Manscaping Tips For Men

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

Male Body hair is a strange Phenomenon you either have it in abundance all over your body or you have very little hair except in your pubic areas and under your arm pits.

Those men who have a lot of body hair wish that they had less of it and those who like myself have very little body hair wish we had a little more.

Male body hair removal is a hot trend at the moment as more and more men decide to go for the clean smooth and fresh look.

Manscaping is the term used when a man removes hair from below the neckline including the chest, back, under arms, private parts, the arms and the legs.

There are three methods used to remove male body hair waxing, shaving and hair removal creams.

Back and Chest Hair

Male Back Waxing

Shaving your chest hair

Back and Chest Hair Removal

Back hair and chest hair is considered sexy by some women but a lot of women prefer their man to be hairless "If I want something hairy to cuddle into in bed I would sleep with my teddy bear"

It is all about personal choice swimmers bodybuilders, sprinters and speed cyclists all remove their body hair believing that it enhances their performance although there is very little evidence to prove that this works.

A lot of men remove chest and back hair simply because the hair itches sometimes especially if they have dry or sensitive skin, and chest hair has a tendency to get caught on things like neck chains or even buttons on shirts, others remove chest and back hair because they prefer the look.

Waxing Chest and back hair is probably the best option especially if the hair is thick in those areas, although waxing can be very painful it is quick, effective and lasts for up to 6 months at a time. Despite the fact that there are thousands of self waxing products on the market these days I would personally recommend that you spend a little extra money and get a professional to do it in a beauty salon.

Shaving Chest and back hair is a cheaper option although if the hair is thick in those areas it may be wise to invest in an electric hair trimmer like those used in a hair dressers or barbers shop, use the trimmer to cut the hair then get a razor blade or an electric shaver and shave the finer hairs.

Shaving your back is almost impossible ask your partner or a trusted friend to help you.

Get your friend to start at the top of your neck and work their way down, going with the grain, shaving down the way towards your buttocks.

Starting at the top of your chest shave down towards your belly button, going with the grain, taking extra care around the nipple area we don't want any slip ups there if you really want to be totally hairless I would recommend that you use tweezers to remove hair from the nipple area.

Creams and Gels

There are a whole heap of creams on the market for male body hair removal but many of these are quite ineffective on thicker and longer hair. If you do wish to try one of these creams I would recommend that you use them when your hair starts growing again after either shaving or waxing.

Always follow the manufacturers instructions when using creams or gels and test a little on your skin before going the whole hog in-case you have an allergic reaction.

Arm pit Shaving

Removing hair from Arm Pits, Arms and Legs

When a man removes his top his partner expects to see a little body hair especially in his arm pits and although most women shave under their arm pits they don't expect it from a man.

Waxing is a quick and effective way of removing hair from your pits but I can vouch for this it is very very sore, it brought tears to my eyes when i did it for a dare.

If you choose to go for a chest and back wax by a professional you would be just as well asking for a full body waxing and have all of your body hair removed at the same time.

Waxed hair takes around 6 months to start growing back but is the pain really worth it?

Shaving is probably the best method for removing arm pit hair it is quick painless and lasts for around 3 to 4 weeks however there are folds of skin to be found under your arm pits so take care not to cut yourself.

Arms and Legs are probably the easiestpart of your body toshave, they take minutes and the hair will not grow back for 2-3 weeks.

As with any shaving method follow the hair growth if the hair is pointing down shave down the way if it is pointing up then shave up the way.

Creams or Gels are quite effective on arm pits but if you have thick or long hair in that area then creams and gels work best if used when the hair starts to grow back after shaving or waxing.

Below the Belt

Pubic bone, Butt and Private Parts

Removing hair from the Belly button to the private parts otherwise known as the pubis or the pubic bone is the same as the methods above.

Waxing is quick but painful and lasts for about 6 months.

Shaving is quick and relatively painless and lasts for up to 4 weeks but be very careful not to slip you may never be the same again.

The privates are a different story though great care must be taken when you tackle your tackle

Waxing is out of the question for your meat and your 2 veg, it would just be too painful to even contemplate.

Shaving is possible but one slip and you will have a high voice for the rest of your life.

Creams or gels are the best option for hair removal on your sensitive privates although you must be sure to choose a product that does not burn the hair off or you could have a nasty accident.

Another option would be to use small scissors and trim these areas taking your time and being very careful that you only cut the hair and nothing more.

Butt Hair Removal is one of those male grooming jobs that requires you to be quite uninhibited, simply because you either need the help of a professional or of a well trusted friend.

Waxing is probably the best way to remove the hair from your rear end as it is quick and effective and will not need to be done again for around 6 months.

Shaving is also quick and effective lasting for around 4-6 weeks.

Creams and Gels can also be effective but be sure to test them on a small piece of skin first in-case of allergies.

Trimming the meat and 2 veg is the safest option.

be very very careful

Good article, but IMHO, armpit hair on both men and women are nothing short of disgusting. I shave my armpit hair weekly and have done so for years. I have never had anyone comment on my hair-free armpits, nor would I really care what they would think either. It's my body and I choose to be well groomed. Yes I am a man. We are humans, not apes. Now if I could get my head to grow hair like my armpits and ears, I wouldn't mind at all.

That's my two cents worth, have a great day.

Wonderful writing and very interesting. I hope this teaches and motivates more men to manscape and continue to look great!

My mother in law used to do what was called sugaring. Same concept as waxing. But it always looked so darn painful especially for the gorilla types :) Interesting article.

Great job on a >um< delicate subject, Jimmy! As a relatively hirsute man myself, I'm glad fashion is shifting more to "au natural" than shaved, but among the real gorillas out there, some manscaping will always have to be done. :)

Interesting read :) as a woman I HAD to see where you went with this. You hit on some private issues in a professional yet straight forward manner. (But I still got a giggle about butt hair - sorry!)

Hi RealHousewife, thanks for stopping by, I am very lucky that I dont really need to shave anywhere except my face and sometimes my head. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to shave your own back or crack lol.....jimmy

Well I was curious about the title first - as a female interesting - and I will never ever complain about having to shave my legs. Seems so easy compared to my back;) lol

Jimmy the jock (author) from Scotland on September 24, 2011:

Thanks for your comment Gordon, alas I suffer with the same problem concerning head hair maybe its because i used that anti dandruff shampoo wash and go, I washed my hair went.

good luck on your fishing trip I hope that you get that big one that always seems to escape from me lol.....jimmy

Gordon Hamilton from Wishaw, Lanarkshire, United Kingdom on September 24, 2011:

Interesting concept, Jimmy! Any ideas on how to transfer chest hair to head...??? :)

I am at the stage now that I just shave my head occasionally when I shave my face and it keeps things simpler. There's more grows on my face anyway! The rest of my body gets left very much to its own devices in this respect.

I have heard the one about swimmers etc shaving for enhanced performance. They would have to be pretty damned hairy, though, for it to cause increased drag in the water... I've got a mate who's a professional swimming coach and I'm fishing with him Tuesday. I must remember to ask him.
