Lusters Pink Hair Lotion Review

Love fashion, jewelry, and bling. I am on on-line entrepreneur and creating wealth and success from the comfort of my home!

Luster's Moisturizing Lotion

Luster's PINK Moisturizing Lotion bottles could be found in bathrooms, bedrooms, and salons as far back as the 70s! It has been one of those products that have been able to stand the test of time.

However, slippery the styling slope could be! You see, as most of you know, styling products, especially, moisturizers often will fall out of favor when something else new and improved comes along!

Luster's Pink Moisturizer Lotion

This essential moisturizer is enriched with ProVitamin B5 to hydrate and strengthen hair from the inside-out.

Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizer Hair Lotion

Lusters' Pink Hair Lotion has been around for as long as I can remember doing my own hair. I must admit that for most of that time I've tried this product two or three times. I could never figure out just the right amount to put on my relaxed hair before it looked wet and greasy.

Since I've gone natural in April 2010, I've decided to revisit this product.

Pink Oil Moisturizer Hair Lotion Usage

This hair lotion should be used to stop hair breakage, it should condition dry hair and scalp. It states that it helps to prevent split ends. It is also used to prevent damage to hair when applying heat to your hair.

I have noticed that users, who were children when this product was used by the mothers, claim that the Pink Oil grew their hair to great lenghts.  Some felt that this happened partially because the Pink Oil kept the hair "wet," moisturizes the hair and scalp.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Most African American young girls were reared with the product which yielded great results and or faithful to its usage despite the fact that it has mineral oil as an ingredient.

This hair lotion can be used on caucasian hair as well as biracial and african american hair.

Product works well when heat is applied.

Cons

Mineral Oil and Petroleum are two products that most natural (and relaxed) hair wearers try not to put on their hair because these ingredients do not allow the hair to absorb moisture. Mineral oil has been termed "the killer of African American hair."

A "good moisturizer" should penetrate the hair shaft and infuse the hair strands with moisture.

It has the tendency to "weigh down" medium to fine hair and making it appear/look greasy.

Where to Buy This Product

Conclusion

I have tried using this product since going natural and it seemed to work well when applied wet and under a gel product.  However, I'm more comfortable with a more natural product.

Let me know how you feel.  Please leave a comment, or your thought on this matter!

I'am glad I ran across this blog,, I thouhgt for the longest it was just my imagination until I'am reading what a few other pink lotion users have said... and yes I agree tha'ts what's wrong with it now...and that is when they changed to the brown cap bottle the formula changed too.. and like my suspcion... it's has much more water added to it.. that's why when I use it it makes my hair dry after a few hours and frizzy,,, years back pink oil is all I used and people always complimented me on my hair... this new formula is not good... none. I'am sorry... it does not work like the pink lotion back in the 80's and 90's.. unfortunately I think pretty much all the makers of various hair oil moisturizer lotions have done the same thing add much more water to their formula, thus for causing more dryness and frizzing of the hair.

I am a white girl with curly frizzy highlighted hair (not tight or kinky curls, but ones that are very prone to frizz) I learned the pink oil moisturizer "secret" when I was living in a REALLY humid island overseas...Hairdressers often comment on how healthy my hair looks. I've tried SO MANY super expensive lotions, potions, creams, pomades etc... people can't believe that I have the best luck with a $10 product for ethnic hair. Thank you to my ethnic sisters :)

I have used Pink for over 20 years now, and have noticed that they have stopped stocking the old original PINK (BLACK CAP bottle) and seamed to of replaced it with a new fragranced PINK (BROWN CAP bottle) and then called this the original IT IS NOT ORIGINAL! you have changed the fragrance and I have noticed this new one makes my hair behave in a different way then the old original one, why try and fix what's not broken??? BRING BACK THE OLD ORIGINAL PINK MOISTURISER WITH BLACK CAP AND WRITING PLEEEEEAAAAASE!!!!!!

Hi , I have bi-racial hair. Its curly and also can be very kinky. Ive bleached my hair and also I have bleached it with hydrogen peroxide I've dyed my hair with kool-aid & my hair is very damaged from heat usage. mostly from unpropper tools. Ive been using pink since I was 5 and made curls look great and long. I stopped using pink when I was 11 and started experimenting with my hair. My hair is now short and damaged. I'm now deciding to fully grow out my hair again and stop bleaching and coloring it. since I am 15teen now I'm going to try using pink again although I don't like the greasy feeling. This prouduct is great for kids and who also is great to get rid of flyaways !

Greetings Morgan,

I'm so glad that you had such a great result with this product. It shows once again that what works for one may not work for someone else. Thanks for stopping by and posting a comment.

I too am white, and recently tried to dye my hair white. My best friend, who is of African decent, had some of this in his bathroom, and desperate to try any product that might help repair my dry, rubbery hair, I tried this. I lathered it on my hair, so that it dried on caked, left it like that for a day, then washed it out and put a more conservative amount on.it was the only product that made a difference.

I am a white girl with dyed blonde hair. I've dyed my hair any and every color and I used to straighten it every day. My hair is just plain dead and frizzy. I bought this today and my hair is so shiny and SO SO SO soft. I love it. It doesn't look greasy or oily AT ALL. I just can't believe how soft it is. This product did what it said it would, and what I wanted it to. I would recommend this to anyone, even white girls.

Legions speaking up on October 26, 2010:

Distributers just can't get it right and will sabotage a good product in mid stream. The original pink lotion had very little water to it, relaxed and natural hair did not kink up from excessive moisture. Now the new classic, fine to medium, hair growing formula is 90 percent water preventing regular styles because the product causes tightness, fly-away hair and why products designed for black hair contain the stench of overwhelming fragance. You can smell it a mile away when you're in public. No one wants to smell like fragranced metal lubricating oil.
