You will discover the amazing beauty benefits of Oats and understand why it is so common in face masks.
Oats Composition and your Face
Oats contain a specific type of fiber known as beta-glucan, which has been researched for almost 50 years and proved to be of a great benefit to cardiovascular diseases, high cholesterol levels and high blood sugar levels. Beta-glucan has been investigated also for its effects on the skin, and proved valuable benefits to face beauty.
In a recent study, 300 women were given a topical cream containing mostly beta-glucan, to evaluate its effect on signs of aging of skin and it had found that :
- 27 percent improvement in skin hydration after 8 weeks of using the regimen twice daily
- 47 percent improvement in lines and wrinkles
- Increase of elasticity by 60 percent
- Improvement in skin color by 26 percent
- Renewal increase by 34 percent
Oats are a good source of Selenium which is a trace element. It is an antioxidant which protects cell membranes from the effects of free radicals, preserves tissue elasticity and youthfulness of skin.
Selenium is involved in DNA repair and is associated with a reduced risk for cancer. Research has revealed that relatively high serum Selenium concentrations, are associated with an approximately %60 decrease in, subsequent tumor incidence of both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.
Selenium integrates the antioxidant system involving vitamins E and C, which protects tissues from the harmful effects of free radicals.
Oats are a good source of Magnesium which is the fourth abundant mineral in the body. It is present either inside the cells or in the bones, and the body works very hard to preserve the only %1 present in the blood.
Proper cell functions would not occur without Magnesium, which is needed for energy production and protein metabolism, among 300 biochemical reactions. Some diabetics, alcoholics, and older adults may suffer from magnesium deficiency, and there are many products for the skin that contain magnesium salts.
Magnesium is absorbed through the skin, and actually skin is one of its important routes of administration. Magnesium salts are particularly useful in soothing and healing the damaged skin. Magnesium penetrates all layers of skin.
Oats are an excellent source of Manganese which is a trace element that is present in amount of 20 mg in the body. It works as a coenzyme that facilitates various metabolic processes in the body. Manganese helps the body to utilize nutrients that are important for the skin like, Biotin, Thiamine, Choline and Vitamin C.
It is involved in formation of connective tissue. It increases the activity of the enzyme Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD), which prevents the superoxide free radical from destruying cellular components.
