One Piece Swimsuits for Women

With most of the US starting to chill out right now (okay people let's thaw out), it seemed like it was a good time to break out the summer fashions and think of something hot.
And what would be hotter than ladies swimsuits?

Even though the bikini usually gets all the press, the one piece swimsuit has been a stand by for women for a long time.
And in some people's opinions, just as sexy (if not more) as it's skimpier cousin.
Sometimes leaving something to the imagination is a good thing.

So here are some beautiful ladies in some beautiful one piece swimsuits....

Women's swimsuits have a very long history and have been called many names over the years.
You have swimsuits, swimmers, bathing suit, bathers, aqua jammies, swimming costume, cozzies and togs.
But they are all just terms for items of clothing designed to be worn while swimming.
Okay, who came up with Aqua Jammies?

Actually I kinda like the term Aqua Jammies....

Swimsuits for women come in all types, even though the popular bikini is what you see the most of.
The bikini was supposedly invented in 1946, but the murals at Pompeii show women wearing two-piece suits.
Wow...a history lesson in a swimsuit article...who woulda thought?

But one style that is overlooked a lot today is the good old one piece swimsuit stand by, it's been around since the 18th century.
For years, the one piece was the go to design to show off a woman's curves.
Even men wore similar one piece suits.

Of course the one piece covers more of the woman's body, and some say that leaves a bit more for the imagination to fill in.
And hey, before the invention of the bikini...that's all we had!

The most common kind of one-piece is the tank suit, that looks kinda like a bodysuit or a sleeveless leotard.
But  there are many kinds of one-pieces.
Some have halternecks, some plunge wayyyyy down in the front, some wrap around and we have the bandeau style as well.
There is even a pretzel style that to tell the truth, looks pretty uncomfortable.

The one-piece is probably most famous today as athletic swimsuits.
Some types of the athletic style are the racerback, fastback, and flyback.
Professional swimmers often wear the ultimate in one-pieces, the bodyskin, which covers the entire torso, arms and legs.

But back to the one-piece, it can look just as enticing on the female figure as a bikini can, if the scoop in the front is just right, and the sides are cut high enough to show off the legs.
And of course, using those same high cut legs and a little design manipulation, you can make the torso appear longer and thinner and even make the legs look longer.
With the suit covering the "important areas", you can use materials and design tricks that actually make the one-piece slim the body.
Ain't science great?

It's really a style that more full-figured women can make look better than slender women can, because they have the size to fill out the curves.

For a long time, the one piece swimsuits were the standard for beauty pageants like Miss America and Miss USA, though that's changed now.

If you have any doubt that a one-piece swimsuit can look just as hot as a bikini, I direct you attention to Baywatch, the show that sold a million red one-piece lifeguard swimsuits.
I'm sorry, but Pamela Anderson would not have looked the same running in slow motion in a red bikini.
For one thing, it probably would have never gotten past the censors.

Ronald Tucker from Louisville, Kentucky on October 14, 2017:

Crystal wearing a snakeskin print one-piece, Angie in her red metallic and Aurora modeling her "hot-pink" swimsuit look gorgeously sexy as does all the models. It has been said,"that a one-piece can make a bikini shy."

Richelle on May 11, 2015:

I think a one piece if worn properly can be just as sexy looking. The bikini dose show more of the body true but that is what some people want to do. I like the one piece a lot and use it quite frequently very comfortable, isn't that important also?

poetryman6969 on March 12, 2015:

While I prefer a bikini, these models show that with the right cut, a one piece can be quite fetching.

Where I live, the one-piece swimsuits are virtually prohibited by local culture, but what hell is this local culture, the true local culture is dead, they talk about bikini all the time, even when it appears a girl in a bathing suit one piece, they use the term bikini, here the summer is the season of the uncovered bellies , I think it all sucks, one-piece swimsuits are much sexier than bikinis, a woman need not have a perfect body to be exciting wearing one-piece swimsuit

I think many men would find that women in a one piece is often more sexy than a women with a 2 piece that covers almost nothing. I have worn them both and i always seem to catch more men looking when i have a nice hot one piece on ..

Phillyfreeze69 on January 14, 2010:

Very interesting hub and very informative from a historical perspective. The One-Piece has come a long way in terms of design. I especially like the Blk&White with the Pink trim worn by Crystal and the Blk. with the White bodice trim worn by Adrean is earth friendly(made from recycled fabric).

Oh, I spend allot of time in swimsuits with my "swim fitness" - this is great! Own too many one pieces - wish I had more tankinis. Love swimsuits!

Nothing is more powerful than one's imagination...The one-piece leaves much to the imagination, a trend I hope continues...

ronaldoh from England on January 13, 2010:

Nice! Won't get fed up of this one.

dohn121 from Hudson Valley, New York on January 12, 2010:

I never thought a one piece swimsuit was sexy until I read this hub. And then you reminded me of Baywatch, which is perhaps the world's most watched television show for years! Gee, I wonder why?

Sylvia Van Velzer from Hawaii on January 12, 2010:

No apologies, winter here doesn't stop anyone from diving in lovely azure waters! It may be chilly for some, but not for us natives! Hawaiians say "It's predictably boring perfect weather all year round"

sabrebIade (author) from Pennsylvania on January 12, 2010:

Well I imagine that in Hawaii you arent getting much of a cold snap huh?

Thanks for stopping by!

Sylvia Van Velzer from Hawaii on January 12, 2010:

I love the bikini, which is the perfect swimsuit for Hawaii. But i also love the one piece, but real nice ones are not easy to find somehow. Your lineup is great and pretty hot! I had that white one with the peek-a-boos a long time ago.
