Total Beauty: Home Skin Care Routine

I have been looking in the mirror quite a bit lately and I realized that this summer I want my skin to be radiant and have a nice glow. Since they say summer bodies are created in the winter then the same could be true about radiant summer skin.

Like most people, I don’t have the ability to spend my days getting spa treatments and facials so I have to create my own spa experience in my home. After lots of thought, I decided that a regular beauty segment would be perfect for the Fitness Fashionista.

What is Total Beauty?

Total Beauty will be all about beauty from head to toe. I am an avid product junkie so I will share with you all the current products I am in love with as well as the ones that don’t impress me much. Hopefully, you all will enjoy the Total Beauty series and my journey to total beauty as well as weight loss.

Home Skincare Routine

1) Steam Your Face

Most skin care routines say start with a clean face but I like to start my routine by steaming my face. I use steam to open up my pores to make it easier to get out all the dirt. You can use a big plastic bowl to fill it with hot water or/ microwave the water.

Once the water is all steamy I like to add a few drops of essential oil. I had tea tree if I am experiencing breakouts or peppermint for regular steam. Now if you are doing this right before bed you should use Lavender for calming. Then grab a big bath towel and cover your head and the bowl so that you can take in all the steam. Stay like this for about 5 mins.

Be very careful not to get too close to the water because you don’t want to get burned.

2) Wash and Exfoliate

Now you will want to wash away all those impurities in your skin and do a bit of exfoliation to get all the dead skin off as well. I like to use the Dermalogica Cleansing Skin Wash first then exfoliate with the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant.

3) Prep Face Before Apply Skincare Products

To prep my face I have recently started using the In & Out Health Derma Micro Needle Roller System. It's pretty cool because you rolling helps your skin to absorb your skincare product faster and penetrate deeper. I don’t use this every day you want to only use it about once a week for the first and second month and then drop down to about twice a month for the third and fourth month.

The Derma Roller can also be used to help with wrinkles, age spots, and scars. If you have cellulite and stretch marks like I do you can use them on those as well.

It helps tighten skin, reduce pore size, reduce dark pigmentation discoloration as well. You can also increase the effectiveness of the roller by adding collagen face masks, night creams, or serums made with natural or organic products.

Lately, I have been doing this before I add my calming spray and skin oil. I will definitely check back in with you to show you my results since I have been using it. The instructions say it can take 6weeks to 6 months to see results.

4) Calm it down and Oil it up

Once my face is all prepped I use my Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist to reduce and redness or I will use the Caudalie Paris Eau De Beaute (which has a bit of a tea tree smell). Now it's time to add the oil! Side note I was getting a professional facial and had told the lady that I felt like my skin was breaking out a lot and I thought that it was oily. The esthetician explained to me that what was happening was my skin was actually dry and was overproducing sebum to make up for it there for clogging my pores and causing breakouts.
