Religious quote tattoos and ideas

God Quotes Tattoos

After writing over two dozen articles on tattoo ideas that showcased pictures as the majority of the content, I started noticing that a large portion of the comments was from people asking for ideas on what to say, not so much on how to say it. Like Lindsay, for example, who commented on the article Tattoo Ideas: Words & Phrases and said, "I want some sort of latin script with a phrase having to do with karma." Or Jesso, who said: "I have a colourful fish on my left lower back, but next I want a script.. .. just what I don't know... something positive to remind me every day is mine, I am in control of my destiny."

The tricky thing about quote tattoos is that nine times out of ten, they can't be too long. Unless you have a huge expanse of skin that you plan on dedicating to the tat, like a forearm or your entire back, you're going to need to pick a quote that's short enough to fit in a small area. A few years ago my girlfriend wanted to get something I had written tattooed on her in my handwriting. The quote she wanted was 21 words long, and she wanted it somewhere on her inner forearms. As she is already fairly heavily tattooed, there was no need to consider getting it in a place that could be easily hidden if need be. She's lucky. She ended up getting it running lengthwise down her arm next to the word GIRL that was already there. Most people don't have the same flexibility as her. Maybe your job is too professional for tattoos and piercings, or you don't want your mother to see it. If that's the case, then a quote tattoo can be challenging to find space for. And if you think you're going to fit an entire poem (unless it's a haiku) on your wrist by shrinking down the letters to a size 5 font, you're mistaken. Good tattoo artists will only let you make the lettering so small because they know that tattoos blend, fade, and bleed over time. The smaller the font, the better the chance that you'll be left with a meaningless blob 10 years down the road. So although there are millions of wonderful quotes about the beauty of love, I've tried to only assemble the ones that are on the shorter side, while still being meaningful.

I went back through all 2,000+ comments on my previous articles and tried to identify the most common themes people requested when asking for help with quote ideas. In addition to being a voracious reader, I've been compiling quotes in notebooks and journals since I was 13. Please, if you have any ideas or would like to share a favorite quote of yours, feel free to comment! The examples I've chosen for this particular article may not resonate with everyone. You might read it and get nothing out of it. But my hope is that something will resonate with someone, somewhere, and the words written here will inspire you to take a step you may not have taken otherwise.

The bible is the word of God, technically in black and white but its not as simple as reading it and following it word for word, things can be interpreted in different ways. It is there as a guide. We as humans are sinful by nature and as Christians chose to do the right thing and be examples of Christ. It is not our place to judge those who don't believe, it is our job as Christians to be good examples of Christ and pray for the salvation of all mankind. If anyone wants to get tattooed then that is their perogative, just because Christians get tattoos doesn't make them any less of a Christian. God has given us free will to live our life. There will always be those fighting for and against Christianity. Why do some people blame God for the problems of this world and yet participate in things like Christmas and Easter which are holidays that revolve around Christ...Most of the Western world revolves around Christ. In america there money states 'In God we trust',The bible is the number one top selling book in the world, people have been killed in some countries to own one...Why is 'Jesus Christ' or 'Oh my God' used as profanity? You don't hear any one walking around saying 'Muhummad' 'Ghandi' or 'Oh my Allah' as swear words.Im pretty sure Charles Darwin, creator of evolution became a christian before he died. For those on here who aren't believers in Jesus Christ then why don't you do all the research yourself, try out different churches, open yourself up for the possibilty that it is real and maybe you will find what you have been looking/searching for all your life, if not then at least you can say you've looked into it..instead of shutting it down completely and insulting people on here who have a faith in Jesus Christ and are making public declarations of their faith...not only on here, but in writing (Ink) We can all be opiniated and feel th eneed to justify ourselves but theres a difference between having your opinion and being downright insultive.

Firstly, I believe in god I do not got to church, and I do not pray, so what this means he will judge me for getting a nice cross and prayer tat on my calf, we will all have our own beliefs, in different ways, if u don't believe u r not forced but why upset this whole forum which is supposed to be about quotes I don't care what anyone thinks weather u r not supposed to get tats or not, I have my belief that I will meet him one day and he gives me faith and watches over me and my family, secondly the Guys big tat on his back is missing the g in strength, poor thing not much he can do now :(

What's truly sad is what most of these comments are. I came here to see what fonts were used for ideas on a tattoo I'm considering, then see a bunch of people doing the usual arguing about if there is a God or not. Some believe and some don't. How about acting like intelligent individuals and worry about yourself and your belief in god (or non-belief).

valley on February 03, 2012:

That is so true Mandy, we must show love and compassion to others who persecute us and our beliefs no matter how hard it is( and it is ), but our faith is what seperates us from those without. To all those who ridicule my religion I will pray for you and your understanding that one day your life might be changed so you can be saved and live eternally. To my fellow belivers turn your cheek as Jesus did, but rest assure in thought that you are eternal and no one can take that away from you. And on another note why do people care about why we belive in God, why does it matter to anyone who doesn't belive and why are you guys so passonate in trying to disprove our Gods exsistance. Im just saying if he's not real why people try so hard to say he doesn't exsist.

Mandy on January 18, 2012:

I hope that you all know Lucy's really agenda was to offend you and if you let it work she has won. Is it not the bible that says to turn the other cheek?

asleepindelaware on November 12, 2011:

I was going to say that I am surprised by all the comments left by people who don't believe in Christianity and by all who believe in Christianity.

There are many fonts, sizes, styles, colors or whatever for you to get ideas for creating the tattoo that is just right for you.

Regardless if you do or don't believe in Christianity isn't why these tattoos are being shared. The artwork that is shown is art no matter what your beliefs are and here for everyone to admire.

After you are done getting some ideas why is it important to you to post a comment that goes against what others have said?

You are waisting YOUR time on earth posting on a web page. I'm not telling you how to manage or what to do with YOUR time, that's on you.

I was thinking that I'm certain you would have a ton of other things that bring joy to your heart then posting on a web page. Even putting a load of laundry in the washer is more exciting, I would think.

Posting of negative comments or comments that go against/are opposite the web pages foundation is done for only the purpose of getting a reaction. I would say the same in a reverse situation. If this page was for Quotes on Anti-Faith in anything except yourself, No God and Bible is fake then someone with Christian beliefs or someone who has faith in someone or something else posted comment putting down what the web page is about, telling them they are wrong, quoting Bible verses or from what they follow, judging them and not being able to get their point across without utilizing all the curse words they know IS just as ridiculous and pointless.

If I am on a satanic web page looking for something, I either find it or not but I keep it moving. They are not going to nor willing to read about my Christianity and beliefs. I don't blame them, they aren't on that site to argue beliefs. If they had questions about different beliefs they would go to a web page that supports that or find the closest church, synagogue, etc and go there for answers. Me badgering and throwing out random thought or quotes does nothing for anyone. It does waist MY precious time here on earth. Maybe you know how much time you will have to be with your family and friends but I don't. So any minute waisted is one less moment enjoying life.

The End of my two cents worth.

Have a great day everyone :)

i have a question for you "God" believers: If there is a high and mighty God, and if he does exist then why do little kids, the most innocent things on this planet, get molested and raped? Who in there right mind would allow something like that if they could stop it? Sorry to burst your bubble but there is NO God. We came from evolution and science points to it. Who created God and how is it possible that a human came from a rib?

fizel on September 20, 2011:

god gave us the freedom of choice to chosse if we want a tatoo i think there are far worser things to worry bout than tatooing ourself

Caitlin on September 14, 2011:

One thing that I truly believe in is that if you are Christian, witness, but do not forcefully put your beliefs on someone that doesn't have the same belief system. It causes conflict. If they don't believe and they don't want to hear you out, continuing the conversation only causes them to feel angry because you are belittling their thoughts. Let them believe in what they feel is correct and let go of their petty comments. Also, unless you are without sin, don't cast the first stone. If I must interpret to the believers on here... don't judge. You're not holier than thou. This goes for judging belief systems and actions. I have tattoos. Don't judge me. That isn't your job to worry about me. Worry about your own slate and how to clean it up. Only God will judge me in the end and then I shall repent for my shortcomings.

This is a perfect example of what i am going thru in my own personal life right now and God is showing me humans are all born sinners first then saved by Grace its all about different spiritual levels ,,, doesn't mean any one of us are less just not where the other is,,,

and the one universal language we all want is to be Love ,,,

God knew that ,,,JOHN 3:16-17

John 3:16 (King James Version)

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17 (King James Version)

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

1 John 4:8 (King James Version)

8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Romans 5:8 (King James Version)

8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

2 Peter 3:9 (King James Version)

9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

1 Peter 5:8 (King James Version)

8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Ephesians 6:11 (King James Version)

11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

John 10:10 (King James Version)

10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Lexie on March 09, 2011:

Lucy, and others like her. "bless those who are prosecuted in my name, and bless those who prosecute," you are loved by god. You should be loved by every one of us "christians". As you are also a child of god. I'm not going to persuade you, but answer me this question. "if there is no creator, none at all, where did life begin? Remember, "nothing" can not create anything. Something cannot come of nothing. Earth, the sun, the moon and the stars, it all came from somewhere. Science has yet to prove even 1 thing in the bible as wrong. Jesus (even if you don't believe he is the son of god) was intact an actual person, who lived and died. Historians, news men, and nonbelievers of his time have recorded And documented his life, and his miracles. Even if you don't believe in "god" there is a Creator. Who gave us the right to do as we choose. We are toxic to everything we touch. Why is there violence? We choose to let hatred and anger rule over our actions. Why is there STDs? we cannot be honest, and choose to give up our purity. Why war? Our nations choose to stand up in defense, instead of understanding. Our life is ours to make, and our future is too. What this life and earth is now, is what we have made it.

To all so called christians who let rage take over them when reading there post, was there ever a time you were lost? Angry? Did anyone show you the way? Or were you left to figure it out on your own?

A quote to all of you "god, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change."

I'm stunned to see the way people have responded to Lucy and any others on this page that don't believe in God. It breaks my heart to hear or read that but for "christians" to be telling her to suck a dick or to shove off or telling her she will be banging her head against walls in hell should be truly ashamed of themsleves. I'm sure Jesus wouldn't have told anyone that. He would welcome her with open arms, and love her either way. The bible says "he who is without sin cast the first stone." None of you or I are Jesus so none of us are without sin and might need to look at yourself before you throw pun at lucy or anyone.

we have a meaning to life. the purpose of living is to serve the lord! Yes he may not do miracles for your own personal self right now but he in the end you will be judged. How is it that prople were on this planet? Where do you go after this life? Instead of making rude comments go to church. You need to understand the truth.,, the word of God.
