Virgil Abloh was the creative director of French fashion house Louis Vuitton and the world-renowned creator of the brand Off White has died at the age of 41.
Louis Vuitton announced on Sunday 28, November 2021 that Abloh had died on Sunday after a long and silent battle with cancer.
The boss of the company behind Louis Vuitton LVMH, Bernard Arnault said:
"Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary; he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom."
Abloh broke barriers and achieved massive success throughout his career in the fashion industry. The son of Ghanaian born parents, Abloh was raised in Chicago and was a qualified engineer and architect.
His creativity blossomed when he joined forces with rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West in 2002. His success working with Kanye West and Jay-Z spurred Abloh on to create his own streetwear brand, Off-White.
Abloh did not study fashion officially however, his mother is a seamstress and he also took inspiration from music as it was no secret that Abloh was a huge Michael Jackson fan.
Abloh worked tirelessly in the fashion industry and in the music industry as a DJ despite privately battling a rare form of cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma.
He leaves behind his wife, two children, his sister and his parents.
