The color geniuses at Pantone have declared Emerald Green as the 2013 color of the year. As exciting as 2012’s color, Tangerine Tango was, I am super excited about Emerald Green because this is a color everyone can wear, and also one that is much easier to live with and gentler on the eyes. Let’s get ready to go green in 2013.
Normally, I would recommend that when incorporating trends into your wardrobe that you stick with inexpensive pieces and accessories and saving the investment dollars for more classic items. This is what I love about the 2013 color of the year. It’s a classic hue of green; one that will withstand the test of time. Therefore, you can confidently purchase investment pieces in this color, such as a wool pea coat, or classic trench coat. You’ll be a fashionable reminder that spring will come again in a bright emerald green coat as you make your way through the dreary days of winter.
Won’t it be fun to welcome spring and you’ll be singing in the rain during April showers in your fashionable green trench coat.

Winter Trends You Can Add Emerald To Now
Inject new life and fun into your wardrobe by forgoing the little black dress for a little green dress.
Emerald green also mixes well with current trends for 2013. Pair it with navy or pink for the Preppy look. Look for an emerald green knitted sweater to add to you dainty floral pieces to rock the current “Granny Chic” trend.
You could also belt that same sweater over a long plaid skirt and complete you look with a shearling vest to incorporate the “Rod and Gun Club look.”
A silk blouse in emerald green paired with a gold brocade skirt will add new opulence to the Baroque trend. Haven’t rocked the Baroque look yet? Try gold foil and black tights with an above the knee black circle or pencil skirt and an emerald silk blouse and you will be right on trend.
Spring and Summer Trends Perfect for Pops of Green
Shiny Happy People
Continuing with the popularity of metallic of winter 2013, spring runways are showing lots of sheen. Look for metallic versions of emerald green or even sequin pieces.
Big bold mixes of graphic prints are in for spring and summer. Look for patterns with splashes of emerald green or use emerald green solids to tone down you large graphic prints.
Spring/Summer runways are showing new modern takes on bomber jackets. Look for exaggerated shoulders, embellishments, and bombers in emerald green, of course.
I Love the 90s!
Well, not me, but the runways do! Did you save your baggy jeans, slip dresses and high-waist trousers from the 90s? Well break them out! Add some emerald green accessories and you are on trend without making a major investment.
Yep. Neon is big in spring. While neon yellow-green is a little much to add with emerald, you could try color blocking with emerald and hot pink. Just be careful not to overdo it. Or go monotone in your clothing ( hot pink or emerald) and use the other as a pop of color in the form of a handbag or shoes.
White is back and crisper and cleaner than ever. Try wearing all white with just a touch of emerald such as a statement necklace, skinny belt, or green platforms. You’ll feel cool, fresh and fashionable all day long.
Designers’ love of vintage continues with a focus on sixty shift dress with short hemline, flower power in the form of bold appliques and over the top prints. Bright colors are part of the sixties experience and lovely emerald green fits right in.
Earn Your Stripes
Stripes of all colors are in this spring and summer. Runways have them in all direction- horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Blue and white are classic, of course, but here’s a perfect opportunity to add some emerald. Try bright emerald stripes this year. And forget that old adage that horizontal stripes make you look bigger. Recent studies have proved the direction on the stripes has no bearing on how you look. Try on lots of different kinds and choose the one you like best and you feel happy in.
Emerald for the Home
There are plenty of opportunities to add emerald to your home for a fresh new look. The easiest way to add emerald green is with paint. You can go small and safe and paint some thrift store finds emerald or change out pillows and accessories to emerald green.
Painting the ceiling, an entryway or hallway is another affordable way to bring this trend into your home. I’m a “go big or go home” kind of gal so I can easily envision a green kitchen. Emerald is such a clean, crisp color. It makes me think of spring, freshness and cleanliness so it seems perfect for a bathroom or kitchen.
Tired of your living room? Paint it emerald! Bright white trim and light fabrics will transform your dull, tired living space into a fresh new room. If you’re not feeling brave enough for full on green in your living room, why not try an accent wall or a big statement piece such as a beautiful emerald green sofa. Already own good sturdy sofa or favorite chair? You could save money and have it reupholstered in emerald. If you are handy with the sewing machine whip up slip covers, new curtains or pillows.
Supporting Cast of Colors
Of course fashion and life wouldn’t be any fun if there was only one color. Other colors that will feature prominently in 2013 are Dark Blue, Tender Shoots, Lemon Zest, Linen, Poppy Red, Grayed Jade, African Violet, Monaco Blue and Nectarine.
Have fun. Be you.
In whatever ways you decide to add emerald green to your life this year, the most important thing to remember is: be yourself. When you are happy, confident and free to express yourself, everyone will be, well, green with envy.
