People are drawn to you for your earthiness and because you are grounded. Wearing a flowing nature inspired gown makes you a natural beauty.

Classic Vintage Prom Gown

The classic vintage style prom dress says that you have a timeless and classy sense of style. People who prefer vintage style are romantic at heart. You may tend to be nostalgic for the simplicity and style of the past. Your flair for glamour and elegance gives you a star like quality that draws people to you. With your original look, your style can not be duplicated. This glamorous Hollywood type style is complete with a classic up swept hair style.

Short and Sassy Prom Gown

The short and sassy prom dress says you are fun, outgoing, friendly, and sporty. The simple elegance of a short dress says that you are on the go and don't want to be tied down to a heavy and complicated style. This friendly style suits those with perky personalities. Your style says you are the life of the party and a bit of flirt. When choosing a short dress, you will want to invest in some playful heels to complete this sassy look. A sassy hair style compliments this look and lets your fun and vivacious personality shine through.

The Bear All Prom Gown

Little can be said about this choice in prom gown- from the poor fit of the gown, the shoes, the strategically placed garter, to the missing portions of this dress. This style will certainly gain the wearer attention as demonstrated by male model in the photo (he seems to really appreciate this style). The question remains, what kind of attention is one seeking when wearing a gown like this to the prom? This style of gown is for those who are daring, baring, and not concerned with their reputations.

The Gothic Prom Gown

A Medieval or Gothic prom dress says you are a deep and passionate person with a mysterious personality. This Gothic style states that you are a nonconformist who has her own ideas of style. You would not be caught dead in a pink gown. This style is popular as a subculture of those who go against mainstream culture and all things popular. This rebellious statement is wonderful for those who appreciate the lure of Medieval times and those who are a part of the Gothic subculture. Elaborate hair and make up complete this unique and intense look.

The Red Prom Dress

The red prom dress is for those with a daring, outgoing spirit and an ability to handle the spotlight. The red gown sends the statement that you are confident, beautiful, and sophisticated. While your peers are wearing cute styles, you are a step ahead. The red prom gown says that you are serious, ambitious, driven, and self assured. This style is best suited for the finest diamonds and high heels. This style of prom gown should be reserved for those who can handle being the center of attention.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on January 24, 2013:

Thanks so much for reading and commenting Pamela99. The nature gown is my favorite too! :)

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on January 23, 2013:

Tammy, This hub was so interesting and entertaining. Two pictures did not come up for me, but from what I did see I loved the naturally inspired and the red gown is also beautiful. I actually wore a white gown to my prom many, many years ago.

Kimberly Vaughn from Midwest on November 11, 2012:

Interesting hub! My prom was in 1998 and the princess type dress was very in back then. If I got to go back and do it again I would probably choose a different style.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on September 16, 2012:

That sounds like a beautiful gown Mama Kim. I love the nature gowns the best too. Thanks for reading!

Aloe Kim on September 16, 2012:

Lovely hub Tammy ^_^ love the presentation and such a fun idea. My dress was very nature-inspired. It faded in and out of tan, bronzes and golds with a layer of lace over the whole thing that had beautiful gold and green leaf detailing. Long but not poofy ^_^ wonderful hub! Voted a bunch!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on July 07, 2012:

How unique Euro. I bet that was a really gown. Thanks for your kind comment.

Fotinoula Gypsyy from NYC BABY on July 06, 2012:

Lovely hub! It's been a couple of years since my prom, but I don't know where my dress would fall in a category! I remember I was so happy I only paid 30$ for my dress and it was knee length, yellow and the stomach part was a lace see through material, so obviously my stomach showed, but it wasn't slutty looking, more elegant looking even though I had skin out! lol What a fun hub, brought back memories! :)

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on July 03, 2012:

Thanks so much for reading and commenting Becky Bruce. I am glad you found it interesting. :)

Becky Bruce from San Diego, CA on July 03, 2012:

Audrey Howitt from California on May 26, 2012:

I am way beyond my prom dress days, but it was fun to remember what my daughters' choices were in reference to your hub!!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on May 01, 2012:

Thanks phdast7! :)

Theresa Ast from Atlanta, Georgia on May 01, 2012:

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on May 01, 2012:

Thanks ishwaryaa. I like the nature inspired gown also. It is great for us earthy girls. Thanks for reading and sharing.

Ishwaryaa Dhandapani from Chennai, India on April 30, 2012:

An entertaining read! You spoke like a true fashion expert! The list of prom dress with coordinated hairstyles and personalities that sync with each dress are well-stated! I voted nature inspired gown. In my country, saree are the "prom dress" for girls. I wore a dark green saree for the school prom just as you said - nature inspired! This hub somewhat brought back my school prom memories! Well-written hub!

Thanks for SHARING. Awesome & Interesting. Voted up & Socially Shared.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 28, 2012:

I liked the nature inspired gown as well Just Ask Susan. I love earthy colors. Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Susan Zutautas from Ontario, Canada on April 28, 2012:

I picked the nature inspired gown as my favorite on your hub. Very interesting reading what the dresses say about the person that has chosen them.

Wishing I could go back in time and go to a prom :)

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 26, 2012:

I figured you would be in red Pamela N Red. Boy, your daughter is tiny. Some gowns just aren't the same when they are hemmed to much. I hope she enjoys her prom! Thanks for reading.

Pamela N Red from Oklahoma on April 26, 2012:

I would be the one in red.

My daughter is only 4'11" so I try to talk her into a short one when possible. She's worn some longer ones but they can't all be shortened a foot which seems to be how much we have to cut off.

This was a fun article.

Shasta Matova from USA on April 21, 2012:

Thanks Tammy. I am glad you understood what I was trying to say, even though I said it very badly. *guy

"wouldn't be wearing something like that

There are too many pretty dresses - I like the gothic one and the red dress - to wear the ugly ones.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 21, 2012:

Good for you Ruchira! Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Ruchira from United States on April 21, 2012:

Great research and effort put in this hub. I do agree...they type of clothing does signify our personality :) I would go for Red prom dress....ool-la-la :))

voted up indeed!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 19, 2012:

Me either Millionaire Tips! I wouldn't have worn that even as a young person. Thanks for commenting!

Shasta Matova from USA on April 19, 2012:

There certainly are a lot of choices for prom dresses, from simple and elegant to over the top. I think the Bare All buy looks uncomfortable, and I certainly would be wearing something like that!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 08, 2012:

Thanks so much for visiting Prasetio! :)

prasetio30 from malang-indonesia on April 08, 2012:

Ruth McCollum from Lake Oswego, Oregon on April 06, 2012:

Sondra from Neverland on April 05, 2012:

I enjoyed looking through this to see what my prom dress of yester-decade (it was too long ago to be just yester-year hahah) said about me. Cute and interesting Hub Tammy :)

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 05, 2012:

Thanks for your visit Ms. Stephanie. The Bear All Prom Dress will be forbidden in my house too.. LOL!

Stephanie Henkel from USA on April 04, 2012:

Great hub about prom gowns - I loved all your pictures and insights into personality of the wearers! I want to go to the prom...or maybe I'll settle for taking my granddaughter shopping for a prom dress...definitely not the Bear All Prom Dress, though!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 04, 2012:

Thanks for reading and commenting SanneL. You strike me as a red gown type of gal. When I was younger I would have probably gone with the nature dress. Today, I would go vintage. Thanks so much for sharing that and leaving a wonderful comment.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 04, 2012:

Hi Tsmog! It would be fun to see your prom photos. There are all sorts of tuxes now a days. Guys can match any color. I guess black is easier and doesn't upstage the ladies. LOL! Thanks for stopping by!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 04, 2012:

Hi JKenny! How exciting. You have probably seen all of these styles. It seems the guys prefer the feminine styles over the the other styles. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

James Kenny from Birmingham, England on April 04, 2012:

Hi Tammy, this hub bought back memories of when I worked in my mom's prom/evening-wear shop. I know what you're thinking, but I rarely went near the dresses. I took care of all of the business and financial side of things. Although seeing that Princess dress reminded me of two that we had that were very similar, we called them sugar and sugar plum.

I do remember on occasion some of the girls mom's asking my opinion of a prom dress, guess they just wanted a man's point of view eh? Great work. Voted up.

Tim Mitchell from Escondido, CA on April 03, 2012:

Hi Tammy. I like this expose of fun and daring. I have the prom pics from yesteryear, and what a difference compared to today. The videos told me I should change careers. Although just a bit curious, my dates always told me just get a black tux. I know black goes with everything in the scheme of fashion, but is there a right tux to compliment the prom dress? Well, back to work , , ,thank you!

SanneL from Sweden on April 03, 2012:

Tammy, great hub, and I have to thank Alastar for sharing this. Well, my days as a prom Queen is far, (very far) behind Lol! so I will not be looking for a prom dress in the near future. However, I still like to look at the dresses.

You have put together a great selection here. Some really hideous lol to downright bad taste. Whatever did that poor girl think about when she put that pink skimpy creation on. Oh my! Lol. If I was three decades younger, I would have chosen the short version, to match my personality at the time lol. However, today I would love to wear the red one.

As always, you bring us the most fascinating hubs my dear Tammy. Always such a pleasure to read your work. Well done. Voted up and sharing.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 03, 2012:

Thanks so much for reading Alastar. I notice a lot of dads reading this article.. LOL! It is always a pleasure to see you! Thanks!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 03, 2012:

Wow molometer! I figured it was an idea inspired across the big pond. It is such a big deal for all here in the states. It is almost as expensive as a mini wedding. :P Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 03, 2012:

That is funny Realhousewife.. as long as she keeps it on. Burnt orange would be stunning! I sent three boys to prom. It was pretty simple. I did get to help my son's girlfriend get ready. She wore a fabulous red dress with diamonds. She is so beautiful. Mine is 3 now but I am already guessing she will go for the princess gown. :) Thanks for your visit!

Alastar Packer from North Carolina on April 03, 2012:

Wow. Don't tell anyone Tammy but I kinda liked this lol. The girl with the Bear All gown is lovin' hers. Well-named. The Princess Prom is gorgeous. Yep, this hub goes to show you should never judge a hub by it's cover. Great one to share with me female followers, and maybe the guys too!

Micheal from United Kingdom on April 03, 2012:

Well I voted for the classic prom dress, then realised that there were tuxedos for the guys.

So I may have skewed the poll.

Prom is catching on big time in the UK now too?

It is rather odd to watch.

It is such an American tradition. Interesting and funny hub.

Oh beautiful! One of my daughters has gone to prom...I have two more to go! Now I don't care which dress they wear as long as they keep it on! Lol lol

This brings back sweet memories of how pretty my girl looked in her was a burnt orange color with a beautiful laced up back! She looked SO beautiful:). So 1 down - 2 to go!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on April 01, 2012:

Hi PurvisBobbi44,

I can't wait to see your photo! Thanks so much for your kind words. I appreciate them and your visit very much. Thanks for stopping by.

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on March 30, 2012:

Hi Tammy,

What a great hub, and the third gown looks like one I wore to the Junior Prom. When I get my hand scanner working I will send you a copy for laughs.

Congrads on being interviewed by HP--I am on and off there lately so fast until I did not get to tell you. What a great honor, save it for your scrapbook.

Take Care,

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 30, 2012:

Thanks alocsin. There are so many different styles to choose from. They have come such a long way since I was in school. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Aurelio Locsin from Orange County, CA on March 30, 2012:

I didn't realize there were all these different prom gowns. The few proms I've witnessed had all the girls worrying a similar style -- whatever was popular at the moment. But this would've been ages ago. Maybe there's more variation today? Voting this Up and Useful.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 29, 2012:

Thanks so much for reading and commenting ChristyWrites. I appreciate your visit!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 29, 2012:

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment onlooker. I think my favorite is the nature dress. I am not prissy enough for a princess gown. I appreciate the read!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 29, 2012:

Thanks for the kind comment Lord de Cross. It is scary to imagine what the styles may be many years from now. As a mommy.. my daughter will not leave the house in anything resembling the "Bear it All Gown".. lol. Thanks so much for your visit.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on March 29, 2012:

Billybuc, I think you would look stunning in a princess gown with some pretty gloves and a tiara. :) Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I do feel very special.

Christy Birmingham from British Columbia, Canada on March 29, 2012:

What an interesting topic here Tammy! You are quite right that our appearance can say a lot about us, both our style and how we feel about ourselves. Vote up!

onlooker on March 29, 2012:

Tammy, what a fun and interesting way to find out ones personality. I was torn between the short and sassy dress and the red prom dress. I'd sport both at different occasions and my mood of course. You've hit home, I'd definitely add hot heels to my short, sassy dress and diamonds to my red. You know it girl! *) Thank you.

Joseph De Cross from New York on March 29, 2012:

Tammy, you have done an awesome presentation. This hub will be around forever. Green and well researched. I was 16 years from know better, what will be the trend, and what your precious thing would wear. We know mommy and she won't allow bad taste choices..!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on March 29, 2012:

I'm thinking the Princess gown is for me! What do you think? :) Excellent job of writing as usual, the pictures are great and I always love the way you construct your hubs. You are the only Hubber I would stop and read a hub on prom dresses for so feel very special today. :)
