Peace Sign Tattoos
When it comes to popular symbols known throughout the world, the peace sign ranks toward the top. The peace sign has been a longtime symbol that represents peace and tranquility. The peace sign is well known all across the globe and it has been marketed on shirts, key chains, stickers, posters, and jewelry. The peace sign will forever be a reminder of the 1960s and 1970s. Even after all these years, the peace sign tattoo still has a demand.
The peace sign has a variety of different associations other then being a known emblem of world peace. The peace sign has also been a symbol of the anti-war movement. During trying times of war in the 1960s and 1970s, anti-war supporters would demonstrate with the peace sign. During this time, famous phrases such as "make love, not war" were first born. The peace sign also became a symbol associated to the hippie culture. They would wear their hair long, press for world peace, and use hippie words such as "groovy".
The peace sign tattoo is a great choice for those who lived through the hippie culture or experienced it. The baby boomer era is now reaching the ages of 50 and beyond. If you have been thinking about getting inked, perhaps you should consider the peace sign tattoo. Some people that lived through this culture choose the peace sign tattoo because they feel a connection to it, an association. Many people that I speak too say that the hippie era was the best time of their life. The peace sign tattoo would then make a great connection to those great memories and moments.
The peace sign tattoo can be done in a variety of different variations. The traditional peace sign includes a three pronged symbol facing downward and it is surrounded by a circle. This way is known as the traditional peace sign. The traditional peace sign design is the most common, but designs are beginning to change as tattoo artist continue to demonstrate their own creative art on such traditional designs. Some peace sign tattoo designs can be done as tribal tattoo designs or Celtic tattoo designs. Before you make a final choice on your design, remember to look through all the different variations of the peace sign tattoo.
The peace sign tattoo is worn by both men and women. Since the peace sign is so diverse, there is really no preference between both sexes. One difference that is seen between men and women is color choice in their tattoo design, but it is minor. Women may choose softer colors in their designs, such as pink or purple. Men usually tend to stay away from those two colors, but not all men. Both men and women choose peace sign tattoo designs that are very colorful and include all different types of colors. All though this is true, some peace sign tattoo designs are done in single colors.
One great thing about the peace sign tattoo is that it comes in a variety of different sizes. When the peace sign tattoo is done correctly, it looks great big or small. Since the peace sign looks good at any size, it can be inked nearly anywhere on the body. If you prefer a larger sized peace sign tattoo design, people usually choose the back, shoulders, arms, or legs. The chest and the stomach are also possible locations. Small peace sign tattoo designs can be placed anywhere on the body, almost anywhere that is.

Annie, thank you for taking the time to drop by. I am so sorry to hear about your son Annie. Just writing this shows courage and bravery Annie. No mother should have to go through this. The peace sign tattoo is a softer tattoo and in this case, is what you should get tattooed. Perhaps the heart can be centered with two small peace signs on each side, which represents you and your son. The one heart could represent that you two are as one, that you and your son share the same heart. You could also get a peace sign tattoo with two heart on the sides. You can always add a rose to it also.

Hello thelyricwriter, thank you for this hub full of tattoo inspiration. I have seen your tattoo hubs around but have never really been too interested to have a look. I am 52 years old and have never had any desire to have a tattoo. When my son was about 16 - 17 he wanted a peace tattoo on his neck. His father was mortified and I wasn't too keen on the idea though I did take an interest in the designs he came up with at the time. He didn't go ahead with it. Today walking home from work I remembered that time and my son's wishes. My son passed away 18 months ago. A crazy thought came into my mind and I thought that I would like to have a little tattoo done - a peace symbol for my son. My family will think I am crazy, but the more I think about it the more strongly I feel about it. I knew where to come for inspiration and you haven't let me down. I like the peace symbol within a heart, simple, but love and peace in one. I am going to read some more of your hubs and think some more about this, and for now my family don't need to know anything. Thank you so much for providing the inspiration I am now looking for. My votes and best wishes from Annie.

Alastar, thanks for taking the time to drop by. You do make an interesting point Alastar. I have seen a few tats like that myself. I don't honestly know about the format. I thought everyone's was like this. Yours is not?
Alastar Packer from North Carolina on April 12, 2012:
Very eye-catching, all these different peace symbol tats. Good history and descriptions by you too lyric. Hey, some in the know say the Hippies and everyone has the sign up-side down, down into the ground which is negative; turned around it's the tree of life, positive. Oh and why is the format setting on your hubs different lyric?
Richard Ricky Hale (author) from West Virginia on April 12, 2012:
Thank you all for all your support and kind words my friends.

Another wonderful hub LW! This is definitely one of my favourites. I think because when I was a kid I remember the older ones going around dressed as hippies and I thought they were so exotic and cool!! I was fascinated by the fact that some guys had hair as long as mine!! LOL! I remember seeing this sign for peace a lot but didn't know what it meant then of course.
My favourite tatoos are a couple that are shown on the foot with flowers - they are very beautiful indeed and the artwork is awesome!
Another thoroughly fascinating and absorbing hub! Voted up + awesome + beautiful!!

Michael Phoenix from Allentown, pa on April 05, 2012:
Great Hub! I love the layout, the way you spaced the descriptions with the photos. The way you explained the various meanings and colors is something helpful for people who are getting their first peace symbol.
I have one intertwined with a black rose. Peace sign symbolism: life.
Again, great article and definitely voted up!
