Stuck in the 50s - Rockabilly Style Clothing Online Shopping for Women

Kitty went to school for fashion design and merchandising. She loves to design, sew, and create fashion inspired by the past.

Rockabilly Dress (the Lindy Bop):

Vintage Rockabilly

To be successful in creating your own Vintage Rockabilly look, you will need to know the best websites to find those key 1950s rockabilly pieces. This is assuming that you already know what the 1950s rockabilly style entails (think cute cropped cardigans, full circle skirts, cat-eye glasses, saddle shoes, bakelite accessories). Now my first suggestion, right off the bat...you guessed it...eBay! Yes, we are all tired of the overpriced and overworked system that eBay has become, but there are still some square deals to find when it comes to classic 1950s rockabilly vintage dresses, skirts, and blouses. eBay also has a cornucopia of sassy vintage purses and handbags to choose from. All you need to do is go to www.ebay.com and do a search on vintage dresses or rockabilly vintage dresses or whatever else you are craving that day.

Another great site to shop for those staple 50's rockabilly pieces is rustyzipper.com. This site has wonderful pricing and is truly honest about the quality of the vintage that is being sold. Remember, when purchasing vintage online you need to know the quality and conditions of each piece. Rustyzipper.com makes this aspect of online vintage shopping a piece of cherry cake! Look for the condition details within the description of the item of interest. Usually they will mark something as Deadstock (which means it is vintage but still has a tag - never worn), Like New, Great, Good or Needs Some Love. If you choose a vintage item that is in need of some care, you might want to have some basic and advanced skills of sewing. Some vintage pieces require a lot of mending and work in order to bring them up to a wearable standard. Whatever you choose from this vintage site, make it your own by adding your own fabulous rockabilly accessories, be they vintage or VLV. I prefer to dress up my rockabilly vintage dresses with a basket purse in the Spring or a vintage clutch for a date night.

If you are looking for an extremely exciting and melancholic online vintage shopping experience, you will not want to forget about etsy.com. I preach this site in many of my other hubs and I'll preach about it again here. When you do a search for vintage, select "Vintage" from the top dropdown box and type "50s Dresses" or "50s shirts" or "rockabilly dresses"...you will find that the search results are in the hundreds and many have wonderful prices. As with other vintage sellers, some items are overpriced but if you are patient you will find a unique something for a rockin' deal.

VLV Rockabilly Clothing

In addition to some fabulous rockabilly vintage pieces that can be found online, there are also quite a few websites that specialize in rockabilly & pin-up style clothing, that is more than comparable to the classic vintage deals you can find on the vintage websites mentioned above. My first and most favorite rockabilly clothing website would have to be pinupgirlclothing.com. Their wide array of pin-up style dresses, rockabilly t-shirts, and pin-up style shoes grab my full attention, every time I visit the site. Some samples of what they have for sale in the store are shown to the right. Isn't that dare-devil red dress to die for? They also have a wide array of rockabilly and pin-up lingerie that can be added to your "nightly" wardrobe to spice up your life...50's rockabilly boudoir style. Don't forget to check out their line of pin-up dresses by Pin-up Couture - super lovely fabric and beautifully constructed pieces. This website makes it quite easy for a girl to find the rockabilly staples she yearns for, so find what you cannot live without and buy yourself an early Birthday present!

Another wonderful rockabilly and pin-up clothing website is babygirlboutique.com. Not only can you find the most adorable retro style rockabilly swimwear here, but you can also find a whole page of merchandise dedicated to polka dots! Any rockabilly lady worth her salt knows how imperative it is to donn a polka dot poodle skirt...at least once in a lifetime. Babygirlboutique also offers a wide array of pin-up style lingerie and amazing retro pumps and saddle shoes. Check out some of their items on sale now in the pictures below.

And last but not least, in the world of Very-Like-Vintage Rockabilly shopping, you simply must take a peek at starletsandharlets.com. This rockabilly site offers great prices on 50's style dresses, punk rock tees, retro rockabilly jewelry, retro sunglasses, and every retro item in between! They also have a section for baby's clothes and men's clothes...if you are looking to deck out your family members in rockabilly threads, too. Merchandise on sale now is also pictured below.

If these suggestions still do not quench your rockin' thirst for rockabilly rags, you can create your own rockabilly look. You can always consult classic 1950s movies and music to find your inspiration for your new rockabilly wardrobe.

Thanks for the hub Kitty the dreamer. I remember those wide round skirt outfits from my tortured teen days. The 50's was the last decade that I had to wear dresses, skirts and itchy uncomfortable crinolines. But I did like my saddle shoes. Some had a little buckle at the heel and were considered"cool."
