tattoos.
With that caveat, my interpretation of a Gothic tree tattoo is one that has little or no leaves, is totally designed in black or dark ink, has gnarled or pointed branches, and may have a dark character included to enhance and support the image.
So here's a gallery of Gothic tree tattoo that I see as fitting that description.
- Awesome Tribal Tattoos
I recently wrote about the increasing popularity of cross tattoos, as the overall tattoos trend embracing numerous designs and representative lifestyles. Another tattoo trend which is even growing larger than cross tattoos, is tribal tattoos. ...
- Colorful Rainbow Tattoos
Rainbow tattoo designs are a great choice for tattoo ink, as the spectrum of color is awesome, and you can use the rainbow theme in an extraordinary variety of settings. They also represent desirable characteristics, it is considered a mirror of...
Gothic Tree with Crows
Sometimes it's hard to tell whether a bird design like this is a crow or raven, but these birds appear to be crows to be, although I could me mistaken.
Either way, it's always a foreboding sign to see birds fluttering around like that overhead, as it usually means something has died.
The look good with the seemingly dead tree. Notice how a couple of them appear to be pecking away at it.
- Robot Tattoos
Robots have captured the imaginations of people for decades as a world filled with them serving in numerous capacities has been envisioned as the probable future. That has generated all sorts of interest from writers and artists, as well as those...
- Majestic Ram Tattoos
Being someone who has raised sheep and owned a couple of rams, I appreciate the majesty related to them and the very cool look they have when displayed in an art form. There are a variety of ram types, but I'm not going to get into that, as we're...
Pointy-Limbed Gothic Tree Tattoo
Similar to the image above, the one thing that caught my attention was the way the limbs were so pointed at the ends, as well as the roots. That makes this tattoo, as the rest of the tree is very common looking. Maybe it was purposely designed that way.
If you look at the trunk, you can see the lighter, smoother design giving way as you go up and down the tree. Interesting effect.
My only complaint is a darker ink would have made this into an awesome tattoo, rather than a somewhat average one.
- Cloud Tattoo Designs
Clouds are a great supporting actor in the scenes portrayed in tattoo designs, and should be considered as part of any creative scenario if it fits in with the other elements of the image that is being contemplated. While there are occasional...
- Lightning Tattoo Designs
The thunder and lightning accompanying a storm have generated worry for some, and for others provide a sense of awe and amazement at this powerful experience. It's no surprise then that those seeking new tattoo design ideas look to lightning in...
Back Gothic Tree Tattoo
Not only is this a great back Gothic tree tattoo, but the way it is complemented by what the woman is wearing makes it even better to me.
The way the tree seems to emerge from underneath her top and spread out across her back is very cool. Also the dark ink blends in nicely with the hue of the dress. That lone crow sitting there is a nice addition to the design too.
- Skull Wearing Hat Tattoo Designs
Tattoos of skulls wearing hats are awesome, and include a little bit of everything in the way of hats, including cowboy hats, top hats, jester and baseball hats. But it doesn't end there. While wearing a variety of hats, the skulls, for the most...
- Weeping Willow Tattoo Designs
The weeping willow is among the more unique and beautiful trees. They are placed near ponds and other areas to help stem erosion, as well as barriers to stop heavy winds. Add to that the amazing look of the tree, and you have a gorgeous and...
Gnarled Gothic Tree Tattoo
This is an awesome Gothic tree tattoo below, but there is one thing wrong with it: very few people will be able to enjoy that amazing quality.
As with many decisions on tattoo placement, it always surprises me to see an otherwise extraordinary tattoo design be weakened by the positioning on the body.
It doesn't matter if it's in a private area or not; if it's not in a position where it can be seen on the surface it's inked on, it loses much of its impact.
Nonetheless, it is a fantastic tattoo in its own right, even with the inherent limitations.
- Cobra Tattoos
Cobra and King Cobra tattoos are amazing if you like snakes and that fascinated hood the cobra has. It's a great motivator for tattoo artists wanting to create great designs. While cobras are placed in a variety of places on the body when inked...
- Harley Davidson Tattoos
Harley Davidson motorcycles, and the brand itself, have become a way of life for many people, and represents, more than anything, freedom. Consequently, Harley fans are forever looking to express the lifestyle, and one of those choices are to get...
Great Gothic Tree
I really like this tree with the person at the bottom. The way the darker shadow is contrasted with the light really makes this design to me.
As to what appears to be that person at the bottom of the tree, it may in fact be part of the tree itself. It seems like it is, but it blends in so well it's hard to tell. What do you think?
- Hair Tattoo Designs
Technically hair tattoos really aren't tattoos, as they have nothing to do with ink, although they do have a similar characteristic with temporary tattoos in that they are meant to be a work of art employed for a short period of time. Hair tattoos...
- Zombie Tattoo Designs
There is no doubt one of the more popular themes of the entertainment industry over the last several years has been vampires, werewolves and zombies, among a variety of other roles and characters representing a number of bad creatures. Zombie...
Tree Tattoo on Lower Back
This particular tree was borderline Gothic to me. The branches don't quite have that creepy look the others in this gallery do.
Two things sold me on it though. One was the woman herself, who is dressed in Goth, but also the tree, which seems to have a twisted trunk and branches, confirming its official (or unofficial) Goth status.
- Werewolf Tattoos You Can't Ignore
While werewolf tattoos obviously aren't for everyone, if you like fantasy art, it's definitely a compelling theme, even if you aren't the type to have it inked on you. For those that do enjoy horror, werewolves are among the best in my opinion, as...
- Fabulous Fantasy Tattoos
Fantasy, whether reading or art, is among my favorite subjects, and it always lends itself to some outstanding designs, which the tattoos below will testify to. One unique element in fantasy, is overall, most artists like to not just create one...
Dark Gothic Tree
Although some would identify this particular tattoo design as a Celtic tree of life, I see it much differently, especially with the numerous pointed limbs protruding from the ends of the branches. You can click on this tattoo to get a larger view of that part of the tree if you like.
Those little branch ends and the extremely dark ink are what tipped this into Gothic to me.
- Disturbing Mask Tattoos
When you begin to think about mask tattoos, you're almost exclusively going to encounter the dark side of life, as very few tattoo designs including masks are represented by the light. There are some exceptions, and I've included a couple of those...
- Halloween Tattoo Designs and Ideas
Halloween is one of the most popular days of the year, generating close to the amount of interest that Christmas brings. That has resulted in a growing interest in tattoo designs associated with the special day. Tattoos celebrating Halloween...
Gothic Tree Arm Tattoo
What probably impressed me most about this Gothic tree is the ability of the artist to be able to place it on that small of a canvass and still retain the look and feel obviously wanted by the recipient. That is extremely hard to do.
As for this tree, it's similar to the one above in relationship to the small, pointy, thin ends. The knotty holes on the tree trunk and the contrast of dark and light ink make this a terrific tattoo design.
This ends our little foray into Gothic tree tattoos. These were a really nice gallery of design choices for those seeking a tattoo with the particular qualities displayed here, and range from the slightly ominous to being slightly macabre.
When you take in all of them, you can see why I'm so enamored with tree tattoos, and the addition of the Gothic element to them.

I adore the 3rd photo - if I ever get brave enough to get a tatt that large, that would be the one. Ravens are my favorite bird, second only to loons. I guess I have quite a darker side, but don't we all just a bit?

Beautiful art work. Interesting location.
