In the cold months of winter it gets a bit tricky to look sexy and chic in saree, as most designs are off limits due to the weather conditions. Of course, more often than not, ladies are up for the challenge of looking great at the expense of comfort. Finding a balance between fashion and comfort is the best place to be in winter. Velvet is a great material to use when it comes to saree blouses, as it's thick, has the feel of warmth, and gives a little more protection from the cold than other materials. This winter, velvet saree blouses have made an entrance on the scene of party wear in India and Bangladesh.
Velvet saree blouses are so gorgeous because velvet has deep and vibrant colours like no other material. Velvet materials catch light in a very different manner. Velvet gives a very regal and royal look to any outfit and is best suited for evening wear.
There are two basically two types of velvet material: one is stretchy and the other is non-stretchy. When thinking of making a velvet saree blouse, always use non-stretchy velvet. The reason is that it is almost impossible to make a perfectly fitted blouse out of stretchy velvet fabric; the neckline will not sit well and the arms will look shabby. Also the tailor will be unable to use an ordinary sewing machine to make a good velvet blouse if the velvet stretches.
Avoid Full-Length Velvet Sleeves
Unless your tailor has magic fingers and your arms are super slender, avoid wearing full sleeves made of velvet material for sarees. Full-sleeve velvet saree blouses can easily look tacky.
The way to wear full-length sleeves on a velvet saree blouse is to make the sleeves themselves with some other material, like chiffon, net, or georgette. Just use the velvet for the bodice and to make a thick 4- to 5-inch border at the cuff.

Look Regal in a Velvet Saree Blouse
Velvet looks regal, due to its rich and deep colour which can be achieved by no other material. To look even more regal, go for for a high collar as in this picture on the right of Sridevi in a purple velvet saree blouse with high-neck collar and gold embroidery and embellishment.
Red and Maroon Velvet Saree Blouse Styles
Celebrities are constantly seen to be sporting velvet saree blouses in shades of red and maroon. The reason behind this could be that reds and maroons pop in velvet material, and look absolutely divine when made into gorgeous saree blouses. Also red and maroon velvet blouses can be worn with many different sarees due to their versatility. A red or maroon sari blouse can be worn with a matching saree or with contrasting coloured sarees like gold, off-white, black and green.
