RIBBON TATTOOS, CANCER TATTOOS AND MEANINGS

Ribbon tattoos are a popular decorative tattoo that can be added to a variety of different tattoo designs. Ribbon tattoos can also be a very symbolic tattoo for those who wear it. Cancer ribbon tattoos are often chosen by those who have fought the battle against cancer, being a survivor or not. Ribbon tattoos can also be portrayed alone in cute bows and cute designs. Ribbons are also used to create inspiration words, such as hope, cure, love, and faith. The ribbon tattoo designs in this article will portray such examples.

Although there are many ways that ribbons can be used, the most common and popular use is in cancer ribbon tattoos. If you don't know by now, each cancer is appointed a specific color pattern to bring awareness for that specific cancer. Just as one would wear a ribbon on their shirt, cancer ribbon tattoos are wore with pride, dignity, and hope. Most of us know someone that has had cancer. Most of us know the uneven odds they face in their fight. For those who fought the battle against cancer and won, there is no greater symbol then the cancer ribbon tattoo. For those who wear this tattoo proudly, it represents courage, bravery, and strength.

Cancer ribbon tattoos are also worn as a memorial, a tattoo that honors someone that has lost their fight against cancer. There are many of us that know someone that has passed from cancer. Such tattoos would include the appropriate ribbon for their cancer. If you lost a mother or father, you may have "mom" or "dad" inked within the tattoo. Some people choose to put the date of birth or date of death. Someone may want to get "In Loving Memory" inked in the design or something to that nature. One creative idea is to have your ribbon pinned to a cross. You could also add quotes or Bible verses to this type of tattoo.

Cancer ribbon tattoos often include single words within the ribbon or outside of the ribbon. These words are always associated to the battle of cancer. They can also be the symbolic meaning of the tattoo. Below, you can find a few of these words that are often chosen for cancer ribbon tattoos.

Tessa, I would be glad to help. Of course, the appropriate colored ribbons need to be used. You could choose a sacred heart as the center. A wolf represents family, as well as a lion. I am thinking one of these as a center. Maybe also, you could have their names inked inside the ribbons. Such words as strength, faith, hope, determination, just. Perhaps a character or animal with the ribbons on a necklace around its neck. Could be a lion or rhino, even the wolf. Maybe the tree of life with the ribbons or a Celtic knot tattoo. Think of your heritage, where you came from, and what your family means to you.

*Alocsin, glad you were able to take away something from this article. I believe its main purpose was awareness, but now, it is so much more. A true inspirational tattoo.

*Rosemay, thanks for your comment, time, and votes. Besides tattoos, this is an educational article. It shows how we can bring awareness to specific cancers by colors. You can use them to support those who are in the ultimate battle.

This is an education -- was not aware that the different colors on a ribbon meant different cancers. I thought the differing colors stood for different diseases. Voting this Up and Interesting.
