How to Choose Colored contact lenses

The first part of this hub became quite popular in the comments section. In the past 2 years I have given many people my advice with regard to coloured contact lenses and which colour would suit them and which colour would not. The most amount of problems in choosing fashion or cosmetic contact lenses are faced by those who want to wear contacts for the first time in their lives. I remember the first pair of lenses I got back in 2006. They were a beautiful shade of bright green and till this day remain my favourite pair. Had the green not turned out as beautiful as it did perhaps I would never have continued to wear and experiment with different coloured contact lenses. This hub is intended to help those first timers how to choose the right colour. I will include pictures of real people as well as models to help demonstrate how different colour would or might look when worn.

In my first hub on this topic, How to Choose Coloured contact lenses, I tried to explain how lens colours should be chosen for different types of people with different skin tones. Here I will try to show how different contacts sit on the eyes when worn.

Green Contact lenses

Green contacts are by far my favourite colour when it comes to contacts. There are many different types of green contacts and it really depends on what type of look you want when choosing a shade of green. Green contacts come in green, evergreen, emerald green, gemstone green (which is my favourite type) and many other shades manufactured by different brands. Green eyes look very sexy and gorgeous adding a womanly depth to the eyes. Green contacts worn with just black kohl around the eyes and layers of extra black mascara gives an end result of a show stopper like quality.

Shades of Blue contacts

Blue contacts can give various looks. When wearing dark blue contacts it gives the eyes a subtle change if your natural eye colour is dark brown or black. Such subtle changes look great without giving away what is different about the look. If your natural eye colour is light then dark blue can look quite gorgeous and mysterious. Dark eyes are always associated with sexiness and dark blue will give you just that.

Lighter shades of blue like baby blue will give a very doll like look. If you want a cute and girly look then go for baby blue contacts. If you want to go for a more icy look and add a bit of frost to those warm eyes then go for pale blue contacts. Although I must add that the best way to add frost to the eyes is by wearing misty grey or platinum contacts.

Love the Ocean

If you love the ocean and beach then turquoise is the colour for you. Turquoise contacts tend to look great on almost all skin colours as the colour is neither too dark. Turquoise contacts are the best way to go bright and give a very happy holiday look. This colour is also perfect when wearing anything white as turquoise eyes go hand in hand with white clothes.

Grey and Ash contact lenses

Looking for a foxy look which can at the same time freeze the nation, go for shades of ash like misty grey by freshlook or platinum by baush & Lomb. Such shades are however very difficult to pull off without looking fake. The right amount of eye makeup is necessary to make contacts with icy tones to look good. Tread carefully when wearing colours like this. However, if you just want to shock them all then go for them.

Remember that misty grey and platinum contacts can look like you are wearing white contacts at times.

Honey lenses

Fiery and Warm contacts

Honey is a very warm colour to brighten up the face and yet it has adds a tiger-like look to the face. Honey contacts look both fierce and warm at the same time. They make the eyes look like they are glowing. Honey contacts look great on dark skin as together they create a fantastic look of mischief and fierceness. If you just want to give your black eyes a subtle change then you can try brown contacts or hazel. I would suggest going for hazel lenses rather than brown as brown contacts are a bit too ordinary.

Violet contact lenses when worn

Violet for those pretty eyes

Looking for an innocent look with a bit for coolness? Look no further. Violet is a very girly colour for eyes and it can make a girl look like a pretty doll when wearing contacts of that colour. Violet has cool shades yet it does not give a frosty look.

Lens look way better than glasses but it's best not to wear contact lens for more than 6 hours at a stretch.

With coloured contact lenses it does get confusing which colour to go for. So it is best to stop and consider what type of change you are looking for. That should help you decide.

With your skin colour, turquoise would look good. However, remember that turquoise is a very intense colour..it has both green and blue in it which makes it a bit difficult to carry, blue being a colour which classes justly with Southeast Asian skin tones. I would suggest going for green.
