Women's heels, spikes and stilettos.
When I was a teen I loved shoes *still do* but I mostly loved spike heels. Every bit of money I made babysitting went for a new pair of shoes. I loved patent leather, any color and I loved the double colors like the oxford style. In my day, they were called spike or high heels. I never had trouble wearing them never seem to hurt my feet. Those were the days when my feet didn’t swell the way they do now.
I also liked heels because they attracted boys. That's what teenage girls live for. Boys seem to like those spike heels. Girls if you want to attract a boy wear those pretty heels.
Women look so good in them, heels make women's legs look longer. What's your story about spike and stiletto? What do you wear and do you like wearing stilettos?
I wore my spikes with nylon stockings, sometimes called hose, with the seam down the back. That seam was so hard to keep in place. We also had to have garters to hold the nylons up. No such thing as pantie hose. Some were called silk stockings I didn't wear them they were too expensive for me.
I see girls now wear their heels without pantie hose and I just don’t know how they can do that. I did at times wear nylons under my slacks and it was really hard to keep the garter belt bumps from showing on the slacks. I guess they still sell garter belts.
Fish Net Stockings
Now women are starting to wear the fishnet stockings or hosiery again. I remember wearing them when I was younger. I saw some while shopping the other day. They had such pretty designs, lacey with flowers, just like what I use to wear. I guess they're really called tights. I always think of tights as being warm the fishnet isn't warm.
Heels have changed so much since I was a teenager. They're now called stilettos. They are so pretty but no way could I wear them. They just look like they hurt and are not too comfortable.Celebrities have made the stiletto popular, mainly the Sex and The City girls. The stiletto name comes from the dagger by that name. Stiletto heels can be as high as 6 to 7 inches, they are so thin and sharp I don’t know how anyone stays up on them. How many ankles have been broken?
They're also worn with everything. Women wear them with jeans, crops, dresses, and skirts. I'm sure there are some women who wear them with shorts.
I wore heels to an outdoor wedding recently and kept getting my heels stuck in the mud.
Our daughter wore her heels the whole time she was in Las Vegas for three days and hurt her Achille's tendon. She was really in pain from it.
I often wonder what else will happen to women's feet. If they wear them all day long it can't be good.
There is also the pump. I think pumps are pretty and seem easier to wear than the stiletto. My granddaughter had some on the other day and they looked so cute on her.
The Granny Pump
I wear pumps now, but they're the little old lady pumps. Much safer for me.
A funny thing happened to me at my granddaughter's wedding. I bought new heels for her wedding with open toes and forgot to try them on with nylons when I bought them. Well, the nylons made them slippery and while going down the isle I walked right out of one of them. I had to come home dig around in my shoes and find a pair of heels to wear. The ones I put on from my closet were half size smaller and fit perfect. I wear a 5 1/2 part of the time that size is not always easy to find.

I love her look it really wouldn't look bad in this day and age without the gloves. There was a time when we wore gloves and hats for everything.

I have various types of heels in the 'spike' and 'stietto' heel range. I am fortunate to not be over weight, and reasonable flex in my ankles. the type of heel tip shoud also be a consideration where plastic tips will need replacing often if they are being used for a lot of walking. steel tis are noisier, but weat well. however some spike heels are less than 5mm in diameter and not really designed for lots of walking. (stiletto heels are 10mm dia)

rajan jolly, I don't really think it would be to hard for weight people to wear spikes or stilettos. I'm sure I have seen them on Oprah but I don't know how long she keeps them on. I think they can be hard on any weight even very skinny. When I was a teen no problem I could wear spikes all day and they never hurt my feet. Thanks for the vote.

Interesting read and I wonder how difficult it must be for weight people to wear spikes or stilettos.
Voted up and interesting.

Smireles, That's funny I don't know how she did it at 78. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.

I could never wear stilettos even when I was young. I did wear spike heels but I spent a lot of time on the ground... if you know what I mean. Today I still have trouble wearing flats, though. A good two inch heel or wedge is perfect for me in spite of age catching up with me. Five years ago I had a good laugh when my mother's cousin (Age 78) came with her husband to minister at our church. She was wearing tall spike heels with big buckles across her ankles. Some things you just cannot give up.

Peggy W, No kidding I would kill myself. I could wear them when I was young without a thought. If I could get away with I would go to town in my slippers. I hate putting on shoes. I have to check out your hub. Thanks for the vote and the share.

I got a kick out of reading this. Believe it or not, I used to wear high heeled shoes when I was attending college. Guess I am definitely dating myself here. Ha! I wrote a hub titled Can Wearing my High Heels Shoes cause Mortons Neuroma Surgery? Long story short...it did! At my age now I go for comfort. I'd probably kill myself trying to walk in some of these stiletto heels they show today. Voted up and shared.

I remember being so excited at my first spike heels for my prom.
Watching that video really made my feet hurt!
Now I am reaching for those flats...
This was a charming read of the sojourn of the shoe through the years!
Voted UP and UABI. Hugs, Maria

I don't think the spikes on spike heels were as hight as some Stilettos and not as thin. Thanks DaisyChain for stopping by and leaving comment.

Are spikes less high than stilettos? They look beautiful but expect both bad for your feet! I've added a link from this to my article about shoes in the news.

I started wearing spikes when I was about 13, most of the shoes my bought were spikes. I have never worn a stiletto because like you they look dangerous tome. I like pumps because they are comfortable.
Nice little hub!
