Jacquard sweaters & jackets - a wonderful fashion investment
The beautiful jacquard sweaters are what Caroline my fashion editor friend explains to me as an example of 'amortized fashion'. She explained that this is a phrase that is often used in the style world to describe investment clothing items that represent great value of money.
The theory is this - imagine that you spend $50 on a garment that you wear only once. On the other hand, say you buy a fashion item for $500 and you wear it every day. Which has actually cost you more? Exactly.
The more expensive item has represented much better value for money or a cost-per-wearing basis. This is how experts evaluate many of the latest trends.
How often will it be worn? How adaptable and flexible is the item? Will it be out of style in a year from now and banished to the depths of the closet? These are important questions to ask.
As Caroline says, fashion magazines and editors have a responsibility towards their readers. If they recommend stylish garments and accessories that turn out to be poor value, they lose their credibility and they lose their customers.
That's why Caroline is currently raving about these lovely garments. The outlay isn't cheap - but they represent excellent value for money when you consider the cost-per-wearing ratio. I had great fun selecting my own favorites!
Beige, black and pink sweater
I love this colorway. It has a great range of colors to make this sweater a very versatile addition to your wardrobe. It's made from 100% Merino wool and is as warm and cozy as it is stylish. Note the detail of the shawl collar which can be worn open or buttoned, as shown. Imagine this sweater with leggings and leather boots. Imagine it worn with a black pencil skirt ... you can visualize so many outfits that you can create using this sweater as a base.
This sweater is made from 100% Merino wool - extra fine. It gives you a great number of colors to pick out from purple and rich chocolate through to greens and blues. Wear the garment closed, like this, or leave it unbuttoned for a more casual look.. This top looks as good with blue jeans as it does with elegant crepe evening pants or worn over a solid-colored dress.
Made from 100% merino wool, this jacket / cardigan enhances any wardrobe. Look at the beautiful colors and you'll see that you can wear it with separates in solid colors such as various shades of blue, red, yellow and green. It can be worn in a variety of ways. It can be worn as a cardigan or as a jacket and is incredibly versatile. It has a beautiful ethnic style that, although it will never date, it right up to the minute. The shades of blue make it perfect to wear with jeans and a lovely pashima scarf in one of the other colors - maybe the golden color or that gorgeous mauve shade.
Longer length top
This three button sweater is 80% wool. It has a high mandarin-style collar and falls over the hips so is perfect to enhance a pear-shaped figure. It's light enough to be worn as a top and yet versatile enough to be worn as a jacket - a true multi-functional piece for your wardrobe. And just look at those wonderful colors.

Trivia - did you know?
- These fabrics are named after Joseph Marie Jacquard. He is the person responsible for inventing the attachment that fitted onto looms to enable them to make this exciting fabric. It made its first appearance back in 1801.
- He was a Frenchman and the feature of the his loom was that it was programmable. Strange as it may seem, this technology, from all those years ago, is part of the developments that led to the invention of the computer.
- Despite his amazing invention in his later years, Joseph Marie Jacquard was completely illiterate until he was in his early teens.
- These fabrics have the advantage of being more stable than other woven fabrics - they also have a better capacity to stretch.
- Setting up the specialized loom is very labor-intensive. This ensures the fabrics are unusual and adds to the cost of garments using jacquard.
- Because of their history and complexity, jacquard garments can be seen as part of the history of the modern world and modern technology. It is no exaggeration to say that these garments are now being featured in the wills and bequests of fashionistas!
All designers - architects, jewelry designers and more - know that the true genius of successful design in in the details.
And it's just the same with fashion.

That's an important point we often forget in the moment. Quality is quality today or when the kids grow up.

I especially like that Baltic jacket. I love sweaters that cover the neck (esp. during our Canadian winters) since my scarf would rather stay on the floor or touch the ground. The IVKO longer red sweater reminds me of how classy Asian-styled shirts are. These ARE stunning.
